Re: survet of irish vets

thisis EXACTLY why I want to do this survey, and publish the results. my first confirmed FIV was Ghostie, who is right now sleeping upstairs in a cat pile. she has had cancer twice but been treated. i know she will die young, but I have NO DOUBT IN MY MIND that her young demise will be down to prior...

survet of irish vets

I am a vet nurse student in second year. i am half thinking of writing an article for the irish veterinary journal on FIV. more specifically..... on attatudes of Irish vets to FIV. i was thinking of sending a survey out to all vets, and collating the results, and writing my article based on that, hi...

caveat: i amstudying t be a vet nurse! I also have cats including ferals, and have dealt with good and bad vets over the years. the reson owners are often asked to step out of the room is not so we can abuse or traumatise your animal. it is not even because the animal will be more or less traumatise...

old old lady.....

Minnie is old...... her exact age is unknown but I took her home when she was dumped from a van about ten years ago, and the vet at the time already said she was old. she has henerally been very healthy once her initial parasites and ovarian cysts were dealt with. she has always snored loudly. three...

Re: Converting standard burglar alarm to pet friendly one?

i didnt even know pet friendly ones existed!!!! this is FANTASTIC news to my ears! i just always assumed that the cats would set the alarm off every time they jumped in the window or onto the back of the couch! we have no alarm and I have no info for you whatsoever I'm afraid. i have relied on the 4...

Re: Fostering arrangement gone very sour...advice appreciate

What an AWFUL situation! I honestly have no idea as to the legalities here, but would consult a solicitor if I were in Elaine's shoes. I CAN say that heart problems are not always audible at vet check-ups, and that there would be an increased risk of the others having heart issues if they are siblin...

Nice to meet you! I am Irish, living in county Meath. I have a small sanctuary with 32 cats, 4 dogs, 3 snakes, four ex battery hens and an evil rooster who was gonna be PTS for attacking children. He now attacks me instead but I can fend him off with my trusty snow shovel most of the time! Your cats...

Kittens are FAR cuter than those ugly bald puppies humans have lol!

Thank God for bathrooms eh? Not much ey can destroy in there, and easy to clean up any messes! But yes.... The toilet seat danger is ever present. Mind you, my hubby is now very well trained!

Patches ears came off....

They were amputated on Tuesday and are healing really well, the vet was delighted at her post-op visit today. I felt TERRIBLE on Tuesday night as she was going crazy with the buster collar on. So much so I had to crate her. She actually tried to run through the window pane..... She is much calmer no...

Such a lovely story! That is one heck of a holiday souvenir to bring home eh? Lol I have a mixed gang of feral and tame rescues. My gang are all pretty used to newcomers at this stage, but I follow the same method with every new arrival, and it has yet to fail me. I begin with the new one in the bat...

Re: Feline dementia

Best of luck with it! It is blooming hard to catch them and then get them into a carrier. Wear long sleeves and gloves if you can, the last thing you need is a nasty bite. Perhaps a local TNR group, or your vet, could loan you a trap? It doesn't sound like she is in immediate danger so gently-gently...

Thank you all! He has no antepsin yesterday and hasn't vomited at all. He is even eating chicken and cat food! The vet thought maybe the antepsin was making him vomit, and I also suspected that. I am glad he is off it as I have read it is to be used cautiously in human kidney patients. Mark, thank y...

Re: kitten peeing on my side of the bed

I have only seen those pads for Dogs, not for cats. I think that is for a. Good reason because training the two species is so revert different. If a cat gets used to going on newspaper, goodbye books! Dogs take longer to learn but are more easy to train to a place than a surface type, in my experien...

Worth a try Sue, but I have never had any luck with them personally. But if the litter is the problem, then you don't want the cat thinking that soft things are a toilet....... Because then ALL soft things become toilets!

Re: Strange random chewing movements when not eating?

Poor Penny probably had CKD too then...... She was only ever treated for the infections she had at e time... Which were plentiful! I reckon the vet knew any aggressive treatment was pointless as she was so messed up anyway, and just focused n giving her a decent quality of life while she was here. S...

I am sorry if that came across as rude! I didn't mean it that way at all. I know how bloody hard it is with ferals and medical care........ Just retread my post and didn't like the way it came across. But it was meant as sound advice, not snottiness! X

Re: Feline dementia

I deal with many ferals as I have a sanctuary for them. I have also had one cat with properly diagnosed dementia, but she was 24 years of age. I would imagine that there is a physical cause to Daisy's signs. Ideally she would visit a vet, but I do understand your difficulty in catching her. If there...

I have been neglecting her because I was so focused on Locky, but her appointment has now been maðe for next Tuesday.
