Re: Advice needed - stray/ferral cat in garden

Yes looks like an un neutered male to me too, more than likely has wondered a bit too far in his search for females and can't find his way home now. Sadly many males end up lost this way.

Re: Cat gave birth now now incontinent....

Most of the hand rears are litters found in sheds after mummy's have been stray and then involved in road accidents or just abandoned or found feral kittens with missing mummy's :( We also get some that thru stress are just completely rejected by mummy's. 18 years in rescue and every kitten season s...

Re: Cat gave birth now now incontinent....

I am unable to mix them with my own cats (who would hate them anyway) as I have a calici carrier. The only other mummy's we have in the rescue have older kittens and large litters so wouldn't be able to adopt these. It's ok tho, I hand rear several litters a year and they have a heat pad and a soft ...

Re: Cat gave birth now now incontinent....

Sadly not :( They did x rays and found nothing, her bladder was constantly really full and it was just the excess leaking out, she had no sensation at all for either urine or faeceas and all 3 vets agreed kindest thing to do would be not wake her up from the anaesthetic. They did say if I wanted to ...

Re: Cat gave birth now now incontinent....

Thanks guys, she is back in the vets :( Was initially given options of time or pts, then another vet suggested a further x ray of an area that can have a break that can cause them to lose all sensation (as you say mark it would be a break that has snapped the nerves too), apparently the amount of fe...

Cat gave birth now now incontinent....

Has anyone in rescue on here had a cat incontinent after giving birth? I picked up a heavily pregnant stray on wed night, she had kittens within 6 hours, 3 of them and all average size. Mummy cat is very timid and maybe 2 years old and has def had kittens before. Since then she has constantly leaked...

Re: Struggling to pill Kylie with Metronidazole

Metronidazole tablets are the pits! I have 2 on them ATM for ibd and post surgery but we stopped tablets as couldn't get them down them at all. They are now on a mil of liquid each twice a day and while still smells grim it doesn't make them foam and go nuts and seems to go down quite smoothly.

Re: Strange behaviour following sedation

Aww poor boy! From experience sedation can be worse than anaesthetic and the reversal isn't quite so complete, my Nan's cat had sedation for a de Matt a few years back and she was falling everywhere when she came home and even wet herself! She was still a little doddery the next day but fully recove...

Re: Flea control tablets?

Yes I use capstar on my feral, just put one in her food when I flea the others- I never see any fleas on her and I know someone else in rescue who swears by them, apparently in an infested cat the fleas just drop off while waiting for a spot on to kick in.

Aww bless them hope they make it. My wonky last year was seriously ill from flu her mum was carrying at 4 weeks old, started on synulox and after a couple days I knew I was going to lose her without drastic action, took her to a different practice (that I now use all the time they are so good) and h...

Re: Vibes For Hector

If tubes that blocked with infection then it would need to be a powerful antibiotic such as antirobe or baytril. They tried charlie on synulox first and no improvement whatsoever. Is he on metacam too? My youngest (child!) has heaps of ear infections and eustacian (sp?) tube dysfunction thing and it...

It was quite intense, one was a kitten of about 4 months literally got up one morning and she was circling on the spot with a major head tilt, I thought she had had a stroke or sonething. She regained her balance in a few days but had her head tilt forever. The second was my poor charlie who was fou...

Aww poor hector- I've only just seen this thread. Have they thought about x raying his head? If it was inner ear infection that would show up (although ear drops as far as I'm aware are only for visible outer ear infections??) We have always used antirobe for inner ear infections and had very fast i...

Re: Cat Mandible/lower jaw question

Unless I have understood your description incorrectly, it sounds like she has broken her bottom jaw? The bottom jaw of a cat is commonly broken thru impact of car accidents etc, but if each side of her lower jaw moves independantly then you will need to get to a vet ASAP...... Good luck hope she is ...

Others may disagree with me on here, but I happen to think re homing one would be the best option, it sounds like they clearly don't want to live together and possibly haven't been happy for some time if the stressed cat has a history of being stressed, I have been doing rescue for 17 years and have...

Re: Cat i adopted after it was abandoned

Capstar flea tabs work brilliantly and kill all their alive fleas within the hour and can be crushed in food, the downside is it doesn't kill the eggs, but I have 5 cats, one is a feral who has the capstar in her food once a month, the others have advantage, herd immunity from the others advantage a...

Re: Lactating cat has bad diarrhoea

Again it's very common in cats rearing kittens as it is in kittens, kitten food is higher in protein and cleaning the kittens they take in a lot of protein. Put the mummy on royal Canin sensitivity pouches and it will sort her out. Or for higher calorie version royal canin gastro intestinal.

I had to stop using spot ons altogether on one of mine (I do rescue so treat scores of cats with spot ons) so it wasn't a decision I took lightly, but he used to go mental and vet could only think the liquid was actually hurting his skin given his reaction. I even tried putting water alone in an emp...

My vets always advise it's given for spays, I do rescue and def wouldn't buy it each time as we always have it in anyway, I usually just give it for midline spays.
