Re: Senior cat food - is it worth while?

With a houseful of oldies I do feed some senior foods, though not religiously, mainly with their kidneys in mind. I don't tend to worry until they reach double figures, though. For cats with kidney issues that won't eat the prescription diets I've been very grateful for the reduced phosphorus senior...

Wow, you've really been through the mill, I'm so sorry. I agree with Ria, and the others, that a 2nd opinion from another vet would be worth seeking. I've been there with a vet that you feel is ignoring your opinions - it's of no use to you and only serves to reduce your faith in them and increase y...

Re: Cat with pancreatitis - blood in diarrhea.

My old Minnie had various gut issues and sometimes had blood in her poos for the last 8 years of her life. She gradually became unable to tolerate cereals or fish, and ended up on steroids (prednisolone) for her last year or two, but she nearly made it to 20. She too was tiny, and became skinny in o...

Re: My 3yr old Balinese girl died unexpectedly

I'm so very sorry to hear what happened, but as the others have said sometimes these things just do happen. You loved her, you took her to a vet when she needed you to and you tried your best for her - that's all she could have asked of you. Many cat owners have plants and flowers in the house, I ca...

Re: Bo Rap kitty version?

This thread has reminded me that I used to sing a version of Dizzee Rascal's 'Bonkers' to Daz when he was first trapped, neutered and came to live with us. I still call him 'Dazzee Rascal' sometimes! :D To have a home and a bed is a daydream I'm a tom but I'm not quite what I seem In a bush in the w...

Hi Felinebliss, I agree with all your points, and do agree that it's something we all need to bear in mind. I had a cat that detested the smell of lavender, to the extent that she would limbo out from under my hand and avoid me if I'd just washed my hands in my favourite lavender hand soap! On the o...

My Daz wasn't keen on the urinary diets either, I could get him to eat the dry version, but not the wet, so ended up feeding him half regular wet food (with added water) and half urinary dry . Like Booktigger, I concentrated more on lots of extra water in his diet and a supplement of Cystophan/Cysta...

Re: Mr Blue - greasy fur

I have used a food supplement for their coats, but I'm no help as I'm afraid I can't remember what it was!! My personal feeling is that it's best to treat from the inside out, rather than with something like a shampoo, as it must be a sign of something not being quite right. I once had a cat with st...

I thought that, Kay, and sent the vets a pic in the hope that they would pass it on to the family. I believe Twinks was originally a stray that the old lady took in, but I've no idea how long she's had her. She's an unassuming little cat, I've given her a bed, a blanket and two cushions but she's re...

Re: Rescue cat not bonded

I've only just seen this, sorry. Just a thought, but as someone who has taken in quite a few rescue cats from various situations I have noticed that a few seem to go through a phase of being very friendly at first, then after a few weeks it's as though they withdraw a little. I tend to put it down t...

Re: Advice on whether I can introduce a kitten into my 2 cat home

I'm only just catching up on this, but I agree with the overall theory that an older cat would be a safer bet than a kitten. In fact, a fully adult cat of around 4/5 years, in my view, so they don't have the boundless energy the youngsters have and have gone through their 'teenage' years. I'm anothe...

I'm always in two minds about clips like these. Half of me just wants to enjoy them at face value, and half of me worries about the culture of posting stuff like this for entertainment, that people might try putting cats in buckets, about what's in the bubbles, about how the cat really feels about i...

Much as I moan about the cold (and have been this week as it's been blerdy freezing!) at least you can do more about warming up than you can about cooling down. I hope it goes back down to sensible levels soon, and bless you for helping out! :)

I think it's really down to the punishment they get from the cat. From what I've seen, even many of the pricier ones are built from card and hardboard rather than solid wood.

Re: Cat can't find his way back in through the flap

I agree with Lilith, I'd keep him in after dark for now and leave the issue until later in the year. The problem is that once he knows you'll let him in at the front door, he'll just keep asking! Dope or not, you do have to wonder who is training who sometimes! :P
