Re: Do cats get bored of certain foods?

So been to the supermarket and intentionally bought smaller pack sizes so I could get a variety of flavours. So now she has a mix of meat and fish flavours in both wet and dry food. Hopefully this will work. I believe the current thinking is that a cat's constant desire for variety comes from when t...

Re: Do cats get bored of certain foods?

I even once accidentally left a roasted chicken on the side all night, and in the morning it had not been touched. WOW! If I did that with Frankie or Alfie would have eaten the entire thing and be sleeping it off for the next week. Katie and Sophie would have licked it and eaten enough of it that I...

Re: Do cats get bored of certain foods?

Thanks, this is what I suspected. It’s just a new experience for me as all my previous cats were more like goats with their eating habits. I had to be so careful as to what they were trying to eat. Whereas Maisie, will sit next to a plate of my food and not touch it.

Do cats get bored of certain foods?

I’ve been having a slight challenge with the regimes cat I got earlier this year. I buy her some food, she starts off loving it then about 2-3 weeks later isn’t interested in it and sits there waiting for me to change it. I’m sure there is no medical reason because if I put something different down ...

Re: Traumatised cat

I think the fright of Friday has put back the progress she had made over the previous five weeks :(. Though she is still settling on my lap, she now very jumpy and hides at the slightest thing. She’s far more nervous. I’m trying to give her the space she needs but feel sad I’ve broken her trust. She...

Re: Traumatised cat

Thanks. I tried turning the carrier on it’s end and loaded her from the top and success I got her in this time. Vet also suggested if that stops working, put the carrier on the edge of a table it work surface and front load her that way. Either way their paws aren’t down. I’m going to try putting th...

Re: Traumatised cat

Thanks, I could try putting the carrier in my bedroom or the living room. It’s the rooms she seems most relaxed in and gradually move it to the kitchen which is actually where she spends the most time. Plus far too many places to hide to try and get her into a carrier in the bedroom or living room. ...

Traumatised cat

Hi, I could really do with some advice. Five weeks ago I adopted a 3.5 year rehomed cat. As far as I know, she was never abused, just circumstances meant she needed to be rehomed. Unfortunately those circumstances meant, this is her fourth home in 7 months. She is a sweet natured lap cat. But when I...

Re: Cat howling and pawing at door during the night

So I tried letting her sleep with me. Did not go well at all. I mean, she was happy until things started going wrong. First she jumped on me just as I was dozing off. Unfortunately she landed right on my privates. Neither of us appreciated that. After that fright, she settled in a position that was ...

Re: Cat howling and pawing at door during the night

Thanks everyone. A cat flap might be an option. I’d have to get permission (I don’t own the property, my parents do) but they might agree if I agree to replace the doors back to standard ones if I ever move out. But it will take a while to convince them. Weirdly, she’s quiet tonight, not sure why. B...

Cat howling and pawing at door during the night

A bit of background. On Saturday I got a rehomed cat. Seven months ago, her original owner died and she’s been at multiple temporary arrangements since then, including about four weeks of being left in her original owners house and someone popping in to feed her. I am well aware that she will take a...

Re: Help me name my new cat

Thanks for the replies everyone. I do like the name Suzie but my mum is called Sue and she has specifically told me the cat can’t have her name :(. I had originally had the name in my list of options. But Freya is good. That would cause my voice to go up naturally at the end. And I agree, I couldn’t...

That is a good name as well.

Re: Help me name my new cat

Aww, bonny lass! Names are so subjective. I like Lucy, Annie and Molly (I've had an Annie and currently have a Molly.) I also have a soft spot for Emily (recently there was an Emily here - my avatar cat still) and once I named a cat Tess because when I first met her she had a bellyful of shameful l...

Help me name my new cat

I’ve just taken on a 3.5 year old female beauty for a friend (due to circumstances). She has the name Fury already but it’s not a good name her. She is so sweet natured. Plus I like my cats to have proper human names. I like ones where the sound naturally goes up at the end of the name. Previous cat...

Ooh thanks for the link. That sounds pretty straight forward to do.

And pleased to hear your mum’s cat was unharmed. I’m hoping with proper preparation I can avoid it altogether.

Electric recliners and cats

Hi, I’m looking for advice on electric recliners and cats. I know that electric recliner sofas and cats are a potential hazard to cats. I have just bought an electric recliner sofa and will be getting a cat pretty soon. I have very specific reasons for choosing the electric recliner so a non recline...

I am shocked at what is being described.

Could contacting the Cats Protection help? I don’t know if they can put pressure on the RSPCA on your behalf. But they possibly have inside contacts.

Re: Rehomed cat advice

Thanks for the tip about unneutered cats looking thin. I wouldn’t have known that. Goes to show that even though neutering is important, it does affect the health of the cat. A cat called Mouse? I’m guessing that nickname started because the cat was timid? My previous cats were Katie, Sophie, Franki...

Re: Rehomed cat advice

I’ve never heard the term dilute tortie before. I’ve seen the cream and blue, just didn’t know the term (the dilute bit). Both the classic tortie and the dilute one are beautiful colourings. I do think it’s good she’s used to being handled. As for me, being able to pick a cat up is really important....

Re: Rehomed cat advice

She has clear eyes, an open and alert face and doesn't seem to mind being pick up. That's all good! Oh, and she is also very pretty. :D I am pleased she does appear to be a healthy cat. From the full photo, you can see my mate isn’t quite holding her fully (not used to handling cats) and she still ...

Re: Rehomed cat advice

Thank you very much for everyone’s advice. It’s definitely true I had been thinking of a kitten. I had even been using language such as ‘kitten shopping’ to describe my excitement at finding the perfect kitten. I told my mum earlier and she helped me realise I felt pressured into saying yes (part of...

Rehomed cat advice

Hi, I’m new to the forum and need some advice about a cat I will be getting. The background: I have owned cats before. I’ve had two sets of two from kittens each time. The first two were rescue kittens (second ones weren’t rescues), however I was very young so don’t remember the specifics of how to ...
