Good Bye and I Hope to See You All Again Elsewhere

I guess the end is almost upon us, so I'll make my Farewells now. I'm going to be over on the Purrs in our Hearts Forum still as Ruth B, but I think it is time for a new avatar picture now that Tiggy is no longer with us, hopefully I will see some of you again over there. This forum has always been ...

Re: Forum change on 18 December

I got the email saying it had been received, but I've heard nothing since.

I'll give it a few days before I try again, i hate having to battle with Captchas, I can't remember if it had an audio option, I know some do but not all seem to offer it yet.

Thank you, I hope you don't have to do this for everyone.

I was prepared to wait assuming they would get around to it when they had time.

Re: In from the cold?

I guess so. I'm not wanting to encourage him in, but I also don't mind him being in when it is so cold and as long as he isn't marking territory or upsetting my other cats. One of the reasons for keeping the camera active was so that I can keep an eye on him and if he needs help work out some way of...

Re: In from the cold?

Yesterday morning I came down started opening up as normal, walked in to the lounge and found someone asleep on the sofa. As I had my IPad in hand I managed to get a quick photo as he woke up before, with a scramble of paws on laminate and a few hisses from my crew who had come down stairs with me, ...

Re: Death of a Healthy Cat

I am so sorry for you, it hurts to loose any pet, but to have it happen in such a way is horrendous. I'm no expert, but there are several things i could think of that might have caused it. It sounds like something was going wrong as he jumped, a serious stroke, heart attack or some form of siezure s...

Re: Blind deaf cat

Thank you so much for accepting the challenge of a Blind and Deaf cat, I'm sure she will bring you great joy once she has settled in. While no expert, i would expect that with no sight or hearing, scent is going to be really important to her. She has obviously already learnt to associate your scent ...

Re: Cancer

A trip to the vets is the best course of action in my mind, even from a basic examination, a vet is likely to be able to tell you if if is cancer or if it might be something else, and you can then make any decisions from there. It could be the vet could do a biopsy easily to know for certain if if w...

Re: Reuse or replace ?

I would say that if there was anything you especially associated with Billy it might be worth replacing that, but in general re using is fine. When Tiggy had to be pts there was one igloo bed that we did throw out, it had been hers and no one elses, I just couldn't bear to see it on the landing when...

Re: Cat breeds

I have to agree, technically she is a Domestic Short Haired Cat, otherwise known as a normal moggy.

Don't let that put you off though, none pedigree cats are often healthier, and are always full of character. Se is also incredibly cute now and will grow into a very beautiful cat.

Re: 6 yo indoor cat urinating outside of litter trays - pls help

First thing I would suggest is a vet check, there may be no noticeable signs of the stones returning, but it could be she can feel it coming back before you can see anything. Urinary infections are also possible which might mean she is in pain when using the litter trays which would also bring back ...

Re: First Time Cat Owner

Vet check is always the first thing to do with any change of behaviour if only to rule out any medical cause. While no expert, from what I have heard, if a cat goes close to the litter tray but not in it it is a sign that there is something about the litter tray they don't like, but if they seem to ...

Re: Please meet Teddy

Blue was definitely not the sharpest knife in the block, he was more of a spoon to be honest. however I'm fairly certain he learnt to use a cat flap as a kitten a he never had to be taught how to use one, he even managed to escape in his first weeks with us. He was kept in the lounge with a bolt on ...

Re: Please meet Teddy

Finally the break through, he has worked out he can use the cat flap by himself to get back in. I had been leaving him outside for longer in hope that he would work it out, instead of just going and sitting under the table when it rained and he had managed it a couple of times, but I wasn't sure if ...

Re: Help! anyone know about TB in cats?

I am so sorry to read this, I have never heard of TB in cats, but I guess it might be possible. Did your vet mention anything about isolating her until the blood tests come back. Even if they didn't I would seriously think about it, and to follow all the advice we had about controlling Covid when th...

Re: For all those who feed strays

I don't feed a stray, but he knows he can normally find something left down here. The black and white still comes in once or twice a night, I catch him on the camera cautiously entering and heading into the kitchen, then perhaps making the most of a catnip sardine that is lying around before leaving...

Re: Cat spooked by workmen

When I had the bathroom redone a couple of years ago, my biggest concern was how Freyja would cope with it. I had it all planned out, the plumbers could use the back door and the cats could be in the lounge with the door shut, as far away as possible from where the work was being done. So litter tra...

Re: Changing Behavior after 12 years..

A full check up and bloods is well worth it, and mention to your vet that her behaviour has changed. I can also think of a few other things that might account for it. As she is getting older is she feeling less confident in her abilities to defend herself. if she desperately wants to check her terri...

Re: Please meet Teddy

It seems hard to believe but we have now had Teddy for almost 6 months, and for the most part things are going really well. Teddy and Saturn quickly accepted each other, and I expected Freyja to take a little longer, which she did. I think it was a mix of her personality and instinct to be wary of a...

Re: In from the cold?

A cat house doesn't need to be anything fancy, a plastic or wooden box for stability and water resistant (cardboard has a habit of soaking up water and collapsing), possibly some insulation board to hold the heat inside and some straw for the bottom (far better than blankets for keeping a cat dry if...

Re: Coco and Chanel dilemma

I can't believe it has been 5 years, time does fly. As for the 'are they happy' question, i would say they are, but I look at it more from a cats point of view than a humans. Cats thrive on routine and familiarity. Coco and Chanel are both in a place they now know well. While they may not be friendl...

Re: In from the cold?

The camera will record and save a 10 minute clip whenever it detect movement, depending on the notification settings it can just send a banner message, make a pinging sound or do nothing. The only problem is that it records whenever it detects any movement, and you miht be surprised by just how much...

I remember last year when you invited him in. As for this year i've a couple of thoughts and suggestions. A single night really ins't the way to introduce cats and to judge their option of each other, but i'm guessing the flat isn't really big enough to do full on introductions, particularly if you ...
