Re: Catflap finally fitted!

Yeah they seem to be really good with their customers. I got the new parts today so they came incredibly quickly! They've sent me a "Mark 5 Thumb-Proof Front Frame" which includes a little cover for the grey catch so they can't mess with it - looks like it'll do the trick :) They've also s...

Haha thanks guys :) Sorry for being quiet - work picked up a bit so it's been manic recently. All the better that I got the flap when I did haha! I hope Henry learns how to use the flap soon meriad - 2 years haha!! Maybe he's just being selective on purpose ;) They can be such tricky individuals, li...

Catflap finally fitted!

Well.. Clive is 7 years old and Harvey is 5 and neither cat has ever had access to the outside via a catflap! I've always lived in rented so I've never been able to fit one so their access has always been restricted. I bought a house last July and intended to fit a flap then but I got a kitten, Bail...

Haha glad you got him sorted Heather! I knew chips migrated but I didn't think it was that common for chips to fail or completely disappear but it seems like it is :)
Hopefully now he can get on with using his nice new catflap :D

Re: HORRIBLE CATS!!!!!!

They can be pretty grim at times... this time of year is always a bad one for baby bird massacres! :( Harvey earned the nickname "egg slayer" as he doesn't even wait for them to hatch! He just tips out nests of eggs and carries the eggs in his mouth. The big conifers are an easy target for...

Re: Pet Porte or Surflap?

Sureflap do a flap called the DualScan which allows you to totally dictate which cats can go out and which can't. Their standard flap does just let all cats out though. The Sureflap has a battery warning light on it so you should catch it long before they run out. I'm not sure about the Pet Porte an...

Re: Cat mate flap problems

Heather, if you don't have any luck then it'd be worth taking your cat up to the vets to have the microchip scanned (it's usually free, just call and ask). When I got my flap I had the same issue with Clive. I took him up to the vets for a check and his chip had either failed or somehow come out as ...

Graham - I've got a 7 month old nutty kitten and I combine the Ssscat I mentioned above with earplugs at night as I can't cope without my sleep. Works a charm. Get your wife some earplugs haha.

Re: he locks himself outside and i feel awful! poor idiot :(

If he's proven he knows how to use it then it could be that he's a little bit slow (my cat Clive is really thick bless him, especially when it comes to cat flaps) or it could also be that he just plain doesn't like it and knows that you'll eventually take pity on him and let him in. My parents have ...

Oh Sally I'm so sorry to hear about Dizzy :( My 5 year old cat Harvey had a major heart scare last September and I learned an awful lot about heart kitties in that time. It turned out in our case, after a few months of fearing the worst, that Harvey's main issue was actually Asthma but he does also ...

Bailey isn't afraid of dogs..

Hey everyone :) I've been AWOL recently as I've been a bit busy as of late but for those of you who remember, I adopted a kitten (Bailey) back in December. He's now almost 7 months old, vaccinated, neutered and chipped. He hasn't had any exposure to the outside world up until now as I was worried ab...

Re: Excessive drooling - is it an emergency?

Hey Suze, good luck and let us know how you get on! My cat Harvey did this once and it turned out he'd licked up some cleaning fluid. The vet gave him the all clear and thankfully it wasn't enough to do him any serious harm but his tongue blistered a little and he drooled for about 48 hours. Everyth...

You're not being over protective at all; my kitten is just coming up to 5 months and he's already getting really interested in the outside as my other two are always coming and going. I have no intentions of letting him out until he's a good bit bigger and has been neutered but I know at some point ...

Re: Warning, poisonings in Norwich

Oh those poor cats :( That's just awful. I would like to say though, there's no evidence it's deliberate... it could be something like a garage with a poisonous substance left in the open accidentally. That doesn't make it any easier for the owners who've lost their little ones but I'd prefer not to...

Re: Boris has an irregular heartbeat...

Hey Cathy, 24 breaths/min sounds about normal, that's around what I'd expect for a healthy resting rate and it's around where Harvey sits with his :) At rest is definitely the right time to count his breaths as this is when you'll get an accurate result. Poor Boris, sounds like his thyroid has given...

Oh poor Boris! I hope everything is OK for him, sounds like he's been in the wars a bit. His normal breathing rate is around 24 breaths per minute but in an older cat I should imagine th...

Re: Eyes Glowing Different Colors

Yeah if his eyes always reflect differently no matter what angle you look at him then you do need to pop him along to the vet and have his eyes checked as it could be a sign of a problem. They should both appear the same when you shine a torch at them in the dark, although obviously that does depend...

I'd just like to second that.. I used the Pride Veterinary Centre when I lived in Derby. They're part of the Scarsdale group who are very large and very, very good. Re: the gannets!!

Go steady with the dried food as it contains around 4x more fat than wet food generally. The result is that it's much easier for cats to get overweight from being overfed on dried food than it is from being overfed on wet food. Your 6 month old will likely be super hungry just because she's growing ...

Re: Are they just playing?

Awww they're so cute! I wouldn't worry too much about the play getting rougher - the bigger Kevin gets (and the more demanding) the rougher they'll play. Bailey leaps all over my adult cat Clive and follows him around stalking him - Clive gets pretty pee'd off with him (understandably) and will even...
