Re: Boris has an irregular heartbeat...

Hello Team Boris is back from meeting with Mike Holgate (top Cat cardiac specialist in Cheshire). He's confirmed he does have a gallop rhythm but otherwise Boris is in 'superb condition for his age'. As this is the only symptom and his heartrate is fine (174 BPM) no scan or treatment was deemed nece...

Re: Boris has an irregular heartbeat...

Thanks all! I'm beginning to wonder if he's been suffering with constipation for a while. It would certainly explain his bouts of vomiting every 3 to 4 days. We'll be keeping a close eye on him from now on. Having treated his brother (Herman) with Lactulose every day for the same condition all his l...

Re: Boris has an irregular heartbeat...

Thank you so much for your response Sarie. Really helpful information. I've not monitored a cats breathing before and as an engineer I'm fidning it fascinating. When he's fast asleep it can be as low as 18 breaths/min. When he's leaping across the bed at 5:00am, purring loudly, it's well into the 30...

Re: Boris has an irregular heartbeat...

Thanks Anna. He certainly is a fighter just like your Lily. We've been out today & I've worried about him all the time. I needn't have done. We've come home to a very hungry & purry cat. He's wolfed an entire pouch of ID & is begging for more. We're not giving him more though just in cas...

Re: Boris has an irregular heartbeat...

Thanks all. He is a constant worry at the moment with his various issues. I thought we were getting somewhere because the last 2 weeks he's been fab, eating all his food, sleeping well & looking happy. That all ended Tuesday morning when he was suddenly sick & then rushed to the litter tray,...

Re: Lily's constipated

Woo hoo! Brilliant news! Love the finger buffet reference. We're going through the same with Boris who has gone right off his food following a couple of bouts of sickness this week. Our cat cupboard has a better selection of food than we have in our own cupboard! Fusses to your girl from me & my...

Re: Boris has an irregular heartbeat...

Boris's appt is for Thursday at 2.00. I actually took him to see Steve yesterday because he's has vomiting & the squits on & off for a week. He had another episode last night & is looking really sorry for himself today. Steve asked me to monitor his breathing. This morning I've done it t...

Boris has an irregular heartbeat...

I took Boris for a check up today during which Vet Steve found he had a 'galloping' heartbeat. Not only was his heartrate very quick but it was also fainter than normal. Steve has referred him to see Mike Holgate (Cheshires best Cardiac Vet) next week for a scan. He fears he may have soft tissue gro...

H gets us into trouble.... AGAIN!

I haven't posted an H tale on here for a while because he's been a good boy for a while now & we finally hoped after 6 years that he's finally grown up... Ummm.... 6.00 Saturday morning Glen fed both cats & let H out. We settled back down for a lie in but were woken by the phone at just gone...

Re: Lily's constipated

Hi Anna Thanks for asking after Boris. It's probably easier to list what's right with him. We're having trouble stabilising his thyroid readings, kidney readings were high but they've come down a bit, he's lost over a kg in weight & his heart has developed a gallop rhythm. He can no longer chew ...

Re: Lily's constipated

Hi Anna I've not been on here for a few weeks & I'm so sorry to read your having troubles with Lily. We've been having issues with Boris recently & we've hit on blending his food into a smooth paste. We bought the cheapest hand blender we could find (good old Tescos) & use it to blend hi...

Re: Boris has a bad bottom

Hi All. Took Boris to the vet where Steve checked him over & concluded he had gastroenteritis. He had a couple of jabs & some medicine to have once per day to settle things down. 3 days later & my boy has not been ill since & has fully regained his appetite. In fact he's eating more ...

Boris has a bad bottom

The last couple of days Boris has had quite a squitty bottom which is unusual for him. I plan on calling the vet tomorrow but does anyone have any tips on what to feed him until then? We're thinking plain chicken? He's been losing weight steadily for a few weeks so is still having tests to find out ...

Re: Boris losing weight

Dear All I've returned from Germany to find Boris is eating well, sleeping well and not howling day and night. We're hoping the adjusted dose of Thyroxin is kicking in and is suiting him. He has to go back for a blood check w/c 3rd November. I'll keep you updated on his progress. Thanks for all your...

Re: Boris losing weight

Thanks for your wishes guys. Boris has hardly touched his food all weekend. We've got his meds into him by giving it on a few Dreamies which he loves. He is eating a little but nowhere near as much as normal. I'm in Germany for a few days so I hope he'll be ok. If he's no better when I get back he'l...

Re: Boris losing weight

Hello Team Well the blood results are in and are not what we expected! Boris's thyroid level is way too low at only 11. Last bloods in April showed him as being smack in the normal range. We've upped his meds a bit for the last couple of days and we'll see how he goes. Vet Steve has said that it's n...

Re: Boris losing weight

Thanks for the info Kay. If it is only 16 days then we may well consider that. Is it a one time only treatment, i.e. once done the thyroid tissue cannot return?

Re: Boris losing weight

Hello Ria - Apparently thyroid tissue can regrow anywhere so finding it Steve says is almost impossible, unless there is a discernable lump. Kay - He's still on Thyroxin but at a much reduced dose currently. His bloods were taken late last night well after his 6:00am dose. We would consider the radi...

Boris losing weight

Hello team. I've taken Boris to the vet this evening as he's very howly day & night as well as losing weight. He's had blood taken & we should get the results back on Wednesday. Vet Steve feels Boris has regrown thyroid tissue which is causing his symptoms. Whatever it is it would be great t...

Re: I think her time is drawing near

The symptoms sound soooo like my 16 year old Boris at the start of this year. He was very hit & miss with his food. Numerous vet visits found nothing until he went to a dental specialist. Xrays & scans eventually showed a deep seated infection in his mouth. He had several teeth out & lon...

Re: Play biting

H has always done this. He'll show me his tummy to rub and then after a couple of rubs his tail flicks and he goes into 'play' mode. Trouble is his front claws are like razors which hurts the most, whilst he bunny kicks my arm and bites my hand. I blow gently into his face which seems to stop him. I...

Re: Engine oil in fur

Thanks for your replies. I asked our vet & he kindly gave me a small bottle of cat shampoo. My neighbour came round to lend a hand & between us we managed to wash the oil out. I hope that our war wounds will heal quickly. Meantime H is now asleep on the settee.

Re: Alternative senior food - any suggestions?

I've just started Boris on Royal Canin 12+. He has mouth & kidney issues & has been fussy about eating renal food for a while. He loves the new food which comes in pouches in a rich gravy. I'm also giving him 12+ dry food too. His weight had recently dropped from 5 to 4.5kg. On the new food ...

Hello. Took H to see Steve last night. He's running a temperature so has picked a bug up from somewhere. He had a shot of painkiller & antibiotic. What a difference! He wolfed his tea last night & was all over us for his breakfast this morning. We've been told to keep him in for 24 hours to ...
