Re: Turned a corner

When we lose a loved one, whether they be human or furry we do have to get on with living even though it feels like our world has been shaken to it's core. Your lovely Bertie wouldn't have wanted you to put your life and hold and be consumed by grief. I'm glad you feel you have turned a corner. Ther...

Re: 3 months after, it's hit me again.

Issie I read your reply last night but my battery ran out before I could reply. Thank you so much for your reply, it really helped. I know with time it will be easier but I completely underestimated how losing a cat would feel. I've lost my Mum and also a baby in pregnancy and losing Jasper felt suc...

Re: Tips for introducing kitten, no spare room.

Mine is a SureFlap, but it is the larger, Maine Coon size, Pet door version. I don't know whether the smaller versions are the same (although I would have assumed they were). I have told my other half about this, if it has the timer function it will be really useful. Stanley has just turned 5 month...

3 months after, it's hit me again.

We lost Jasper at the end of June. Last Thursday was the 3 month anniversary and I was in tears most of the day. I later put it down to hormones but most of this week I have cried every day. I feel guilt that he was out the front, we didn't know Jasper and his brother Elijah were going on the front....

Re: Tips for introducing kitten, no spare room.

I find that the timer function on the microchip catflap is by far the most useful feature - means I can impose a curfew on Tilly and keep her in at night when I am not around. As Tay was the cat I was trying to keep out (no others come in) the microchip feature is not a lot of use! Ooh I'm not sure...

Re: Tips for introducing kitten, no spare room.

AlanC, I wish we hadn't gone to the expense of buying it. If I go out I have to lock Elijah indoors or outdoors, I'm not usually gone for longer than a couple of hours though.

Re: Will it harm my 1 yr old to be on Kitten food a while longer?

We do leave the dry food out but during the intense heat they have had wet food in smaller portions I am at home most of the day to top them up. I ordered the dry food for kittens, I've just seen Elijah up in the Apple tree so he gets plenty of exercise.

Re: Tips for introducing kitten, no spare room.

Glad things are settling down now. :) Re the microchip feeders: they need 4 "C" batteries. I put Duracell in mine, which was expensive to start with, but I find a set lasts about a year. They have a "training" mode, but my cats got used to them quickly, and the lid keeps flies o...

Re: Will it harm my 1 yr old to be on Kitten food a while longer?

Thanks Lilith, We do have a dilemma about the dry food they are on. There is version for sterilized adult cats which is a lot less fat compared to the kitten and adult variety, I'm thinking if I keep them both on that I don't need to worry so much if the kitten gets some adult food. But then will El...

Re: Will it harm my 1 yr old to be on Kitten food a while longer?

Thanks for replying, we'll get Elijah weighed at vets and ask if he's at risk of obesity. The only problem we have is little Stanley eats Elijah's food as well as his own!

Will it harm my 1 yr old to be on Kitten food a while longer?

Elijah turned a year old this month and is still on Feringa wet food and Purizon dry food. We have adopted a 3 month old kitten so they are both on the same food but Elijah has a pouch of Sainsbury's Delicious recipes adult for supper as a little treat to help him get through the upheaval of having ...

Re: Tips for introducing kitten, no spare room.

Thanks for those links MarySkater, Quick Elijah has accepted Stanley, he comes home more frequently and they chase each other up and down the stairs. We have put beds next to each other on the landing and they sleep next to each other. There were some funny moments last week, Elijah squared up to hi...

Re: Tips for introducing kitten, no spare room.

Thanks for the lovely photo, we have constructed the enclosure using the same playpen you have as a fireguard! They are beautiful cats. Jasper was similar to Rocky. Cats Protection told us not to intervene if they have a fight. Poor Stanley just wants to make friends. He cries a lot a night for his ...

Re: Tips for introducing kitten, no spare room.

Thanks for replying,
I'm sorry to hear your cat was pts, it sounded like she's had a lovely bond with Rocky.
I guess we were expecting too much, hoping to replicate what he had with his brother. I know it's still early days but I don't like the thought of Elijah being upset by the new addition.

Re: Tips for introducing kitten, no spare room.

Elijah came in for food earlier then he was straight back outside. He strolled up to his brother's grave and sat on the slab for a moment. It was very sad to watch.

Re: Tips for introducing kitten, no spare room.

We brought Stanley home Sunday afternoon. When he first saw Elijah he was meowing expectantly but Elijah was scared. Elijah hissed and growled at first and kept out of the way. Yesterday we let Elijah wander in to Stanley's 'enclosure' he sniffed Stanley's bowls but didn't seem interested in getting...

Re: should our cat see his deseased brother at the vets

I am so sorry for your loss. We lost Jasper 4 weeks ago to a road accident and he had been adopted with his brother. We let Elijah sniff his brother before we buried him. I think it helped him as he often sits on his grave now. I know exactly how you feel, I am still heartbroken for our loss and als...

Re: Tips for introducing kitten, no spare room.

That's wonderful to hear! We'll be very mindful to not allow Elijah to feel upstaged, well have to move his feeding bowls out of the fenced off zone but hopefully he will be eager to play with the newcomer who does seem very playful. His 2 littermates were adopted quickly because they were tabby so ...

Tips for introducing kitten, no spare room.

We already have a year old cat who recently lost his brother. They had an amazing bond so we want to adopt a companion for him whilst he is still young. We don't have a spare room, utility or conservatory. When we initially adopted the pair my other half fenced off part of the kitchen diner using a ...

Re: Adopted kittens had cat flu...

Thanks so much for the replies, I will look into pet sitters. I do have a brother nearby but he has a cat of his own so not sure if his cat would be at risk if he came into contact with our cat’s feeding bowls, I’m probably being paranoid though! There are a few catteries local to us so I can start ...

Adopted kittens had cat flu...

We recently adopted two 16 week old brothers who had cat flu when they were tiny. Apart from corneal damage they are fine. Because we fell in love with them quickly and although we knew that they would be carriers we didn’t think about them not being able to go into catteries when we take our summer...
