Re: FIV cat incurable stomatitis - any advice?

I'm sorry to hear this, the only other thing I've heard for gum issues is interferon directly applied to the gums (fairly sure it is injection) - surprised they have gone down the steroid route, it is one of the worst things for gum issues. One of our local rescues has a cat who has just gone to se...

FIV cat incurable stomatitis - any advice?

Hi there, Just wondered if anyone here had any experience with this. In January I adopted a cat who soon became ill and turned out to be FIV positive and a coronavirus carrier. The rescue centre didn't test for these viruses. Since May it's been a continual series of trips to the vet as he has been ...

Re: Cat suddenly scared of house

Yes I do think that’s probably what happened - he may well have been stung or got bitten. Unfortunately we have had lots of flies and bees coming in from the garden at the moment. I managed to get him in tonight with a bit of a struggle and a few minor scratches to show for it but I feel much better...

Re: Cat suddenly scared of house

Unfortunately we live in a terraced house and we have patio doors out onto the garden so there aren't any other windows or doors he can come through. He doesn't go around the front of the house (which is usually a good thing as we live on a fairly busy road) and at the moment he just doesn't want to...

Cat suddenly scared of house

Hi everyone, I'm hoping for some advice about my rescue cat, Rocky, who I adopted six months ago. He is a super friendly 4 year old former stray who settled in really well but he has had a rough month. His partner in crime who we adopted at the same time sadly passed away a month ago - she was very ...

Re: FIV+ and coronavirus

Thank you. We are now constantly on the look out for any signs of illness especially given what happened with our other cat. Unfortunately we’ve had to take him to the vet three times in the last couple of weeks for mouth pain - LPGS - and he has just had two teeth removed (he already had two remove...

Re: FIV+ and coronavirus

Unfortunately I don’t think my vet has been terribly clear about the tests and what they reveal - I really had to push him to clarify whether or not the test actually confirmed FIP or just exposure to coronavirus after I’d done my own homework. No, he wasn’t neutered before he went to the rescue :( ...

Re: FIV+ and coronavirus

I think you may be right, perhaps we shouldn’t rely too heavily on the one test. He’d been in the shelter for about 7-8 weeks going by his vaccination record. His companion was brought in later so she’d only been there for a few weeks but I think she would have found the experience more stressful. S...

Re: FIV+ and coronavirus

Hi booktigger, Thanks for your reply. I'm really sorry to hear you lost a cat to FIP. I will be keeping my boy as an only cat - I wouldn't want to risk another cat being infected. He was very unsettled at first since losing his companion but thankfully seems to have settled a bit now and we're givin...

Re: FIV+ and coronavirus

Hello Kay, Thank you for your reply. I’m very sorry to hear about your experience with Boycie but I’m pleased to hear Trigger stayed well. I have read that coronavirus doesn’t necessarily mean FIP is inevitable. Although I’m worried about whether the fact that Rocky (our boy) is also FIV positive wo...

Re: FIV+ and coronavirus

Hi Lil, Thank you so much for your kind words. Unfortunately I think I was quite naive as a first time adopter and perhaps a little too trusting that the two of them had both been given a thorough health check. I can’t regret adopting them as they both deserved a good home and at least I know Ruby (...

FIV+ and coronavirus

Hi there, I adopted two lovely cats (former strays) from a local shelter In January - both were health checked and vaccinated (but not tested for viruses) by the shelter before we took them home. They had runny eyes when we collected them but the shelter told us it was probably just a cold or blocke...
