Re: New adoption

Maybe get another cat? It may sound like a lot but if they get along, they'll keep each other company. Three years ago I adopted a 7 month old kitten who is very active. I had two older kittens over 10 and they did not play or were affectionate with the kitten. The kitten loves to cry for attention....

7 month old kitten swollen lymph node, maybe?

My 7th month old kitten suddenly has this huge bump below his ear, but right above his neck and it isn't on his jaw. I'm assuming it is a swollen lymph node. It's hard but doesn't hurt him when I touch it. He's eating and sleeping a lot more than usually. It only appeared just this afternoon. I know...

Re: medical tests for newly adopted kitten

Thank you Ruth B and Mollycat. I'm in the US! I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing and being responsible. I found a non-profit that did all the tests the vet I went to wanting to charge me over $500 for under $100 and with good reviews. I feel so stupid and upset that I didn't think ab...

medical tests for newly adopted kitten

I recently adopted a 3 month old kitten from a shelter. He has URI, fleas, and an ear infection. I knew all this when I got him. This is my second cat from a shelter. My two-year-old came from another shelter and only had ringworm. I was so surprised on the terrible conditions of the shelters. Appar...

Re: Hyperthyroidism and swollen belly

So sorry for this tough news Mangocat. It's a time that always comes too soon, whether our furry friends are 5 or 25 years old, and it's always feels so sudden even after years of managing a condition. I know it's not much comfort that a cat's natural life is more like 12 years, so the 15+ we have ...

Re: Hyperthyroidism and swollen belly

I had this problem just over a year ago, though without the HT complication my 17 year old Tiffany had a very swollen belly although she was very bony - she could hardly get through the catflap, which is what made me take her to the vet, where a load of fluid was drawn off - because she had had a h...

Re: Hyperthyroidism and swollen belly

Went to the vet today. They took an x-ray and drew out the fluid which was over 7lbs worth. They think it's lynphaic fluid which could be cancer. The vet wants to do more blood work which I declined at the moment because the drawing out fluid plus getting his shots was really traumatizing to him. Th...

Re: 18yr old cat with Kidney Disease

My cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and I also believe he has kidney issues but he hasn't been tested yet because the vet still wants to stable his thyroid. My cat use to cry all the time for food but then when I fed him his regular canned wet food, he'd just take a few bites and then leave. I...

Hyperthyroidism and swollen belly

My 15 year cat has lost so much weight in the past two years because of thyroid issues. He use to whine constantly for food and water but after I started giving him medicine from the vet and feeding him low phosphorus wet food, he's hasn't come begging me for food and water. In the last week I notic...

Re: Fast breathing in kitten

If it's just the heat and he's fine otherwise, then keep your place cool. I adopted a 7 month old cat and he was like that. He was so excited when I brought him home and played a lot. Too much playing and he started heavy breathing. Also had him wrapped in a blanket taking him to the vet because my ...
