Purrs has been very inactive for quite a while, so admin may only check in infrequently - hopefully a mass migration from here will bring it to life again

Re: Reuse or replace ?

I wouldn't hesitate to use what you already have - after all, rescues accept loads of used stuff. And I've always found comfort in leaving cat trees and beds where they are when I've lost their owners, in recogniton that another cat will use them in due course, because I'm a cat lover, and need a ca...

I think we can all sympathize totally with you - many of us have walked in your shoes the sad fact is that us animal lovers are bound to outlive many pets if we live long enough, but the pain of losing them never cancels out the joy of sharing their short lives I promise you you will be more torture...

Re: 6 yo indoor cat urinating outside of litter trays - pls help

once you are at the stage of considering rehoming - and that could be difficult given her problem - it might be worth considering alternative drastic measures to see if you can get this sorted I think I would try confining her to one smallish room with a single litter tray, to see if she uses it - i...

Re: Stray cat with feline coronavirus living with non-coronavirus cats

I lost a cat to F.I.P and was concerned about my other cat, who had been in very close contact with him and had all the symptoms of the coronavirus. I was advised by the Bristol Veterinary College, to whom Boycie had been referred, that the main trigger for F.I.P in a coronavirus positve cat is stre...

I don't believe in an after life, but I still feel the presence of my rainbow cats in my house and garden. It hurts a lot to feel a presence which is not there any longer in the early days of loss, but it becomes a source of comfort and even pleasure eventually to be able to picture him in a favouri...

I'm glad to hear you have made practical arrangements for your Sassy - it's no more than she deserves, of course, and doing your best for her will give you some comfort, I hope and please don't think of having another cat in terms of replacing her - you have a good home to offer a cat who needs one,...

Re: For all those who feed strays

I'm not sentimental as a rule but that touched me. I still grieve for the fact that I only got to touch my two garden cats, as I thought of them, was when they were too frail to run away and I had to put them in a carrier so their lives could be ended peacefully.

Re: A Loss I Can't Cope With

There is no short cut to moving on from such a loss, and I so understand how the end plays over and over in a most distressing looop. The only way I have found to bring some relief is to make a scrapbook of those happier times, with photographs and writing about special memories. Sassy's life needs ...

Re: Taking in stray cat with 4 existing cats and limited space

Having fed a couple of homeless cats myself for many years, I have a couple of questions - is this boy neutered? If not it would be wise to get that done, and give his hormones a couple of weeks to settle before moving him in secondly, you don't mention whether you are providing him with shelter at ...

Re: How many sofas have your cats ruined?

Throwing in my twopenny's worth, I have found that most of my cats have preferred stropping on wood rather than the sisal covered poles - a large cat tree I have had on the patio for years has 4 untouched sisal poles and two bare wooden ones that are half their original thickness.

I've never been able to persuade 14 year old Penny in the 3 years she's been with me that wet cat food is not poison, and that goes for cooked and raw human meat and fish too - but she does really like a Felix soup each evening, and even deigns to swallow a few of the bits in it and she's easily the...

Re: Outdoor cat yearly boosters

I used to pay extra for a home visit for yearly vaccinations, when I had a cat who got into a dreadful state when put in a carrier not every vet will do this, but in my rural area vets are out and about visiting farms all the time, so a home visit is no big deal the vet used to sit on the bed where ...

my 17 year old Tiffany had a failing heart, and eventually was full of fluid - it was drained off and for 48 hours she was fine, but then it all came back, so I knew it was the end for her, before her other organs started to fail - the vet came out to her and she went very peacefully managing the en...

I've found Bozita goes down well with older cats with dodgy digestions - the cartons contain a lot of jelly, and soft easily swallowed meaty pieces

just a thought as I assume the vet has had a good look, but just in case, do any of her claws curl round to stick in her paw pad? and an even more unlikely cause, but one that I have come across, do you use a litter with pieces big enough to get stuck in the pad?

it's cheap enough and easy to dispose of outside

Is a far infra-red wall panel an option for both of you? I think it's fairly common knowledge that yearly boosters aren't really needed, but if you are likely to need to use a cattery then it's probable they would insist on annual vaccs
