Re: FIV cat incurable stomatitis - any advice?
Speak to your vet about Interferon, it can be injected into the gums (by the vet) or given orally.

What about trying a low dose of Piriton (must be Piriton and not other antihistamines)? Check with your vet but I think they can have 1/4 tablet up to 3 times a day.

Re: Microchip Feeder - Anyone used one?
I had a multicat household with one of the three being in renal failure, I wanted him to have constant access to food but keep one of the others out, worked really well and he quickly picked it up. He was deaf so not bothered by the sound of it opening. You can also buy a clip on plastic cover that ...

I've just paid £493 for a dental and she only has her canines and peg teeth left - removed 2 canines and scaled and polished the remaining, they should do blood tests first for the older cats.

Re: Human Epilepsy and Cats
I had a cat with epilepsy, his seizures would more often than not be at the same time as yours. I woke one night to what I thought was banging on my bedroom room (I live alone, it freaked me out), got up and one of my other cats was outside my door, I then heard Tig having a seizure in the other roo...

Re: Kidney disease and food
Among signs for nausea are lip licking, showing interest in food but sniffing and then walking away and sitting in the meatloaf position (you know with all four legs tucked under), these were the most noticeable signs with Tig.

Re: Kidney disease and food
Again senior food is better than nothing. Have you spoken to the vet about phosphate binders? That might help her numbers if all she will eat is "normal" food. Is she feeling nauseous? That can really affect their appetite, getting this under control really helped buy Tig a few more months...

Re: Kidney disease and food
Nice to see you back, sorry to hear about Millie. Have your tried Purina NF pouches? I'm not sure of the ingredients but might be worth a try. When dealing with this problem with Tig, I found Fortiflora sprinkled on renal food sometimes worked, it's highly palatable (supposedly but you know cats hav...

Re: cat with kidney problems
I let Tig go on Saturday, I knew he was in decline and had a long think about his quality of life, he hadn't had a good day in over a week, was starting to become constipated on top of everything else and just seemed to be existing rather than living, lip licking despite anti nausea meds and sitting...

Re: Cat recently diagnosed with CRF. Values are Ok, but he seems super lethargic
I've found CRF is real roller coaster, good days, bad days, up and down - if you haven't found it already there's a great website http://www.felinecrf.org/ which is full of useful information on what to expect and treatments. They also have a really good forum with some very experienced folks on it.

I'd be surprised if they couldn't do the op, normally when kidney disease is present they would put the cat on fluids, pre, during and post op. I would also ask if the infection could be skewing his kidney results? It's really not good to leave an infected tooth in place that in itself can lead to f...

Re: cat with kidney problems
I have a cat in renal failure, like Beryl he won't eat the wet food. I tried mixing it in with his normal food but as I as start cutting back the normal food he won't eat it. Have you tried things like warming it up? Crushing a couple of her favourite treats are sprinkling it on top of it? TBH he's ...

I moved house recently with three cats, two settled relatively quickly but th...

Which of the cat flu viruses does he have? L-lysine will work for the Herpes virus but probably not for Calici, there's not a great deal you can do other than manage any secondary infections and keep his life as stress free as possible.

Re: Kidney Disease with chronic inflammatory cystitis
Have they tested the urine to determine the type of bacteria she has? This will narrow down where the infection is coming from (bladder or higher up in the kidneys) and determine whether they're using the right antibiotic. I have a cat with polycystic kidney disease (I assume ultrasound has ruled th...

Re: Older cat cries all the time.
Has she been checked out by a vet as I think some health conditions can cause howling.. Have you tried putting a jumper or something that smells of you where she likes to sleep, perhaps if she has your scent it might keep her content at night. I have a deaf cat and he can be very loud too, he also s...

You could take the tuna water from one can, water it down by adding more water to it and freeze it in a ice cube tray..

Re: Make cat food smell more appetising?
You could try warming it up, a few seconds in the microwave or adding some warm water to it. The vets sell something called Bisolvon which is a powder you add to food to help break down the mucus making it easier for them to breath, might be worth speaking to your vet about that. I used it for a lon...

Re: Indoor cats and open windows
I've got the flat-cats screens on my upstairs windows and they work perfectly for me plus they're not too expensive (and they keep bugs out). I'm in a rented house so can't permanently attach anything to the window frames, with the flat-cats you can just peel off the velcro stuff.

I have made this awful decision and I could just tell Hector had had enough, there was no fight left in him and he was just hiding away. Kidney failure is a real roller coaster, fine one day and seemingly at deaths door the next. I also have a cat with PKD and he's now in renal failure, we're not at...

I've had Pip coming up 11 years and she still sings to me every morning from outside the bedroom door, she's also taught Noodle to join in too, I always ignore her (wear ear plugs) but it hasn't made the slightest difference, she'll just keep going until I get up, at this time of year that can be fo...
