House move - cat having problems with neighbourhood cats

Hello. I moved to a new house a month ago and my 12 year old neutered Tom is starting to explore his new neighbourhood. He is quite a relaxed and friendly boy who enjoys being outdoors normally and will tolerate (and even make friends with) other cats if they don't bother him. The first couple of ti...

Re: Cat toys and activities

It's so funny to hear that there's a common theme, Bungle absolutely loves little strippy bits of plastic, e.g. wired ribbon, the bit from round the top of a bottle of milk etc, I wonder what the attraction is? Thanks so much for your recommendations, there's a couple of ideas there I intend to purs...

Cat toys and activities

Hello I was wondering what sort of toys etc your cats like to play with. Our boys outdoor activities have decreased in recent months and he has gained a couple of pounds, I'm trying to provide things to keep him active whilst at the same time not overwhelming him. He does that typical cat thing of &...

Re: Worried about my cat

Hello. I don't think I can offer any advice that others haven't already given, but I agree that a sudden change in behaviour is always cause for a vets visit. Are there any changes to her routine or environment that you can think of, no matter how small? Our boy had a bit of a behavioral episode a w...

Re: my cat is being bullied by neighbourhood cats

Thanks everyone. I never thought about spreading his litter, I might give that a try. Just a bit of an update, the bossy female that's been leading the assault started to approach him the other day. He left the house under my watch, she immediately clocked him and started her way toeards him, he jus...

Re: Walking a cat advice and views

I don't think it's cruel at all, in fact you've given me an idea on how to let my cat enjoy being outdoors more and prevent him being bullied by the neighbourhood cats. We all know that cats are very good at making their feelings known, and if your cat didn't like it I don't think you would have man...

Re: Opinions on introducing a new cat

Hello and thanks everyone, that does help a lot. I think you've cemented a concern that I had in the back of my mind, and I would much rather make sure it's the right thing to do than risk upsetting him. He hasn't had any bladder problems for a couple of months and if it was stress related, a new ca...

Opinions on introducing a new cat

Hello I'm just looking for opinions on the pros and cons of introducing a new cat, and the best way to do it. My 9 year old male tabby is a very friendly, tolerant, laid back guy. He was a lone cat till the age of 3 when we rescued him, then he lived with me and my partner and my partners cat, a fem...

Re: Sudden change in behaviour. Help please

Aww, your poor man, certainly sounds like he's been through an ordeal. Is it possible that he's still experiencing some pain? Maybe ask the vet for some pain relief to try out and see if it makes a difference. It could also be that his recent illness has affected his position within the cat hierachy...

Re: wet food v dry food and opinions on brands

Just a note that the chicken wings most definitely have to be raw - as we all know, cooked chicken bones are dangerous! Ah, that's very good to know, thankyou! We do have a serious problem with him attempting to steal from plates - we rescued him as a young cat from a girl who was not caring for him...

Re: my cat is being bullied by neighbourhood cats

Thankyou, its something we have given some thought to. Our back garden is quite large and surrounded by a very tall fence, and the only route of access is through the house as it backs on to other gardens, but we have never seen another cat on the fence or indeed in the garden, I think the fence is ...

Re: wet food v dry food and opinions on brands

That's fantastic, thanks everyone. I'm giving him Felix in the morning and purina one (the UK version) for the rest of the day, with the odd treat thrown in here and there. It seems that a combination of wet and dry is best, and I'm interested to read about the occasional chicken wing, I'm going to ...

wet food v dry food and opinions on brands

Hello My second post this evening, but since I've just found the site I'll get all my cat questions out there! My cat was on a regular diet of wet food in the morning, and dry food for the rest of the day (one or two servings). He had some bladder problems lately and the vet suggested we stop the dr...

my cat is being bullied by neighbourhood cats

Hello I've just signed up for the forum this evening after stumbling across it whilst searching the Internet for some advice. My 8 year old neutered tom is being bullied by other cats in the area. We moved here a few months ago, and he has always been very keen on being outdoors. Theres a house a co...
