Re: Found a month old stray kitten and brought it home, now what?

I've just had a look at your art, and that is wonderful as well, you are really talented. Some of it is a bit too cutesy for my liking, but I would imagine would be great in a children's fantasy book, the phoenix/firebird, however, just took my breath away it is beautiful. I don't know if you have c...

Re: Found a month old stray kitten and brought it home, now what?

I can only say how impressed I am with what you have accomplished over the last few weeks. During that time I have been on a roller coaster ride myself with my golden oldie, and had a couple of times when i really wasn't sure she was going to make it. During that period, you have had one of your res...

Re: How to prevent cats coming in garden to bully mine?

It isn't something i have had to do, but i do know that a 6ft fence isn't an obstacle to most young cats. I know there are people on here that have done DIY cat proofing to their gardens so hopefully they can give some advice, but i was wondering if you have considered building just a Catio for your...

Re: How to stop my cat from biting?

I would agree with the others, the first stop is the vets to get him checked out if you haven't already done so. When you say he never leaves the bathroom, i am assuming the door is open so he can get out if he chose to. I am also assuming that all his food, bed and litter tray are in the bathroom w...

Re: Found a month old stray kitten and brought it home, now what?

Looks like they are all doing really well, and they are a credit to the work and love you have put into looking after them all. That photo of her climbing over Casper just made me think of her being surprised to find there is actually a cat under all that fluff. Hopefully she won't get a complex as ...

Re: Recurring Cystitis

I might as well do an update here. Tiggy has been for her follow up examination and all is looking good, we have another bottle of Gabapentin tablets for her, and i'll be buy more Cystophan from Amazon, so she is costing us a fortune, but we have been lucky so far and if it keeps her healthy then it...

Re: When to stop meds

Thanks for the warning about the Gabapentin. Most of the time I can get Tiggy to accept it, the couple of times she managed to avoid it there was a soggy tablet mushed up inthe bowl so I managagd to get that into her not quite the hard way, in a bit of cream cheese smeared inside her mouth. She is h...

Re: When to stop meds

I'm in a very similar spot myself with my golden oldie, Tiggy, also thought to be about 17, although with a rescue cat that i adopted when already an adult it is always hard to tell. Four weeks ago Tiggy gave me a scare she obviously wasn't well, so off to the vets. Luckily it was probably only Cyst...

Re: Cat Dispute

From what I understand, having had a friend who took in a stray cat and then was challenged about it. You have to make a reasonable attempt to find the owner before you can claim it as yours, the problem word a lot of the time is 'reasonable'. However from what you have said you did make a reasonabl...

Re: My cat is not clingy

Never been disappointed in a cat I have had, whether affectionate or not. I was 6 years old when my family got our first cat, and he wasn't particularly affectionate, you could stroke him if he wanted to be stroked, if not he warned you off, and then, if you didn't leave him alone, would strike claw...

Re: Please help

I have to agree with the others, it can be sorted but it might take quite some time to do so. You have already had her vet checked to make sure there isn't a medical reason so that is the first suggestion already ticked off. You have tried new, different litters and they haven't made a difference, s...

Re: How much for a birman kitten

Some of it is no doubt luck and personality, but I'm also sure that some of it comes down to the life they lived before. While a different animal entirely, I have known a couple of stallions who had entirely different views on life. One was what people imagine a stallion to be like, aggressively bol...

Re: Recurring Cystitis

At the moment I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that she gets through this week without a relapse, and then I can see what the vet says next week at her follow up appointment. i guess in a way I would rather buy more expensive products that we will eat as well and so prevent anything going off bef...

Re: Recurring Cystitis

Unfortunately when I have tried any of the cat soups the reaction has been the same, 'what is this muck?' even Saturn only ever grudgingly ate them. The salmon isn't a bad as it sounds it only takes small pieces to hide the Cystophan powder, and as we like it as well it does for lunches for us to an...

Re: Found a month old stray kitten and brought it home, now what?

You have done a wonderful job with looking after her, especially with all the other stress you have been under with your resident cats. I think most of us are under no illusions about what would have happened to her if you hadn't taken her in and she had been left how she was. Your kindness truly ha...

Re: Recurring Cystitis

Just to update this. Tiggy is still with us, but last time it she seemed to start to go down hill again about a week and a half after the antibiotic injection, so we just have to see how things go next week. If she gets through next week then she will need a follow up with the vet the following week...

Re: An old buddy cannot even jump

I can only repeat what fjm has said, there is a lot that can be done. First a vets visit to try and find out why she can't jump, and whether walking is giving her problems. While you are there, if arthritis is diagnosed ask about supplements that might help, there are several available online that m...

Re: How much for a birman kitten

I certainly hadn't planned on taking over this thread when i mentioned I would be looking for one at some point in the future. Up to now we have always just had two cats and normally when we loose one the remaining cat seems to miss them a lot, this time as we currently have the three I know it is a...

Re: How much for a birman kitten

I certainly will when the time comes, i just know that pedigree rescues are rarer, so I'm accepted that if I want a Ragdoll I may have to pay for one, but rescues will be the first stop. However its been over 5 years since we got the juniors and I wasn't sure how much longer Tiggy would be with us t...

Re: How much for a birman kitten

I'm not sure anyone here can give you an answer, many of us have rescue cats instead of pedigrees. However while not a Birman, I have been considering trying to get another Ragdoll, when my old lady finally heads over the bridge (she has given us a few scares and I've checked prices a few times), we...

Re: Just when everything seems fine something terrible happens :( Mila might die

Great news that she has started eating, hopefully it means the medication is working and her throat a little less inflamed and sore. We'll keep all paws and fingers crossed here that this is the start of the end of the stress and illness and they are all on road to recovery.

Re: Just when everything seems fine something terrible happens :( Mila might die

I can't really say about that one, the only one i could find that showed more details ended up to not have those details in English so I couldn't read them. What I can say is that if it removes limescale it is acidic, so you need to make sure you don't get it on your or the cats skin directly, and i...

Re: Just when everything seems fine something terrible happens :( Mila might die

The internet is a scary place, and the real art of using it is sorting out the information given and working out what the really relevant bits are, and which are just giving 'worst case' information. I have the advantage of coming from a medical family even if I'm not medically inclined myself, my F...

Re: Just when everything seems fine something terrible happens :( Mila might die

Its not a bother and I know how stressed you must be, i'm bad enough with one old and ill cat, i can't imagine what you are going through with 2 young ones that aren't well. it is always good to talk, and we are more than happy to listen and offer advice where we can. Re: Just when everything seems fine something terrible happens :( Mila might die

Oh no, at least both are getting treatment and fingers all crossed in hope they pull through quickly. 'Its a virus' does seem to be medical speak for 'they have an infection and we don't know what it is' and as there are very few antiviral medications there is often little point in identifying it as...

Re: Just when everything seems fine something terrible happens :( Mila might die

I'll keep my fingers crossed that it is a temporary thing, and i'll mention that when Blue, the Ragdoll we had before had bad teeth that caused his kidneys to suffer, but even without any special food they did recover, which was shown in the regular blood tests he had for the next 2 years, so it can...

Re: Just when everything seems fine something terrible happens :( Mila might die

This is pure speculation, but it could be possibly that Milla and Caspar picked up a mild infection from the kitten that sent their temperatures higher than normal. Then on top of that you had the heat wave so they couldn't get their body temperature down as it should have done after fighting off th...

Re: Recurring Cystitis

Interestingly the vet tonight said Gabapentin wasn't a steroid, but the one a couple of weeks ago said she was going to give her a steroid as she couldn't have the Metacam. In the if it works i'm happy with that, and the vet tonight did say that the bladder felt relaxed which she seemed to think was...

Might as well just update this, Tiggy has been back to the vets and had another antibiotic shot to see if that will clear things up fully. Re: Recurring Cystitis

I've got some Cystophan capsules on order from Amazon that should be arriving tomorrow, the vet did suggest trying something like Cystease, but when I looked they were on quite a long delivery time, then as she seemed so much better it went out of my mind. I guess ordering them today is a way of try...
