Re: Pallina, hyperthyroid cat. Seeking advice

I asked my vets to send the serum to two different labs for the thyroid check. The Ghent clinic asked me to have a thyroid test after 30, 90 and 120 days. The last test was due in mid February, but I asked them a new test in the middle to understand what's going on with her low T4 and fT4. Sending ...

Re: Pallina, hyperthyroid cat. Seeking advice

The vet's reply that I was waiting for arrived on Monday in the afternoon. On the same day Pallina was visited by her regular vets and had a blood test. Her liver has visibly improved, I think it's because of the supplements I am giving her. Her kidneys are slightly better, despite a month long ther...

Re: Pallina, hyperthyroid cat. Seeking advice

I tried to call the vet who visited Pallina a month ago, nobody answers. I called my vet and he told that the other vet is probably on holiday... So, this elusive vet visited Pallina, gave her a temporary therapy with prednisolone, asked me to have her checked after ten days so that he was able to a...

Re: Pallina, hyperthyroid cat. Seeking advice

Hi everybody and happy New Year! :D A bit of update... I am still waiting for a reply from Ghent doctors... The vet had told me that their IM professor was on holiday during the Christmas week and that she would be back after Jan 1st, so I am waiting. They should give me a word of advice on Pallina'...

Re: Squamous Cell Carcinoma on nose

Hi Grace56, Reading your story has brought bad memories to my mind. My cat Lola had a carcinoma IN her nose and she was successfully treated with radiation therapy, but it was probably a different kind od carcinoma, it wasn't an SCC. My cat had a long course of radiation therapy and she was given a ...

Re: Tails of the radioactive cat (or Mouse.) Radio-iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism

Thanks Antonio - Pippin is happy to curl up in a warm bed almost anywhere, so I think a cosy spot in my study and occasional cuddles will keep him reasonably happy. I have two huge garages (full of assorted workbenches, projects and stuff!) so do have somewhere to store litter etc, although I think...

Re: Tails of the radioactive cat (or Mouse.) Radio-iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism

Fjm , my cat was diagnosed with HT in September 2016 and treated with radio iodine in August this year. This long time was due to the inexperience of my vets because here in Italy this therapy is mostly unknown. I have a thread on my experience. Pallina, my cat, stayed in isolation at the facility w...

Re: Pallina, hyperthyroid cat. Seeking advice

Hi Patricia, hi Lilith. Thanks for calling :D Patricia, I hope you had a nice time in London. The scan this morning revealed a good amount of fluid in Pallina's chest. The vet drained 140 ml, more than twice the amount at the end of November. Her lungs are the same as the last time, her heart is fin...

Stuart, if you want to give us a chance, you can type in your blood results. No need to scan the page and hide the personal details, just type in the levels along with the ranges.
Someone could be of help ;)

Re: Cat licking herself raw- Please please help!!

My cat used to do the same some years ago. She started licking obsessively the lower part of her belly until it became totally bald, then she continued to the rest of the abdomen and legs. There was a period of time when she had her belly totally naked from her sternum down to her tail, her sides an...

Re: Cat licking lips, possible IBD?

Hi TuxedoDaddy. My cat has IBD. She has been vomiting since I had her. But in the beginning it was just an occasional episode every now and then, in the last times it was an everyday thing, so we investigated further and we found out it was an IBD related to a food intolerance. She would throw up wi...

I'm so very sorry for what happened and what you're going through.
As for your wife, I'd tell her. Tell her the truth, this would be the third lie, if I have understood it well, and she could never trust you in the future.

We must be very attentive to all symptoms, even to those that don't show. In all vet clinics and surgeries over here in Italy there's a new poster from Eukanuba that reads: "Please, do not confuse your research on the internet with my veterinary college degree" I say, thanks God we can have access t...

Booktigger, I know it too well when you say that it is a neverending story. I'm into something similar myself... What is the machine they're waiting for from the ther branch. Is it the one for the ionized calcium? Does your vet do SDMA test in his lab or will he send it outside, to IDEXX? Fingers cr...

No answer yet from Ghent... However yesterday we have re-scheduled the next tests for Pallina. On Thursday 21st December we'll have an ultrasound scan to see if the new meds are effective for her chest fluids. The thyroid test at the IDEXX labs (to cross check the reliability of the currently used l...

Re: Tails of the radioactive cat (or Mouse.) Radio-iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism

I think I have understood that the sample has to be sent to Germany for the test. IDEXX labs are all over, but it seems that they just collect the samples. I called the Italian branch two days ago, I asked them for a bit of info on some thyroid tests to be done at their labs. They were very tight, t...

Yesterday I called the Ghent University to ask why they didn't reply my emails. They checked, the emails were in, they had read them, but not replied. Re: Pallina, hyperthyroid cat. Seeking advice

I would have thought two machines giving the same result was reliable, when Lucy's calcium levels went up the first thing they do is a retest to make sure human error isn't to blame. Unless both machines are calibrated and certified, there is no guarantee at all that what has been read is true. Thi...

The Mousey update - Results came through today - T4 19.9, liver enzymes ok, creatinine 140, STMA 14, globulin 46. All ok :) Urine ok though a little dilute, and I'm advised to have an extra blood pressure check on her before the next test in February, just to monitor things, but no concern, no need...

Re: Pallina, hyperthyroid cat. Seeking advice

Hi all, On late Thursday the new vet sent me an email and told me to start giving Pallina a new med, prednisolone pills, 5 mg, one pill daily. This should reduce the inflammation in her lung and reduce the fluid build up. I'm sure this would also help her with her IBD or stmach issues. He also switc...

Can't remember if they didn't advice you about sub-Qs, medications like ACE-inhibitors or probiotics, and if not, why they didn't. Would they be in contrast with her calcium situation? Hi Patricia, hi all, I went to this new vet yesterday, I was there 4 pm sharp! I knew him by name, I had read some of his articles in the past years. Wel...

How high is urea? And how was SDMA before this time?
I only found a post in March where you said it was 16.
Hopefully the vet will call you soon with some indication for a treatment or a therapy :(
Poor Lucy... when these poor creatures get old they have too many disorders... :( :( :(
