Re: My Tiggee was sprayed in the face by a skunk!

Thank you for the information. Tiggee is starting to get back to his old self but he smells terrible and his breath smells just like a skunk. I still cuddle closely with him as I do not want him to think there is a problem but I now have the same breath smell! Here is a photo from our trail cam that...

Re: My Tiggee was sprayed in the face by a skunk!

Thank you. It is very frustrating as Artee is very scared to go in the trap. Twice he had half his body in the trap and then jumped out. It is the largest live trap available and we have nice smelling chicken at the back and a trail of tid bits leading up to it. But we always get our kittee! We soci...

Re: My Tiggee was sprayed in the face by a skunk!

Yes - our other 2 cats ( also rescues from a few years ago) who were also in the yard at the time knew to jump up on the chairs but our Tiggee is pure love and thinks the best of all animals. So he ran towards the skunk who was also very afraid. I chased the skunk around the yard until he ran out th...

My Tiggee was sprayed in the face by a skunk!

Yesterday a skunk sneaked into our enclosed backyard where we let our cats play. Our Tiggee was sprayed in the face by the skunk. He initially foamed at the mouth and could not open his eyes. We washed and washed his face with water and put lots of water in his eyes. Today he is doing better but his...

Re: Our Tiggee was just diagnosed with a serious upper respiratory infection

Thank you and thanks papa cat for the link - it was very helpful. Tiggee is doing a little better but he doesn't want to drink at all. I think it is because his nose is all stuffed up so he does not recognize the water as safe. I got some chicken broth (no salt) and heated it on a saucer and he did ...

Re: Our Tiggee was just diagnosed with a serious upper respiratory infection

Tiggee is doing a little better today but he still has problems swallowing water and food. It is like he has a bad sore throat. We did get some food and water in him using a syringe. He seems brighter and more active but sounds terrible. We have a vapourizer running for him and got some cat soup but...

Re: Our Tiggee was just diagnosed with a serious upper respiratory infection

Thank you Papa Cat, Molly Cat and fjm for your help. We all had a tough second night with our Tiggee. ( I will post a photo of my cuddle bug later). His breathing is so verylaboured. WE got some fluids in him with a syringe. We can tell he wants to eat and drink but his nose is so stuffed that he se...

Re: Our Tiggee was just diagnosed with a serious upper respiratory infection

Thank you so much Ruth for your helpful reply. We just got Tiggee back from the vet but they did not test him for the cause of the infection. It was a real madhouse at the vet as Ontario is closed down and this vet is the only one open for a hundred miles though no one can go in with their pet. Our ...

Our Tiggee was just diagnosed with a serious upper respiratory infection

Our wonderful orange tabby boy Tiggee was just diagnosed with a severe upper respiratory infection. He has been deteriorating for several days but because of Covid restrictions our vet could only see him now. Tiggee was severely dehydrated and was given IV fluids and antibiotics and was sent home. H...

Re: My Cat Tiggee keeps sneezing

Thanks for your reply. He seems a little better this morning so we cancelled a trip to the vet because it is so stressful for him. The vet will phone us later today and we will discuss it. One of our other little cats is now showing similar symptoms so maybe it is a cold as you say. Take care.

My Cat Tiggee keeps sneezing

My 10 year orange tabby boy Tiggee has been sneezing for the past 2 days. There is some mild discharge from one nostril. He seems to sneeze more when he is picked up. Is this a problem? Thank you.

IRIS Melanosis?

Our 10 year old little calico girl Gabbee has recently been diagnosed with iris melanosis ( see attached photo of the little darling). The vet says this can be very serious and she needs to see a specialist (opthamologist) and may need her eye removed (heaven forbid). Does anyone have any experience...

Re: Christopher Brodie stole our hearts..

Hello Issi - Goobbee is the name we gave to one our rescue cats and he certainly lives up to that name. We live on a hobby farm in central Ontario Canada. "Hobby" means we do not farm - we let Nature recover the land. Nine years ago we lost our beloved dog to bladder cancer. Her loss destr...

Re: Christopher Brodie stole our hearts..

I am very touched by your beautiful stories. Few people want to rescue older cats but they have so much to offer all of us, especially as we ourselves move into our senior years. There are many cat books out there but I have never seen one "In Praise of Senior Cat Rescue". It would be grea...

Re: My Cats Driving Me NUTS!!

If you have a covered patio you might try setting up a large dog pen just outside your door where you can place your cat outside but safe. We have a double Great Dane pen on our covered patio for one of our cats that likes the outdoors. The pen is 8 ft long, 4 ft wide and 4 ft high. We put up steps ...

Do female stray cays get along?

We recently rescued a beautiful female cat from our forest. We named her Allee. She is less than one year old now. She had three lovely kittens in the forest that we also rescued and have now placed in wonderful forever homes. We also have our own 3 rescue cats that are now 7, 8, 9 years old. Two ar...

Re: How to bring our stray cat out of her shell?

Yes, if you read my post from Wed, having reared babies will have made her survival instincts stronger and harder to break, plus the fact she hasn’t been neutered, so still has extra hormones. She may indeed view you negatively as you trapped them all and took away her babies. I would definitely le...

Re: How to bring our stray cat out of her shell?

That is a good point, Allee has had a lot to contend with in 5 weeks and carrying her round is forcing her to do things on your terms rather than hers, which will be made worse by the fact that she isn’t comfortable being in a house yet, and could be having an effect on her cowering around people, ...

Re: How to bring our stray cat out of her shell?

I agree that docility can be a sign of fear. Certainly what you describe when you put her down (ie going “floppy”) is very much a fear reaction. We had a Siamese when I was young who was terrified of thunder, and she would go like a limp rag, incapable of much movement, till it was over And yet All...

Re: How to bring our stray cat out of her shell?

I agree that 5 weeks is VERY early days for a feral cat to adjust, even such a young one. She has probably had little or no experience of humans and has a lot to learn. She only feels relaxed enough to play when you’ve all gone to bed. Is there any reason you don’t let her have free run of the hous...

Re: How to bring our stray cat out of her shell?

Maybe her soul is with the outdoors? Or perhaps I've read too much James Herriot :) The rescuers we got our previous cats from had rescued a huge cat colony, too many too all rehome. They ended up neutering all then rereleasing many, just feeding them, providing outdoor shelter and keeping an eye o...

How to bring our stray cat out of her shell?

Last August we noticed a new stray cat in our forest. We set up trail cameras to watch her at night. By Sept. she was pregnant so we fed her in the forest until Nov. while she nursed her babies. When the weather got cold she brought her 3 babies into our hay shed where we live-trapped them. Our vet ...

Post Acute Pancreatitis Problems

Our very handsome 8-year old rescue boy Goobbee had an acute pancreatitis attack this past Monday night. Prior to that he never had a health problem. We got him to the vet near us first thing Tuesday. After blood work, x-rays, ultrasounds they diagnosed acute pancreatitis and placed him on IV fluids...
