Re: Cat gender identification

The second photo certainly seems to show what is sometimes called the 'lipstick', that is the penis, making me think it's a male.

Re: Coco and Chanel dilemma

You mention sitting in a dark room and it made me wonder if you've tried playing with a laser pen, to see how either of them react? It's fun without any human contact, and the 'spot' would be more effective in the dark than in normal lighting. My Ragdoll, Tilly, in my avatar, loves to chase and poun...

Re: House move

A friend had a slightly different idea to let her cat enjoy the garden - instead of tying the rope to a tree she tied it to her washing line, which ran the length of her garden, giving the cat plenty of room to play. It all depends on the size and layout of the garden.

Re: Time for a new start...

Me too! I tried various local charities, looking for just one black cat, having had a white one which shed white fur very liberally on my mostly dark coloured trousers, and everything else. No black cats to be found and after some persuasion I ended up with a pair of long haired, light coloured Ragd...

I've not been in Asda recently, but I have seen mattress protectors there at very reasonable prices, probably available online if you're not near a branch - worth a look. I seem to remember someone on here recommending them from Asda, too. I hope you can soon resolve the situation and get Inky to us...

Re: Letting out for the first time

Yes, Ruth, when I took on my two Ragdolls, aged 5 and 6, and always kept indoors, I'd read that they'd no sense of danger and weren't streetwise. After a time my vet advised me to try letting them out and they really love being in the garden, mine or next door's, but don't roam, thankfully, and cert...

Good luck with them. I hope they will learn to live together amicably, even if never best friends.

I agree that Butchers Classic is both cheap and decent quality, but if you have some left don't waste it or let it go off - empty it out into a poly bag and freeze it for another day. That's what I do and it works well. I'm not sure about the quality of it, but as cheap occasional 'treat' mine love ...

Re: loss of fur

My two Ragdolls had worn collars for years before they came to me and their fur soon grew back, so you'd never guess that they'd collars on. Similarly, years earlier when I took collars off two moggies their fur soon grew back, so I think you can be optimistic for Pennypuss.

Re: Cat howling and pawing at door during the night

When I had two cats which didn't get on well together I used to keep one in my bedroom at night, with the door closed to avoid possible fights, and kept a litter tray in the room (and an aerosol spray handy in case of 'fragrance' from it!) That worked well, but I'd done it from one being a kitten. A...

Reminds me of a friend's fridge magnet 'If you want to find the warmest place in the house, look for the cat' - how true! I used to visit a friend who was in cat rescue, and often had about 20 cats living in the modest 3 bed house. She'd invite me in and say 'Sit down'. I'd look round thinking 'Yes ...

Re: Neighbours Cat - What to Do !!

If you can get hold of a big polystyrene box from a butcher or fishmonger you could cut a piece out for an entrance, use the lid as the floor, with an old towel or similar to lie on, to provide shelter for Paul. I'd put a brick or stone on top to prevent it being blown about by the wind, and place i...

I've no experience of urinary problems/diet, but I wonder where you're buying the Royal Canin? Looking on the Zooplus website, which many of use, to feed a mix of wet and dry RC urinary food would cost about £1 a day for a medium size cat, only about 33p if you keep to dry only (£5.55 per kilo buyin...

Re: Cat suddenly scared of house

I've never heard of anything like this. You obviously need to be able to get him into the house by some means. Is there really no other door which you can open for him? How would you escape in an emergency? If not, could you open a ground floor window wide enough to 'post' him through or where there...

Good to hear that you'll soon have Mia home with you. Before trying her on a lead in the garden I suggest you consider the type of garden you have. I once tried a cat on a longish lead in my back garden - he loved it, and soon ran around various bushes and shrubs, getting the lead wonderfully tangle...

Re: Obsessive carpet pulling following loss of litter mate

Just a couple of suggestions to consider - you say that the carpet scratching is mostly in corners, so perhaps you could put down wide, double sided sticky tape, if you can keep it away from the area you step on. Cats hate the feel of it under their paws. I've used it in various areas with great suc...

I'd try adding a layer of fresh litter on top of the original litter, so that it smells fresh to her. When I've taken anything out of the trays here I always sprinkle some more on, hoping to make it smell more appealing.

Lilith - Lucky cats! And you can smile at the price - yours works out at £3.46 for 12 x 85g cans, but it's £5.25 for the same at Sainsburys. I looked up the Canagan, recommended on here, but it's £13.99 for 12 x 75g cans. It would cost more to feed one cat on that than I spend on a healthy diet for ...
