Little Batcat is missing since Saturday :-(
I am out of my mind with worry.... He was here on Friday evening, with his doggies as usual. He left his doggies for his dinner and hasn't been seen since bedtime on Friday. I have searched every conceivable place I can think of, and aske the lovely cat-man farmer to keep an eye out for him. The far...

Re: Does my cat have a cold?
Well done for rescuing these babies! And for getting medical help. They have a cat flu virus, but they will recover with medicine. Just make sure they get all the doses, which can be difficult! If they like cheese (most cats do!) you can hide the pill in calvita or some processed cheese, and the cat...

Re: Cat ripping up carpet at night
Is she indoor only? If so, does she have a scratching post? They NEED to do their nails (for nails and their muscles) and they are generally more active at night. Let her sleep with you, because it is LUUUUUURVERY! But failing that, spray a scratching post with catnip. Also, vary the scratch posts. ...

Re: Struggling to pill Kylie with Metronidazole
Mark, metronidazole is available as a liquid for infants which can be given to cats. I have had it prescribed in the past. It is sweetened for human kids, so the horrible bitterness is gone. The dose works out as a small amount for a cat, so if you can inject it into the mouth it is FAR FAR easier t...

I meant the ones half-filled with water, left lying on lawns and flower beds etc. Thank you for enlightening me! I found one left by the previous owners here when I cleared some of the garden. They would have spent their time controlling the ivy better if you ask me! I LIKE ivy, but it does need con...

Re: Roxy 22 months has renal failure.
Nope, you are right. Cats can have drug allergies in exactly the same way us humans can. Convenia causes no more allergies than any other antibiotic (as far as I am aware) but the problem is that you cannot extract it once it has been injected, so if there IS an allergy, then the consequences are se...

Ah, great she is doing better! With any luck it is something and nothing. My father had an innere ear infection once. He had noain at all, but woke up one morning and couldn't balance. He thought the doctor was mad for putting him on antibiotics, but it worked! he was walking around like a drunk per...

Lol, I actually AM a bit of a tree-hugger in many respects! But I don't hold much truck with the so-called homeopathic remedies. if chewing on willow helps a headache, then go for it I say. It certainly cannot hurt, and could well have analgesic properties in there. I do have a very real issue with ...

Re: Neighbors don't like cats
Maybe you can answer a question that has been puzzling me for years! Why do people put plastic bottles of water in their gardens? Is it to deter cats? Slugs? Birds? BTW, I am not the OP here. My current neighbours are cattle! Mind you, the dairy ones don't like cats either. there was a big Limoisin ...

I do know how awfully debilitating sleep-deprivation can be..... :-( It does sound like it is just his personality...... If there is no physical cause and he has always done it. I am not well versed on feline diabetes, but have never heard of night-time wailing to be a symptom. The mention of diabet...

RIP Lila..... She is at peace now, and you and your husband will be too, in time. Allow yourselves to grieve and be as kind to yourselves and each other as you always were to Lila. Kindness is a very underestimated quality, and one which we so so often forget to apply to ourselves. Take care, and do...

Re: Roxy 22 months has renal failure.
Maria, I wouldn't give it to my cats either, but it has it's place. Also, customers telling you a cat died of something holds no weight unless they had some actual evidence. Who knows what caused the deaths of those cats unless investigations were done? Perhaps convenia was given as a last ditch att...

Re: Roxy 22 months has renal failure.
The article by the vet sums it up. Convenia can cause reactions like any drug can, but the issue is that it is so long lasting, there is no way to remove the drug from the system, so the adverse reaction will continue. To be honest I didn't evenbother with the FB page, as FB is NOT a place to go whe...

I do sympathis though. There are a few cats here who are utter nightmares to sleep with cos they insist on kissing and cuddling for an hour or so...... A cat slobbering all over your face whilst stabbing you in the jugular does not a restful night make!

Oh please don't go down the shock collar route! I didn't even realise they existed for cats to be honest. They are banned in Scotland on cruelty grounds, and that is for dogs as far as I know. Shocking him in the throat every time he talks is more likely to cause even worse problems..... Like litter...

Re: Neighbors don't like cats
The bunnies here have vacated the premises, mainly due to the fact that the cats eat them (!). The little birds will still get in through the mesh, but I am happy to scatter seeds for them, and chicken pellets. They gave lice to the chickens by sharing their pellets through the dog run (safe face-st...

Re: Roxy 22 months has renal failure.
My views on Convenia are exactly as crewellas..... Great for ferals and bad reactions are no more common that with any other AB, but it is impossible to 'uninject' them if that bad reaction does occur. I have never come across renal failure in such a young cat, but anything can happen, and dehydrati...

It sounds to me like she cannot tolerate something in the favourite food. If the vomiting stopped completely when you stopped feeding it, and returned once you did, then that is a likely cause. I am in Ireland and don't have morrisons here, so I have no idea as to the ingredients they use. It could ...

Hi chat noir. I have no experience of this condition, but wonder if the vet said what caused it? Did he check her ears for infection?
I know it can be caused by an inner ear infection (which would require antibiotics) or tumours, or it can just appear out of the blue.

PMSL Nannymcfee! I hatched a plan today.... We are building a new run for the chickens. Currently they have one of those large dog pens (but get to roam free range too). Just to add, I am also a great fn of Butcher's classic food, both for dogs and cats. Also, if Milo does need to have antibiotics, it is important (just as with any cat, dog or human!) to complete the entire course. If we stop taking the drugs once we feel better, we are basically leaving a small amo...

I have FIV cats and am a student vet nurse. STUDENT...... So anything I say comes with that disclaimer! Immunodeficiency can be caused by MANY things. FIV is just one of them. Using antibiotics will not harm the animals immune system. Antibiotic resistance is a thing built up by the bacteria, NOT th...
