Pet Loc8tor woes

So some people may have seen a thread a while back where I was being all mother hen and panicky over letting my boys out post-moving house, but equally they were driving me bananas being shut in! Well we made it to two weeks, and they were then set free much to their delight. Other than occasional s...

Re: Letting out after moving house

Yeah I'd definitely intend to go out with them to start with - at breakfast time and then try to encourage them back in for breakfast, although their excitement at being allowed out has been known to overpower their desire for food! (They're not big eaters in the morning at the best of times) But I'...

Re: Letting out after moving house

When I initially got them from a rescue centre as young cats I kept them in for about 3-4 weeks as I recall, but it was too early in the sense that one of them who was quite timid hadn't properly bonded with me yet and wasn't keen to come back indoors when he was called. He spent 36 hours off on a f...

Letting out after moving house

I've recently moved house with my two not-quite-2-year-old neutered boy cats, who are currently on house arrest for a settling in period. They aren't thrilled about not being allowed outside - usually I keep them in overnight but they're straight out after breakfast even when it's raining, and aside...

Re: Cat flap hacking

Well the other one (Monty) hasn't figured it out yet certainly - the week my friends were cat sitting and putting the flap on entry only when they visited in the evening, they kept finding just a sulky Monty in the house in the morning! Two cats worth of food was going so Rolo was seemingly doing hi...

Re: Cat flap hacking

Thanks both for the replies - interesting things to think about! I tried emailing Sure Flap about how the locking mechanism works to see if the chip lock would impact on the lifting-inwards, and they sent me this reply: "Our standard cat flap also has a four-way manual locking system, however, ...

Cat flap hacking

I have two young rescue boys, adopted this summer. They've adapted to going outside well and love it - I lock the cat flap at night but they spend most of the day outside unless the weather is bad. I tend to stick a box in front of the locked flap at bedtime so they know it's shut, but sometimes hav...

Re: New cats refusing to come back indoors

Monty still wasn't back when I got home from work, rattled bowls and Dreamies packets outside but nothing stirred. I was pretty much ready to just cry with frustration. In the end I decided to let Rolo out again, since they tend to be bravest when together and Monty often follows his lead as he's a ...

Re: New cats refusing to come back indoors

They've been getting fed wet food (and sometimes raw meat e.g. chicken wings and such since I'm testing them on that sort of food too) when I get up and when I get back from work, then just before bed, and the food bowl clicking together has been the clearest sign of breakfast and dinner which gets ...

Re: New cats refusing to come back indoors

Hi meriad, thanks for replying. Yeah that's it - I'm not sure whether the inquisitive exploration and getting too caught up in nosing about everywhere to bother coming back for meals is just going to have to happen sometime, so keeping them in longer won't really help, or if another couple of weeks ...

New cats refusing to come back indoors

I recently adopted two all-black boy cats - Monty & Rolo. I've had them just over three weeks now, they're around 10/11 months old and lived at the adoption place since they were kittens so other than the courtyard garden they had there 'outside' is a bit of a foreign concept to them. They seeme...
