Re: Stray cat with feline coronavirus living with non-coronavirus cats

It's very likely your mistakenly thinking of your established cats as coronavirus free unless they come from screened breeding households, coronavirus is very common and it's likely they've come across it as youngsters from their mothers, other cats in a household or even other kittens in a rescue dep...

Personally I would think very long and hard about putting a shelter anywhere public access or noticeable to other communal residents and their respective visitors ,delivery drivers etc. I would be worried about the attention it may bring to a vulnerable cat living outdoors and all kinds of possibili...

Re: Taking in stray cat with 4 existing cats and limited space

Hi again the size of crate you would need would have to be big enough for a litter tray a bed (which doesn't have to be fancy a cardboard box cut to fit and couple of towels is fine) and a water bowl.Remember as he's already living in the area the cage only need be a nightime arrangement so bring hi...

Re: Taking in stray cat with 4 existing cats and limited space

We have introduced many cats to our own in the past being an ex rescue and we have always used the crate method rather than the separate room.My suggestion would be if you can handle him ok get a large crate and bring him in at night cover the crate with a thick blanket leaving just the front open t...

Re: Spraying in protest!

It sounds to me like a insecure territorial issue ie when he feels the need to check any of his territory for intruders and his access is denied he resorts to spraying to relieve the stress. Is he neutered? Have any intruding cats had access via the cat flap maybe? It could also be effected by a new...

Re: Stray cat

Why do you want to catch him? What are you going to do when you do catch him? Maybe the cat is feral hence his reason for avoiding people and in which case simply helping him out by feeding him may be the best option and the massive trauma of trapping and handling may not be necessary

Re: Unhomable cat - out of ideas :(

It may well not be fear of other cats that is causing the spraying it may just as well be frustration that another can be seen approaching or near their core territory and due to being inside they are unable to exhibit the natural behaviour of challenging any trespassers which a free roaming indoor ...

Re: Chronic Upper Respiratory Infections for almost a year

It's actually quite a common problem in some feral colonies we have dealt with and if it's a long term issue we find it best just to monitor the feeding and only use antibiotics if an effected cat stops eating then a course usually gets them back on track over use of antibiotics are not a good idea ...

I would not hesitate to have the surgery mammary tumours are very risky especially if more than one and what the actual tumour looks like from outside means nothing you can't see inside whether it's spreading to the chest or lungs which is very common

Find it much easier with two people one to hold the cat while the other parts some fur and can keep it parted to apply the spot on sometimes we put it on two separate spots to avoid so much on fur which seems to be wasted but it can take a fair bit of fiddling around to get a good patch of skin expo...
