Re: Injured Cat - Your opinion sort

*** UPDATE *** He has now seen the Vet. It turns out he has a small puncture to the right shoulder (maybe through fighting). Its infected, he's running a temperature and there's now some swelling. He was given Convenia (anti biotic) that should hold him for 2 weeks and some Metacam which he needs t...

Injured Cat - Your opinion sort

Bob (the cat) came in last Saturday morning limping, his front right leg seemed to have an injury. I examined his paw for foreign objects, nothing found, I gently felt his entire leg and joints again nothing found and no blood, Bob didn't seem to mind the examination and showed no sign of pain or di...

Re: Flee and Worm treatment

Thanks for your replies, my cat loves the outside and catches mice and the odd bird on a daily basis. From time to time he will eat what he catches. Your comment on supermarket meds, can you elaborate, what's wrong with them? I was hoping just to buy on line without prescription.

Flea and Worm treatment

I'm currently signed up to one of these health plans operated by my local vet. It's due for renewal in the new year, but I'm reluctant to do so. So I'm looking for an alternative, can anyone suggest another way of giving the cat his flea and worm treatment, that works. Is there a good 'off the shelf...

Medivet - Health Plan - Buyer Beware

I went to Medivet’s local surgery a few weeks ago to enquire about their Health Plan for my cat. I was given a sheet of paper outlining what they were offering and what the cat would get and the price per month of £13.50. It all looked fine. Last week I went back and signed up, paid the first month ...

Re: At the end of my patients

Thanks for all the good suggestions. I have tried putting the spring water juice from a tin of tuna on his dinner in the past, that sometimes works. I'll give the dry on top of the wet next. Good news, he has eaten the tin stuff so I'll keep him on those for a few days then try the pouches again.

Re: At the end of my patients

OK the starving option is out, thanks for the info in that. I brought a few Whiskas tins months ago that I've been holding back just in case I ran out of the pouches. I gave him a quarter of a tin this morning and he cleared the bowl. I'll give hin some more later and see what happens. I have over 1...

At the end of my patients

Now I know cat can be/are fussy eaters, but I don't know what to do with him next. He's 18 months, been with me about a year. I've been feeding him Whiskas dry as Felix double delicious meat in jelly. He's been fine with that until a few months ago he would not eat the Chicken one (I now have about ...

Re: Eating Mice

Thanks for the replies everyone. He gets his worming stuff from the vets every 3 months, so I hope that's enough. He also has a collar with a bell, it's cut down the bird kills, but not the mice. If I tried to keep him in later in the mornings much past dawn he would drive me mad. I would have to go...

Re: Eating Mice

Thanks everyone for the great replies. I'm feeding him on 2 pouches a day of Felix double delicious with some Whiskas dry, so I think that's complete plus as I said he gets the odd treat from time to time such a bit of tuna and small amounts of cheese. Yesterday he had his diner, demolished 90% of i...

Eating Mice

My cat is catching up to 3 mice a day, he brings most in to the garden, some make it as far as the house. He has just started eating the smaller ones. Is he just being a cat or am I not feeding him enough. His weight is 5 Kg which is constant, he has 2 100g pouches a day plus 50g of dry and the odd ...

Pet Health Clubs

Not to be confused by pet insurance. - All the local vets are now charging around £163 a year for the annual vaccination, 4 lots of flee and worm drops and a 6 month check up. Is there a better option? Maybe buying the flee and worm stuff on-line which seems a lot cheaper and just having the vet do ...

Normal or Coincident

Among the various toys my cat has is a ping pong ball, we pass it back and forth together from time to time. The other day I noticed it wasn't where it normally is so I started looking for it. I couldn't find it anywhere. I said to the cat "Find the ball" after a couple of second he got up...

Re: good cat food

Like most, I buy cat food from the supermarket with the weekly shop. I've been feeding mine with Felix double delicious, he's fine with that except he won't touch the beef ones. In an attempt to save passing these on, this week I've given him Whiskas poultry range. He will not eat any of them. I'll ...

Re: Collar

Having tried other collars with no success, either the catch comes undone when he scratches or they just seem to irritate him I took Marla up on her kind offer of a collar from Kittycollars. He's been wearing it for nearly 2 weeks now and it's never unintentionally come undone, it doesn't seem to ir...

Re: Collar

Thanks for the quick reply, everything you suggest I've done. I even went to a pet shop yesterday and tried various safety releases they all seemed about the same. I've tried various degrees of tightness of the collar, but he still gets out of it. I don't think he likes a collar, maybe I'll just hav...

Collar

I want to put a collar on my cat with a name tag. I brought a safety release buckle collar, but he's worked out if he gets his back leg under it he can break the release, is it OK to put him in a non safety release collar?

GPS or RF Tracking

My cat went missing yesterday, normally he's only out for 2 to 3 hours at a time, but yesterday he was gone for 16 hours he got home at 4am covered in dirty engine oil. Anyway it got me thinking what about a tracker. I've spent hours on the net this morning trying to sort one out, just when I though...

Re: Cat litter smells

When I originally posted I had only had the cat for a few days, he was a rescue cat and being new to being owned by a cat I didn't know what to expect. Now I have been feeding him with mainly Felix pouches and a small amount of dry he's not too bad in the smelly department. So I think it was just hi...

Thanks everyone for the info, it seems I need an additional 3 sleeves at around £9 a go, its getting expensive. Re: Cat Flap

Many thanks both. I had a look in 'Pets At Home' today and saw the Cat Mate flap, it looks and feels so much better than the Staywell, They only had the chip version so I'll need to buy the 4 way on line. I'm going to fit it to an outside wall (2 rows of brick plus a caverty about 190mm) Do you know...

Can anyone recommend a cat flap to fit in a wall that won't self destruct in days. It just needs to be a simple manual 4 way. I've read some of the reviews on certain makes and they seem to be made of paper, total rubbish. Thanks.
