Re: Purposely jumping up to nip me

Is it a proper bite or just a kind of closing her teeth and gripping quickly ?

Could be what's called cat love bites https://www.petmd.com/cat/behavior/cat- ... -they-mean

Some call it 'kisses with teeth'

Re: new very shy scared cat

What you describe is fairly normal for a new cat that comes into a household, especially where there is another cat already there, She has found herself a 'safe spot' and until she finds things less threatening or worrying she is likely to stay there. Gradually she will gain confidence and venture o...

If he is not suffering and his quality of life is OK, and only you can be the judge of that, I would say let the inevitable happen at home where he is comfortable and avoid what might be a traumatic trip to the vet

It also helps if once you have scruffed them (whilst supporting the back end) you quickly turn them upside down so their back goes in first...no chance of last moment leg splaying to fight against being put in the carrier ...........you also get that extra precious second to close the top !!

Re: Cat refuses liquid meds

Rub the medicine on to his upper front leg or on his cheeks or shoulders, but NOT on the back of the neck, that's one place cats can barely reach with their washing...(thats why spot on treatments are put there) he'll have to ingest it then when he washes himself. (Perhaps rub in a little bit more t...

Maybe cats are hardier than dogs ?
Cats hide their illnesses so, to their keepers, they don't appear to need to visit the vet.

I don't entirely agree !
Covered trays stop litter etc being scattered out sideways and methods can be used to reduce anything from coming out of the opening.

Re: Cat pees facing wrong way in litterbox tip

This is not quite the same but also a useful tip I hope. My cat sometimes does the same, (i.e face the wrong way with his backside towards the opening) also he has permanent diarrhoea. I tried long plastic mats at the entrance of the box but he can squirt diarrhoea quite a distance, even beyond the ...

Re: My cat often sit in the litter tray

It could be an indicator that the cat is feeling stressed so it stays in a place where it feels safe.
It also could be an indicator that the cat has a urinary problem or even a blockage. Keep an eye on the situation and monitor if the cat is passing any urine as a blockage can be fatal.

Yes it's difficult with just a dishcloth but I use a bristle washing up brush to clean out the crevices and I find that works OK

Re: Epileptic Cat

Epilepsy is not a reversible condition, although some cats (and humans who have it) can go a long time between seizures. I think you should restart the medication that was previously prescribed even if it means a visit to the vet to get a new prescription. Animal and human physiology gradually chang...

Re: TERRIBLE URINE PONG

A strong smell means (obviously) strong urine! Either something that they ate or insufficent fluid intake. I am assuming you don't want to replace the tray so I suggest the following:- Remove all the litter and discard it. Wash the tray then sterilise it with diluted bleach at 2% solution then wash ...

UNEXPECTED DEVELOPMENT When I brought Lizzie’s body home from the vets I left it in the cat carrier, with the top off, near where Billy usually sits and he paid no attention to it. At the time I thought she probably smells of the vets so he didn't recognise her. He usually stays in the lounge on on...

I'm considering getting another cat to replace her as soon as possible. It has to look very similar as under the terms of the lease where I live I am not supposed to replace a pet that dies.
If I get a lookalike I can say it's the same cat

My Gorgeous is gone

My dear cat Lizzie has died, (her nickname was 'My Gorgeous’) She had been acting in an unusual way for a couple of weeks, hiding away not looking for fuss also not eating or drinking much, but I had put that down to the fact that she had caught fleas, (which she was treated for) Fleas always gave h...

Unless it is through a door (or similar) cat flaps are almost always expensive to fit and need major work.
Perhaps wait and see if the new cat pesters you during the night and in the morning before you consider installing a cat flap.

Funny eating habit

I have 2 cats. Sometimes I use bowls, sometimes I use microchip cat feeders. If I use bowls, one cat often steals the other cats food so I started feeding them in different places (one in the hall and one in the lounge) so the greedy cat fills herself up from her own bowl and the other gets his fill...

Aluminium kitchen foil on (and horizontally overhanging the edge) of the kitchen counters and on the table . After a while they will learn that it is unpleasant under their paws and the overhanging part doesn't give them a firm surface to jump up on.

Re: Flea treatment - frequency

Spot-on flea treatments work by being absorbed under the skin into the subcutaneous fat and any fleas that try to bite them are killed by the insecticide that is just under the skin. In my experience, the minimum interval advised between spot-on treatments is one month. It is not advisable to repeat...
