Re: Terrified Cat

It's heart breaking to see, I'm literally the only person he trusts and to see him shaking is so upsetting. He has made progress between Sunday and today albeit very slow.

Terrified Cat

As some of you know I have Tig who's quite a strange cat and quite unlike my other two cats. He's coming up for 7, deaf and has PKD. The rescue vet also thinks he may have suffered some sort of brain damage when he was born as he's not quite the full ticket. I also moved house a month ago and althou...

Re: Possible Epilepsy

I adopted a 7 month old Tig with epilepsy, they weren't sure of the cause as he had a number of health conditions at the time but he did very well on the medication (Epiphen) and eventually he seemed to grow out of it and has been off the Epiphen for a few years now (he's coming up 7). It can take s...

Re: Sick cat in group home

Do you have multiple litter trays? Introducing some more trays may help. Warming up food can also help with eating, either adding some warm water or a few seconds in the microwave (obviously testing to make sure it's not too hot). I know how time consuming it is caring for a very sick cat, you're do...

Re: what to tell a toddler (2 years 10 months) after the death of a pet

How about trying to make it a happy event, what about if your son picks the spot where you bury Puck (maybe guided by you), perhaps a trip to the garden centre to buy a pretty plant to put next to where he's buried or in his favourite spot or a little ornament, perhaps when you bury him you could al...

I'm inclined to agree, I think I'd get her back to the vet or at least call them and explain what's happening, she shouldn't be like that.

He was 5 when he was diagnosed with PKD, he kept getting cystitis and on a routine feel of his abdomen the vet thought he could feel abnormally large kidneys and that was how it started..

Re: How much do you spend on cat food?

I spent a small fortune on a variety of renal foods, none of which Tig will eat! The only food which he will tolerate is the Hills k/d dry, so we have to compromise and he has a small portion of normal wet food with some k/d.

Tig is on Semintra for protein in his urine and it has been successful, his last urine test showed it was back within the normal range. (Tig has PKD).

Re: Cat has colon cancer - advice needed

My cat Hector was around for just a 5 days after being diagnosed with a massive brain tumour. I had decided against an operation and had bought him home for a few last days. He wasn't eating and was hiding away most of the time. I looked at him on the Tuesday morning and I knew he'd had enough. The ...

Re: Litter trays

I did exactly the same, had 4 trays for my 3 cats.. 3 trays downstairs and 1 upstairs, they refused to use the upstairs tray so I gave up with it in the end and removed it. They would all come downstairs to use those trays. Gotta love cats :)

Re: Frequent Sloppy Stools

I found Purina HA really good when Hector had bowel problems. You don't need a prescription for it but it doesn't seem to be something vets recommend, it was a referral vet that put us onto it. Pip is on Fibre Response at the moment (for the opposite reason), I'd be happy to send you some if you wan...

I really feel for you, I battled with these respiratory infections for 8 years with my beautiful Hector. Do you know if he has the Calici (FCV) or Herpes (FHV) virus as well as FIV? Hector had both (although he didn't have FIV) and very little in the way of an immune system (he's the perfect advert ...

In March last year I lost Hector to a brain tumour, we spent weeks treating what we thought was an ear infection only to discover it was so much worse. On the Wednesday the vet called me with his scan results and we discussed the options, surgery with a 50/50 chance of survival as it was in such a s...

Re: Cat had teeth removed 2 mths ago - old problem back

I've had two cats who have had most of their teeth removed due the calici virus and neither had symptoms like that. Both had gums that looked like raw chopped liver and drooled brown saliva with smelly breath. The condition is called FGS and there's an excellent website http://www.dr-addie.com/stoma...

Re: Rehoming a cat that is a flue carrier

As long as any other cats are vaccinated, if they do pick up the cat flu, the symptoms will be much less severe. I had a chronic flu carrier who lived with my other 3, one is now a bit sneezy and the other 2 are fine. As long as he is well cared for, stress kept to a minimum and any flare ups are de...

If you can get to Guildford Noel Fitzpatrick has a newly opened oncology practice near the Royal Surrey Hospital. Although it wasn't open at the time, I received excellent care from Laurent at the practice when my cat was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year.

One more thing try hand feeding her, put it on your fingers and let her lick it or smear it on her lips or paws, sometimes this helps!
