Re: Treats for cat with kidney disease
It all started around 17 months ago. He started weeing in the house and I noticed some weight loss. Scan showed shrunken left kidney and right one marginally better, both lumpy I think in appearance. Was on Hills kd but swapped him to purina renal which I blend as the fussy little man won't eat it o...

Re: Treats for cat with kidney disease
The vets have never mentioned anything about stages, though I have seen it mentioned on various sites.
Maybe I should ask?

Treats for cat with kidney disease
Hi
Can anyone recommend any treats that are suitable for a cat with kidney disease. I have bought the Beapher kidney support, they seem expensive for a small packet and of course you have to buy them online.
Any suggestions...
Thank you

Re: recipe for cat gravy?
Mine does the same. Expensive renal food. I've discovered that if I blend it, he will lap it up. Bit of a faff but fingers crossed it generally works. Worth trying.

Cat with kidney disease
Hi, sorry not been on here for a little while. Harry has been on purina renal food for a good few months. I have to blend the food to get him to eat it. He's also having mirtazapine every 3-4days to help with appetite which is up and down. Was thinking of trying ipakitine and adding this to normal c...

Wet food success
I have had a right battle with Harry recently with regard to loss of appetite. He is on renal food. He is now on mirtazapine every 3 days to help with his appetite. Side effect is that he is very vocal for a few hours after administering it. I have now found out that he will eat wet food, I just hav...

Re: Purina renal food
Well Harry had blood, urine and BP tests yesterday initial results for urea, creatinine and phosphorus have improved since January. Still awaiting further results. Trouble is he's losing weight and not eating very much. Will eat treats and a bit of chicken. Tempted to give him normal wet cat food.

Re: Cat with kidney disease
I found an article online yesterday, it had a table of us and uk foods listing nutritional content, calories etc. I will try to find it again and post a link.

Re: Purina renal food
Vet has not told me what stage, but one kidney is lumpy and small and the other is affected as well so assume pretty serious. Repeating blood tests on Tuesday so will ask then. He seems happy enough but it's sometimes a battle to get him to eat. He has a daily antacid and also kaminox. He's about 7 ...

Purina renal food
Has anyone tried the canned version of this food? Reason I ask is that Harry is very fussy with wet food. He will eat mousse style food if mashed up. I have figured out how to get him to eat the pouches, blitz them with a stick blender until they are like a thick milkshake and he laps it up. Honestl...

Re: Cat with kidney disease
Well I am trying Harry with purina renal diet. Seems to like it. Mixed it with the hills kd dried and he ate all of it and left the hills! Fussy cats eh? Also got a box of the pouches to try. Licked all the gravy off, glad to see there is plenty of gravy with these, better than the Hills. May try hi...

Re: Cat with kidney disease
Thanks. He has appointment for a anabolic steroid injection tomorrow. Hoping this may encourage him to eat. It annoys me that you have to spend a fortune on a 1.5kg bag of food. Wish the manufacturers did sample bags. I have to try to get potassium supplement into him somehow, tuna water usually wor...

Cat with kidney disease
Any advice on cat with kidney disease. Harry keeps losing his appetite. Won't eat wet food or will just lick the gravy off it. I have read somewhere about feeding a senior diet, obviously will check it out with the vet. Has anyone else tried this?

Re: Kidney disease newly diagnosed
Hi Heart murmur has had scan in August and basically keep an eye on him. Suggested repeat scan in 9 mths so they have something to compare it against. Steroid was to help with his appetite. He seems to like the k/d dry so far. He was on ordinary science plan anyway. He's not a fan of wet food tends ...

Kidney disease newly diagnosed
Hi. My little kittie Harry has recently been diagnosed with kidney disease. I took him to the vets as he was intermittently peeing at the front door. Had urine tested, very dilute and blood showed as well. He's lost weight too. Only aged around 6. Tests done and scan today. Left kidney shrunken and ...

Re: Best way to give your cat a tablet?
I'm glad it's just not me that has this problem. My previous cat was a nightmare to tablet and spot on flea treatment was nearly as bad. So far I've managed to give my new cat his worming tablet in with a few felix treats and he's just eaten them. You could have knocked me down with a feather when h...

Re: Dried food.... Won't eat wet..
I've tried the cat soups. Very hit and miss and quite expensive for what they are. He won't touch any of the meat or fish that's in them. He's a funny little chap but I love him whatever.

Re: Dried food.... Won't eat wet..
Thanks.
I figure if I buy a decent quality food that he likes and he is drinking enough water then he should be okay.

Dried food.... Won't eat wet..
Hi I'm a newbie to this forum and forums in general. I've had my present cat since September, he's a rescue from RSPCA. He came to me eating both wet and dried food, but now will only grudgingly lick the gravy off some food. Vet seemed to think okay to just give him dried food, presently on Science ...
