Re: a sometimes litter box problem

Two things come to mind, first, while a lot of cats live into the late teens, 11.5 years is past middle age for a cat so dementia is a possibility. If he is in the early stages of it he could be just getting a little confused at times. Secondly, have you checked his blood sugar levels whenever he pe...

Re: Panic

I'm not sure its normal, but we did have one that reacted every year to her booster shots (it may be of no surprise that she was a tortie). She was always under the weather for about 24 hours, just wanted to sleep, not interested in food, fuss etc. She would then perk up and be fine. I guess like hu...

We do tend to worry and assume the worst. So glad to read that it looks like it is something fairly 'simple'.

I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed that by the time you have to go back next week it has all cleared up and no biopsy is needed.

Re: Hello and Sneezy cat help

My first thought was allergy as well, if the only symptom is sneezing. As Bobbys Girl said try and think if there is anything new in the house or in the garden if he has access to outside. Not only large items, but small ones as well, surface cleaners, polish, air fresheners, even washing powder (or...

Re: No flea treatment works

I can't say I have come across anything like this, we use Stronghold, expensive but it does seem to work for ours, but I would guess it works the same as the ones you have already tried so unless the active ingredient is different it probably isn't worth trying. My thought is actually a step back in...

So sorry to read this and I think you have made the right decision, give him the best time you can for as long as he has. I can't help with experience, the only one of the cats i have had to put to sleep due to cancer had it in her abdomen, and it progressed extremely quickly. By the time we realise...

Re: Unsuitable to adopt - build outdoor enclosure before approaching rescue centres again?

I'm only in Wolverhampton, so I can suggest someone to try. Sally Edwards runs the ARC the Ashmore Rescue for Cats and my recent 2 came from there and she was the one that rehomed the blind and the one eyed kitten to a home that already had a blind cat. She would certainly be able to find one or mor...

Re: Help Kitten peeing on beds

It might just be the feel of the bed, but to be honest I've exhausted my ideas. A check up at the vets would certainly be the first stop now, other than that keep the bedroom door shut for a while and hope he relearns that the litter tray is the place to go. I really hope it is a simple solution. Co...

Re: Unsuitable to adopt - build outdoor enclosure before approaching rescue centres again?

I admit I was shocked to read this. If you already know the road to be dangerous and are willing to put in the extra work an indoor only cat needs then there shouldn't be a problem, the only thing I would be at all concerned about would be if you just wanted a single cat which would be left inside b...

Re: Help Kitten peeing on beds

My first thought it sounds very like what happened with one of the ginger kittens we had when I was a kid, at about 4 months old he suddenly started peeing on the bed. He used a litter tray fine until then. A quick visit to the vets and as the vet put it 'he's a big lad isn't he', he wan't just refe...

Blue, our old Ragdoll had virtually all his back teeth out when he was about 13 years old, and lived for another 3 years until old age finally caught up with him. Like you we were told to soften the dried food up with water and even to mix water into the wet food for the first few days. Unfortunatel...

Last year, after we had had our youngsters a few months and they were going out, one of our neighbours knocked at the door to let us know that one of the cats was wandering up and down the bedroom windowsill on the outside. Not a problem our old Tabby has always done it, ' oh its not the tabby, its ...

Re: Skin/Fur problem- anyne seen anything like this?

While not quite the same, my Mum's cat has something similar but only for about 2-3 weeks every June. It's basically been decided that it is an allergy reaction to something in the garden that is out during those few weeks. As it obviously irritates my Mum's cat and she ends up pulling her fur out s...

What I did want to add, is have you considered contacting one of the Siamese rescue charities....

I don't know whether it is similar or not, but one of our cats has, what the vet has referred to as, viral gingivitis. This is an inflamation of the gums around the teeth, normally associated with scale an d the need for a dental. Saturn is just under 2 years old and his teeth are fine, its just the...

Re: Putting my cat to sleep TOMORROW - worried it's not right

I have to back up what the others have said and that a quiet end with you holding her is the best thing you can give her now. Making this decision is one of the hardest things that we pet owners ever have to do, but at least we can. One lesson I learned at a young age, when the first cat we had deve...

I know I'm lucky, which is why I make sure I hang on to him. As far as toilet seats go, I also have that one sussed, though not intentionally. When we moved in to the house we were fairly skint so were willing to make do with things. The toilet had one of those heavy wooden seats and we decided it w...

I am no expert and the test results don't mean much to me, but a couple of things I can say. Firstly, I assume they are both up to date on flea and worm treatments. Worms can cause bloating in the stomach, fleas can cause anaemia. I think it looks like the red blood cell count is low so cat or kitte...

I realise sometimes just how lucky I am. I do the cooking, my OH does the washing up and washes the clothes, we both think we have the better half of the deal. I clean the litter trays, he cleans up when any of the cats throw up, this stops either of us being in danger of throwing up ourselves when ...

I think one of the big problems is that with the likes of the RSPCA, PDSA and CPL we think of them as single charities, when really each branch works a great deal on its own, which is why some are really good and some branches are bad. As mentioned in the other thread, i had a bad time with the PDSA...

As far as helping an insecure cat goes then my advise is slightly odd, ignore him. Let him decide when to come out and come to you. Our sitting room is the only room we can use to contain a new cat. This may not sound ideal for a nervous cat, but it worked really well. Most of the time we were in th...

Re: Men About the House (when workmen and cats coincide...)

The estate the house is on was originally an industrial site. In the 70s the factory was knocked down and houses built. About 10 years ago it was found that the factory used a specific chemical (Carbon disulphide I think) and there was a chance of contamination. By that time another company had boug...
