Re: Pallina, hyperthyroid cat. Seeking advice

How's Pallina? Has she had her blood/urine tests yet? Mouse is going next week. The psyllium didn't work out I'm afraid, it was bunging her up, but as it makes a very nice grassy plant I shall be sowing the seed next summer and guess who will enjoy nibbling it? :D Lilith, I think you have missed my...

Re: Vibes for Lucy please

Well, I don't think that a bit of buttercream could have affected her stomach to that extent.
Might I ask you why you think that renal food could be an issue?
How is Lucy today?

Re: Vibes for Lucy please

I am wondering if it is connected to the cake she pinched out of my bag - although she often eats human food that she really shouldn't. How much of that cake and what was in it? Sometimes some ingredients are a real earthquake in pets' stomach and can give a bit of trouble for a few days. Come on, ...

Re: Pallina, hyperthyroid cat. Seeking advice

Some nights ago I was watching a TV program, a long interview to a very famous Italian showman. He's 80+ years old, he was interviewed about his career and life. I was going to turn the TV off, it was midnight, I thought it was a waste of time. I'm glad I didn't. He was asked what the saddest moment...

Re: Pallina, hyperthyroid cat. Seeking advice

Hi Antonio, I've been following Pallina's story as I also had a cat with thryroid problems, among others, so I am missing your updates. I do hope Pallina is progressing well. HI Patricia, Thanks for asking :D Pallina is doing rather fine, she's lively, alert, sometimes playful and loving. She eats ...

Redgold wrote:Thanks so much - this is very helpful. Looking at the description, this may be it. I will discuss with vet. If it’s not caused by a brain tumor, then it doesn’t seem like it’s too serious :).
Well, diabetes is a rather serious condition and may impact heavily on your cat's life quality. And yours.

Re: Young cat drinking excessively, vet says it is behavioral?

Hi, The only times that I witnessed, and questioned my vet about, an excessive drinking related to behaviour or not physical conditions was when I used to take my cat to a cattery when I was away for holidays and they would come back afterwards. The first couple of days at home they would drink way ...

Re: Vibes for Lucy please

She was physically sick, her Ranatidine is given orally, first time I've had to give her two doses in a day. The reason for waiting a week is that is how long her calcium meds last for, she hasn't been sick since sat morning and appetite and behaviour is back to normal. So you see her battered? Is ...

Re: Vibes for Lucy please

Had a bad weekend with Lucy, she was sick at 6.30 am on Sat - she isn't normally sick till the afternoon, so I give her Ranatadine about lunch time to make sure she isn't sick. What do you exactly mean by "she's sick"? Is she feeling belly ache, or nausea, or else? I don't remember, is th...

I guess the vet wanted to rule out CKD as well. Did he run a test called SDMA?

Re: Cat drooling

Hi eliselove1, I second what Janey said, some cats drool when petted. My cat does that, and she didn't do it until a year or so ago, so sometimes they change their habits ;) Have you noticed if she can eat normally? Have you noticed if she loses some little bits of food while eating, especially her ...

Re: Pallina, hyperthyroid cat. Seeking advice

Hi all :) On Sunday I suspended the Cyproheptadine (Periactin), the pills that was scripted by the vet to improve Pallina's appetite following the CT scan, when she had a sore throat for the tube during the anesthesia. I should have given her this pill for 4-5 days, but when I saw she had developed ...

Re: My cats are ragdolls!?

Lucky you if you have a Ragdoll cat from a rescue :D Common cats can behave like ragdolls. One of my cats would do the same things ragdolls do when was held in my arms. She looked like "boneless", soft and relaxed. I also fostered four kittens recently, and one of them, a common tabby cat,...

Re: anyone had any experience with retina detattchment

My sweet cat Lola, now at the Rainbow Bridge, suffered from retina detachment in both her eyes. I realized of that when one night I saw her with her pupils abnormally dilated. Of course it was night and we were home with lights on, but she never had suc dilated pupils, her eyes were nearly completel...

Errm, a little edit - how come the UK is more 'civilised and respectful' than Italy lol? Italy - food! Re: Pallina, hyperthyroid cat. Seeking advice

At the end of the day I decided not to call my vet to tell him what happened at the small practice where he sent me to, neither did I schedule another appointment with him in the next few days. In three weeks time Pallina will have a new thyroid levels check (60 days check), so I thought that in a s...

Re: Feline Dementia Howling - and Dead Fred

My sweet Lola had moments when she looked like she didn't know where she was. It wasn't a constant condition, but in the last year she looked confused. Sometimes I caught her looking at the corner between two walls, or walking around the house without a destination, looking at things as she had neve...

Re: Pallina, hyperthyroid cat. Seeking advice

I would have spoken to a receptionist and asked what was happening before leaving - I often wait for appointments, the vet that has just left was notoriously late, you could often be 20-30 mins late going in. No reception in there. It's a small practice, the vet that does the visit then gives you t...

This morning Pallina had an appointment for a new ultrasound scan and a blood test. The appointment was at 9:30 at a different practice, very close to home. The staff is partly the same of the clinic where I usually go and they have some kind of connection between them. I was there at 9:30, the vet ...

Re: Death advice - not happy reading

This is the reason why when a cat is put to sleep the vets use to curl the poor body of the cat so that it stays in position when the rigor mortis comes in.
I did the same when my sweet Lola died, I'd rather see her in a sleeping position and her eyes closed.

Sorry for your loss! :(

Re: Pallina, hyperthyroid cat. Seeking advice

I have done a quick research on the web and it seems that we have the same cat food here. Unfortunately Pallina has specific needs for her food. Re: Pallina, hyperthyroid cat. Seeking advice

I received two of the three reports I was waiting for in the evening of Friday. The special test with a difficult name was a flow cytometry. The clinic where I took Pallina for the CT scan don't do that, so I had to take the fluid sample to the Veterinary University. The doctor at the university sen...
