Re: Recent diagnosis of diabetes

Yes, my boy Edgar, aged now at maybe around 10/11 (ex feral so approximate), was diagnosed in September 2014. He was part of a study at the RVC for a year was which useful as he was trialled on glargine rather than staying on caninsulin. He is still on twice a day. He didn't like staying in the vet ...

Re: Going cold turkey on dry food?

Oh, thank you so much for the last replies. Our vet gives away samples of Burns and I used to grab them up, but stopped doing so after I realised that brown rice is not good. How terrible about the IAMS experiments. I don't buy it, but would never even consider it now. Ria has suggested we try Arden...

Re: Going cold turkey on dry food?

What super replies everyone! Thank you so much! It's great to see that many of you folk, for whom I have great respect, are not as violently opposed to dry food as I expected! I have read some practically abusive articles about it recently and I was horrified to find that my new little girl, who whe...

Re: Going cold turkey on dry food?

Thanks both. Neither of your replies surprise me! Fortunately, Bella does drink well - not excessively, so no worries there - so she is well hydrated, and the dry food is good quality - we're on Bozita at the moment. I have read so much about dry food being inherently bad for cats though, particular...

Going cold turkey on dry food?

Hi, has anyone attempted withdrawing all dry food from a multi-cat, allowed to graze, household? Our new little girl so favours it over wet food, even raw food, that I would like to change her preferences sooner rather than later, but with three other cats, 2 of whom like to graze on good quality dr...

Your gorgeous girl will be fine. The time will pass much more slowly for you than for her. We have cat sitters when we go away and no one bears a grudge when we get back - they are always happy to see mummy and daddy.

Please forgive my going off-topic, but I just wanted to say that it's been nice to see some old faces here and to give them a wave.
Yes, it's nice that we can all return for a while to share Mark's grief. We all loved Kylie and hoped for a different outcome. xx

Dear Mark, Beautiful, feisty, dearly loved Kylie - such a totally gorgeous girl. You did everything for your baby girl, and are the best kitty daddy in the world, bar none. There are lots of warnings about it at our vet which is right by Wimbledon Common so a vulnerable spot. That's great about Trent, Jill.

Re: Feline Leukimia diagnosis - what is best now?

Hello, I don't want to give false hope, but I agree with Booktigger - wait for further clarification. My Pepsi was given a quick diagnosis of Lymphoma two years ago on the basis of an in house test at the emergency vet when she was struggling to pick up after a dental operation. I was in floods of t...

Re: For anyone that buys Lidl premium Coshida pouches

Edgar absolutely loves it and since it is sugar and cereal free he can have it a couple of times a week. if he is really happy with his menu, then he is less likely to raid Pepsi's Gourmet pates and Lou's AGAIL. Ideally he should only eat the really ultra low carb, premium high meat content foods su...

Re: Animal Friends insurance

What??!! Is your vet getting a kick back from Animal Friends? Not very good for customer relations with YOU who I think should be far more important than being jobsworth over an insurance claim. Maybe some people out there know what the deal is between vets and insurers.

Hello Anna We're all still thinking of you. As the other girls have said here, adopting again would truly honor your love for the gorgeous Binky. Re: My hiding cat

Hi Jill, as others are saying here, it sounds as if Mittens needs plenty of special mummy time with you to make up for the competition around the house. Half an hour a day with the boy on his own perhaps? And as Crewella says, giving him private time with the door closed when he seems stressed. With...

Cussypat is right - initially our vet was really wild eyed and scary and told us exactly what to do and it was just not going to be possible. When I said to him later, in tears, that he had been really scary about it, he softened and said he always started off like that to give the worst case scenar...

Re: Diabetes advice

Hi Hollie Caninsulin in the default feline insulin. Glargine is one being trialled by the RVC but has been rolled out elsewhere. it is more expensive, but potentially has better outcomes. I know - the ideal is of diabetic cats to have a very strict feeding regimen. Because Edgar had some very low re...

Hi Gill Ah, your little girl. It's quite a shock when they are diagnosed, isn't it. My boy Edgar, who is around 9 (possibly - ex stray), was diagnosed 14 months ago and is now pretty stable on 2 units of Glargine twice a day. He is absolutely cool with his injections and both you and Pumpkin will be...

Re: My cat has hard fur on his back along his spine

From the picture they look like matts, but maybe this is too obvious? Are they like lumps of hard fur? If he goes outside perhaps he got himself tangled up in some undergrowth. If so, they can be combed out with patience, or if he is resistant to that (ouch!) he can have them shaved out by the vet. ...
