Re: Broadline - Flea/worming treatment help

Mine don't go outside but I still treat them, I am just not quite as religious as once a month. I had been using Boradline from the vet for Berlioz but one the second one he had a terrible reaction to it. He was crying and rolling around on the floor trying to scratch where it was so that was the la...

Re: What do do with this naughty boy?

it could actually be worse, believe it or not, because from what you say Misty isn't really scared of him - if she were she would be off the minute he entered the room rather than staying put even when he comes over to her for a head butt it could be she is not so bothered by his behaviour as you a...

Re: What do do with this naughty boy?

Thanks Lillith, I had been using a water bottle but was spraying him in the face (on a fine mist) but after a few squirts it didn't bother him any more! I think I will persevere with this exclusion strategy and try the water bottle on the bum if I need to separate them. When he comes back in he does...

Re: What do do with this naughty boy? - UPDATE

I am getting quite demented. Berlioz's bad behaviour was only escalating and on Thursday he had wee Misty pinned to the floor and was biting her 3 times before 9am. Since yesterday morning I am trying a new tactic of putting him out in the hall every time he makes an aggressive move towards her. I k...

Re: Microchip Feeder - Anyone used one?

Thanks everyone for your replies. I have two cats now, the second one a wee rescue I have only had for a week. They seem to be pretty respectful of each other's feeding spots (after handbags at dawn initially) so am not really bothered about them eating each others so I might get the cheaper version...

Microchip Feeder - Anyone used one?

Hi,

I have been looking at this:

http://www.argos.co.uk/product/5483354

One of my kitty cats will only eat wet food. I like the idea of this sealed unit that will keep the food fresher for longer and keep a lid on the smell. It's a lot of money but I am up for it if it actually works.

Re: Peeing again!!!

Did you replace the diffuser part of the Feliway? It is only good for 3 months I think. Would you believe they only last a month! Very expensive, however I've now found the refills on zooplus for £14.00 each instead of £26.00 from the vets. However, I have now found blood in his pee and little crys...

Re: What do do with this naughty boy?

Thanks Kay, They are both indoor cats. This is not a safe are for them to be outdoors. I dream of being able to move somewhere more rural and they can run free. I try and distract him with a toy if I see him fixing to go after her but it doesn't always work. I keep telling myself she must be happier...

What do do with this naughty boy?

I have my baby boy Berlioz who is almost 1 and really is the apple of my eye. I went to look at cat boarding in July for our October holiday and I met this wee older lady who the owner of the cattery was trying to re-home, her owner having become terribly ill and hospitalised. She was desperately tr...

Tentatively thinking about adding a cat!

I have an 11 month old Maine Coon / Ragdoll cross. I bought him specifically because I was looking for a 'companion' cat for my 11 year old who is on the Autism Spectrum. I always felt guilty about buying but looked for 2 years for a suitable rescue but couldn't find one. Berlioz is just the best, v...

Coughing

Is it normal for a cat to have a wee cough every so often? Once in a while Berlioz has a wee coughing fit. He never produces a hairball, although he is a long hair perpetual groomer so I give him hairball remedy once in a while and he does pass hair out the other way :D Just wondering if the cough s...

Haha :D No he is an indoor cat (should have mentioned that) but I still treat him for fleas and worms, just not as often as an outdoor cat. Just quite a mystery and I would swear it was cooked egg but unless someone posted it through the letterbox during the night I don't know where it came from, lo...

Strange Looking Vomit (warning, might make you feel queasy!)

I woke up this morning to a strange pile of something in the hall. On closer inspection I concluded that it must be vomit. I looked just like the wet cat food Berlioz had eaten just about an hour before I went to bed. It was pretty solid though and did not smell and it had these white pieces in it, ...

Re: I need some advice on a difficult situation as I don't know what to do

These people make me sick. I looked around for almost a year before I bought my hairy baby. When I finally found him I asked the breeder a gazillion questions and and she asked me a gazillion in return. We met each other and Berlioz and hi mammy while he was only 5 weeks or so and only then did we p...

Re: Long Haired Cats in Hot Weather

Thanks all, I think I'll leave the idea of shaving him on the back burner for now. My daughter had been having a water fight in that really warm spell and left a pile of damp clothes lying on the kitchen floor. When I went to get them I found Berlioz lying on them and he stayed there for the best pa...

Long Haired Cats in Hot Weather

Hi again, Berlioz is my first long haired cat and he seems to be struggling in the hot weather. I have bought a fan and a cool pad and I had thought about getting him trimmed. I have only been able to find one place that grooms cats and I made an enquiry with them. She said they don't give cats hair...

Re: Do you think a house cat can be happy?

Do you have a back garden that you could catproof, that would then allow your cat outdoor access but still remain safe. Provided you have a basic knowledge of DIY, a 6ft fence all round, a decent cordless screwdriver and a staple gun it's actually not that difficult to do. Fiddly yes, but not diffi...

Re: Do you think a house cat can be happy?

I live in a modern 3 bed semi myself but compared to some, the rooms are quite generous. He had lots of things to keep him entertained but he has quickly outgrown his wee cat tree so I have ordered a really big one (just under 2 metres high). Not sure where it will go yet, but I will make it work so...

Do you think a house cat can be happy?

My we fur baby is now 5 months old and has just recently been neutered. It was always the plan to keep him as a house cat. Although I live in a quiet cup de sac, there is a very busy road runs along the end of the cup de sac with open railway ground which I imagine would be very attractive to a cat!...

Re: Cat litter

re silica litter, I tried it for a few weeks, and loved it - very lightweight so easy to transport, hides odours well and the least tracking by a mile of any other litter I have used - and the large pieces would be unlikely to stick to fur - bags are £2 in WIlko and B&M, and two lasted 10 days ...

I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but kittens certainly are better contained unless you are there to supervise them. I certainly kept my wee one in a playpen at night and when I went out during the day. Otherwise he was chewing electrical cables and all other sorts of nonsense. Is...

Re: Cat litter

UPDATE I think I must have jinxed myself as just after I posted about the Costco Litter Purrfect my wee Berlioz got a lot of litter stuck to one of his back paws. I can only assume he peed and stepped in it while it was still wet. The litter was stuck to his fur and in-between his pads. He is a Main...

Re: Feeding Issues

Hi. As a Maine Coon owner, I can assure you 3.5 pouches of wet kitten food for a growing Maine Coon kitten is not unusual. They have a lot of growing to do and eat a lot! (They carry on eating a lot when older as well.) Alan, Would you suggest feeding him more if he wants it? Or top him up with som...

Re: Feeding Issues

I did myself wonder if he needed more food because of his breed, but the recommended daily amount goes by their current weight so I would have thought the breed would be irrelevant in that case? I work from home so I am in most of the day and he is always beside me. It's really quite cute. I really ...
