Re: Is this boy a Siamese??

No. Cat genetics are complex and amazing, and very very interesting. For example, there are 3 different whites, genetically speaking, so a cat can be white covered with white with white markings. A cloned genetically identical cat can be a completely different colour, depending on conditions in uter...

Re: Blood Test Advice

Glomerular Filtration Rate - Tanya's Pages has a great section on interpreting results and explains all the different tests is quite a bit of detail. I'm with you on coincidences, they are relatively rare and when a vet categorically says two things are unrelated, that's when I reach for google. The...

Re: Blood Test Advice

Looking at IDEXX https://www.idexx.com/en/veterinary/reference-laboratories/sdma/interpreting-your-sdma-results/ that looks to me as though dehydration can have an effect on SDMA, but in any event take a look at their flowchart and I don't know about you but in the absence of markers on the traditio...

Re: Trying to intro rescue cat to my 2 other cats, not going well

It sounds like you've been under pressure to make it happen by a deadline and tried to rush it. They shouldn't be allowed to see each other until they are all completely comfortable every day for a week either side of a closed door, for instance. And in the end some cats just will not live with othe...

Re: Lost pregnant cat found.

Aw sweetie! All I can suggest would be to take her to the nearest vet to scan for a chip, and hopefully they would be able to keep her until her owner is traced or have her fostered until the kittens are old enough to be homed. I'm quite horrified that a cat rescue would actually suggest dumping a p...

Oh interesting! And if he is already running to you (even if it is away from husband) that is great progress.

Ideal even if unplanned meeting with Saturn, hoping it continues this well for them both. Are Saturn and Freyja close? Does she trust his judgement, at least a bit?

Re: Newly diagnosed FIV in an ex-stray cat

He’s better off inside. FIV cats do have ups and downs. Maybe there is something missing nutritionally. Probiotics maybe. Frozen raw goats milk Goats milk is still dairy and although it's better tolerated than cow's it isn't the superfood it's currently fashionably touted as. Personally I've never ...

Re: Goodbye to my baby boy

Bless your beautiful heart, what a lovely idea to just carry on buying food to help others. So pleased to hear you found fur in the nesting boxes. The sparrows used to follow me as I distributed Boo's fur down the hedge, always the males. I love the irony of the cat's discarded fur giving the next g...

When you're ready for it, understanding friends should be a great help and support to you, but I get what you mean about not wanting to inflict your grief onto them. Re: Please meet Teddy

I don't mean this to come across as arrogant in any way but I think when you know cats well you can tell if you have the right characters to make your own path. The advice for steps is sound and essential for people who don't yet know cats well enough to recognise the red flags, or misinterpret sign...

Re: Goodbye to my baby boy

Irrational for sure, silly certainly not. Sleep is the only respite from emotional pain and even that isn't a given. Grief isn't rational. To soon, too late, too much, too little - guilt is an important part of grieving and even when there is absolutely not a thing to feel guilty about, our mind can...

Re: Goodbye to my baby boy

So, so sorry for your loss. It's so clear you and Fin have shared so much, you saved him and nursed him and encouraged him to be the best cat he could be, and in return he took on your human challenges with you. He has been so much more than just a feline companion, that shines through your sad word...

Re: Gabapentin 25mg from online pharmacy?

The two I've used are Viovet and Petdrugsonline. Both have phone numbers on their websites and have bene very helpful any time I've had questions. Also Chemeyes might be worth a try, I don't know if they do those kind of drugs but worth an ask. The Gabapentin we were given from the vet for Molly onc...

Re: Please meet Teddy

Had a thought, perhaps it's the approach of the hand that makes him nervous. Could you try for a few days letting him sniff your hand then praising him as you move your hand gently away? See if the nothing happens when I sniff helps him to trust you. My old cat Misha always hated the hand coming tow...

Re: Gabapentin 25mg from online pharmacy?

Is it really so horribly expensive that you can't afford it from your vet? I know my Molly's potassium supplement is half price direct from the manufacturer, but if I added back in the price of getting a script from my vet there would be no advantage at all.

Re: Please meet Teddy

Fantastic! Well your old Blue never read the memo and neither did my Boo, good old Raggies! Maybe the play session helped you relax and stop worrying about him settling, too. Also, I've never kept an incoming cat in a separate room (never needed to and now don't have a room) but do they really get t...

Re: Kitten won’t stop screaming from 4:30am until I get up at 7am

As long as you're quite sure there is no medical or other genuine reason for her to start yelling at you at dawn, it's tough love but you need to play dead. Do not get up, do not respond in any way, do not call out to her, nothing - pretend to be asleep even if you can't sleep. If she is after your ...

Re: Blood Test Advice

I had to look on Tanya's Pages for the normal scale and she is well within those numbers, either you've worked miracles or maybe she could have been wrongly diagnosed? If the original diagnosis was made when Lucy was a little dehydrated, or just after a meal, or with other issues going on, that coul...

Re: Blood Test Advice

I was thinking your results ought to be due soon.

Those number are not even borderline, just upper part of normal range. Great. SDMA should hopefully tell the same story but if it does say early changes, what would you do about it? Starting diets and treatments too early can be counterproductive.

Re: Adopted elderly cat not eating for 24 hours

I think I'd give them a call before that, just to be on the safe side and to prevent a more urgent situation. Not necessarily to take her in, but it is odd for her to have seemed settled then stopped eating and be hunched up with her back to you. It suggests she might be uncomfortable and a vet woul...

Welcome and first of all huge love to you for taking on an old lady to make the time she has left the best time of her life. The spit, I take it you mean white foam? Or is it clear sticky liquid? Progress does sound very positive indeed, agreed on using the tray in front of you. Believe it or not I have read all this nodding at a familiar story. Molly also came from a noisy chaotic home and was first rescued at 9 months old, to a quiet home with a young couple. But the noise and chaos made h...
