Re: Eating leaves/grass?

When my cat eats the grass and vomits, she throws up stomach juices or (un)digested food, not hair.
So I prefer she does not eatany grass at all.

The other cat I had would eat lots of grass, she never puked in her life. So there was no purpose in eating it, just for the taste of it :)

Re: Pallina has been hospitalized: pancreatitis

This late afternoon I decided to change the schedule, I booked a heart scan for tomorrow at 6:30 pm. There are signs in Pallina, like the tiredness, some lethargy, lack of appetite, the fainting, the fluids in her chest, the slight heart murmur that some vets had detected (first time in Belgium at t...

Re: Eating leaves/grass?

My cat Pallina chew and eat grass only to vomit, so I do not allow her to eat it! I was told by a vet that the grass in a cat's stomach leads to inflammation and possibly gastritis. My cat has IBD, duodenitis and other GI issues, so I would more than happy if she stays away from anything that is gre...

Re: Pallina has been hospitalized: pancreatitis

On last Friday we had a scare! Pallina had just gone out in the backyard, supervised by my wife while I was in the kitchen preparing the dinner for the ferals. I heard a cat scream, I thought it was a fight between the ferals, but a few seconds later my wife ran inside with Pallina in her ar...

Re: Pallina has been hospitalized: pancreatitis

Glad she is back home. Naughty girl for biting the vets, Tilly would tell her it is much more productive to be cute to them! I, too, didn't recognize her. Usually she bites me at home when I try to handle her too much. At the vets' she's so scared that she turns into a toy cat, they can turn her as...

Re: Pallina has been hospitalized: pancreatitis

Poor Pallina, sending get well wishes to her and hoping she’s home and feeling much better soon. (Re Metoclopramide, I once had that and it made me feel terrible, I just didn’t know where to put myself, it was kind of like restless legs but all over my body, I think it’s a common side effect, hopef...

Re: Pallina has been hospitalized: pancreatitis

Pallina's home! :D Yesterday after work I drove straight to the clinic (10 miles / 16 km from me) and when I got there they told me were going to release her, she was fine enough to go home. Too fine, in their opinion, because she had bitten them all    They told she had eaten good, n...

Re: Pallina has been hospitalized: pancreatitis

I'm so sorry that she is so poorly - I'm sure my vet told me that SDMA is only classed as early stage CKD till 26. I am surprised that they didn't think too much of the jaundice. Fingers crossed she improves Do you mean that they should have addressed the jaundice some way? Any tip on this? They sa...

Pallina has been hospitalized: pancreatitis

Hi all, As I told you in a separate thread (which is not mine), Pallina has been hospitalized :( I and my wife had been away for holiday the first three weeks of June. Some days before leaving, Pallina had a visit with a University professor to try and understand her issues, mainly the chest fluids ...

Re: Tilly has pancreatitis again

@Apples_mummy, @alanc, Pallina has been hospitalized last night... she wasn't fine at all, she was eating less and less, yesterday she was clearly in pain or discomfort, she vomited twice. At the vet she peed yellow. Her bilirubines are very high, and all liver levels are way over the max limits. Sh...

Re: Is it time?

It's late, but I want to give my contribute. My beloved cat had mouth carcinoma and died March last year. I had to syringe feed her for months, until one day I realized that the procedure was too stressful and painful to her and in the last attempt to keep her with me some more days, I asked the vet...

Re: Tilly has pancreatitis again

I've been away from home for a while, so I missed some posts. @Apples_mummy, like booktigger said, Tramadol is a real strong painkiller and in some cats it might give a bad reaction. My cat Pallina was given a shot of Tramadol a few months ago during what it seemed to be a pancreatitis flare up, but...

Re: Colitis and heart issue.

I am reading a lot about IBD (my cat, Pallina * , has it too) and cholangitis, and I found out that colitis falls in the same category of issues. Probiotics, prebiotics and digestive enzymes look like a good approach to ease these troubles, at least their symptoms. I also found that slippery elm pow...

Re: Colitis and heart issue.

Hi, I'm sorry for your Alfie. I know your depression because right now my cat is going through a period of poor appetite due to a cholangiohepatitis. It is important that your cat eat the minimum amount of food required by his weight. The calories intake can be determined with the following formula:...

Re: Pippin's experiences with hyperthyroidism

Last I used it, it was a course of 4, I opted to go for acupuncture first with Lucy, purely because I didn't think she'd tolerate it, that was also a 4 week course Pallina and Lola had a 5 week course of acupuncture too. Pallina for her stomach issue, it didn't work much. Lola for her arthritis and...

I went to see her today. She has improved and rolled over to let me rub her tummy and scritch her head. If Pippin is fine at three months, you can imagine how very good he will be in another three months! :D

I would recommend this treatment forever. I would do tha tagain to any future cat of mine, if necessary. It's kind of a miracle!

Re: Tilly has pancreatitis again

I think the basic problem is the hot weather - she has far too much fur! I could say, lucky you with the hot weather. Over here, in the warm Italy, it's nearly like winter time! Don't the vets have a air conditioner? Is it really hot at the clinic? Are you allowed to visit her often? Hopefully the ...

Areas affected by a fungus do seem sore or else, just bald, with no fur, neat borders and skin in the middle.
Do you have a photo of those bald spots?

Re: Bald spots

Hi and welcome! Could it be a fungus? Two feral cats that I feed in my courtyard had developed small bald patches on head and face. I took some photos of those patches and showed a vets them, and she prescribed a anti-mycotic cream. I put this cream on the spots for about 10 days now, and I plan to ...

Re: Kidney failure dx - Meloxicam and first time with UK vet

As far as I know, long term use of Metacam can lead to renal failure. My cat was given Metacam daily for weeks, but she was terminally ill, so the kidney issue was minor. So, what I think, is that the Metacam migh thave damaged Shilo's kidneys, and as far as i know the damage is irreversible. You ca...
