15-mth old rescue away from the house most of the time now

In November we got a 6-mth old rescue. He was very nervous at first, but seemed to bond with all of us over the following 6 months and seemed content - an occasional lap-cat, but eager for fusses, affectionate in his own way, and every night he'd be curled up either between me and my wife on the bed...

Re: Will he change behaviour? He's still pretty nervous...

Thanks both. For reference, that wasn't my suggestion - my initial thoughts were as yours (and there does seem to be a bond between them). That idea of splitting them up was volunteered by the rescue centre, based on what has happened with the other (even more timid) sister, who was adopted (shortly...

Will he change behaviour? He's still pretty nervous...

So, off the back of my previous post, we trusted the rescue centre volunteer and adopted the two kittens. ...except they're not really settling, and certainly aren't the 'confident' cats they were described as, 3 weeks on. (Got them vaccinated at the start of the week - vet said they weren't confide...

Re: Am I expecting too much? Please help...

...and that I guess is the other question with these last two...the fosterer herself said they don't really play, and she's having to teach them how. Seems odd, but if they've been in a house with several older cats and older owners, then they've probably not been shown. Hopefully that's all it is.....

Am I expecting too much? Please help...

After some advice and some more idea of what 'normal is', please...tying myself in knots trying to make the right decision... :( We're looking at adopting a bonded pair of rescue (young) cats or kittens into the family. Key criteria (aside from being cute, per my kids, and healthy) is that the cats ...

Re: Struggling with local rescue centres

Thanks both. Molly...my wife and I have been having similar conversations regarding a young cat or older kitten. That to us makes most sense, but more difficult to find a bonded pair once they've left their litter. With all the conflicting criteria I'm beginning to feel like Yossarian! ;) Laujo...hm...

Re: Struggling with local rescue centres

I wish I could be confident of that Molly, but I'm starting to give up. Over the last few weeks, my wife and I have spotted several pairs or litters (kittens and young cats) advertised on social media or rescue centre websites...most of them we've spotted and responded to within a day of them being ...

Struggling with local rescue centres

We're looking for a pair of young cats / kittens to adopt into our family home, and have decided to go down the rescue route rather than go to a breeder, as it feels like the right and responsible thing to do...however... - We can't get through to our closest branch of a very-well-known national cha...

Re: Need advice - cerebellar hypoplasia / wobbly cat

Ahhh...I think I misread the webpage I googled...reading that page it suggests it develops in-utero but caused by an external influence on the mum, not genetics.

Thank you...that reassures.

Need advice - cerebellar hypoplasia / wobbly cat

Hi all, We've started looking for a pair of young cats or kittens to adopt into the family, and have been offered a pair of 14-week kittens currently at a fosterer. They seem well-socialised, confident and friendly. They also seem a little underweight, which we've been told is due to them not eating...

Re: Cat leaving random small nuggets of poo

Well, that's that. The (very nice) chap at the cattery has looked after him for the last week since we got back from hols, whilst also enquiring about possible (good) new homes. Yesterday morning I called him and said we couldn't have our cat back, so could he re-home him, please? Really wish ...

Re: Cat leaving random small nuggets of poo

Quick update - He's been on Fibor (looks like diced twigs) for about 4 weeks now, and it does seem to have helped. - I've been religious with his litter tray, but since the weather's improved he's not used it much. - We've been trying all we can to minimise his anxiety. ...and we went about 2 weeks ...

Re: Cat leaving random small nuggets of poo

Quick update...went to the vets this morning... - he was almost completely dismissive of the T-gondii risk to my wife, which isn't especially helpful to me/us. - he wants to 'start' with the medical possibilities (considering behavioural after eliminating everything else), and we've got a fibre supp...

Re: Cat leaving random small nuggets of poo

Thanks all for the replies, especially the detail from fjm and Lilith, and sorry for not getting back sooner...we've been floored with cold/flu most of the week. Frequency had dropped off this week...right up to today, when our lad found a pellet (on the windowsill) the hard way. So I'm now taking t...

Cat leaving random small nuggets of poo

We got a rescue cat about 18 months ago - 12mth old late-neutered tom (now 2.5yrs). Aside from being very noisy/demanding, he's a lovely, affectionate, handsome cat. But he has intermittently (and now it's up to nearly once a day) dropped small (raisin-sized) nuggets of poo around the house. His toi...
