Re: So you want to give a Kitten for Christmas (Guide)
Really excellent advice - I particularly like the tip on taking a photo of the kitten and wrapping that up - but... dare I say it, are you ever so slightly preaching to the converted, Mrs Kane? I hope Cat Chatters will recommend your post to anyone and everyone considering getting a kitten at Xmas t...

Re: eating more during cold snap?
Thank you all for your replies - and excuse my tardy response, the 'grey blanket' has descended again- and your tips. I'll try the chicken. Rufus isn't keen on chicken breast (oh good god, how picky can a cat be?!) but yes, I do have a blender and could make anything from stew to pate. Worth a go. T...

eating more during cold snap?
I've noticed that when it turns cold Rufus tends to eat quite a bit more. I know we all need to burn more calories to keep warm but since he spends 90% of his time inside the house, and can sleep for up to 12 hours on the trot, I'm surprised that it seems to make such a difference. I don't remember ...

I found a little nugget of poo in Rufus's long bottom fur today which grossed me out just a tiny bit, but I'd have been really grossed out by a slug There should be an emoji for 'being on the point of barfing'!

I really feel for you, geckodiva. I was going to write 'so sorry that little Tat passed away', but I don't actually feel sorry about that. It was time for your poor dear Tat to go, and she went peacefully. I empathise with you, though. It's a good two years since my beloved Blake died in my arms, an...

Re: Cat foood!
Rufus will only eat Felix AGAIL DD at the moment (he was perfectly happy with Whiskas Salmon out of a big tin when he first moved in) and will starve himself if I offer anything else. It does seem to vary wildly in price. Recently my local Sainsbury's was charging £4.85 for a box of 12 pouches, whic...

Re: Some good news ...
My beloved Blake had CKD and I was told to get a urine sample and given a bag of those plastic pellets. I put them in a litter tray but didn't expect this to work at all as Blake hadn't actually used a litter tray since he was a kitten, and now he was very nearly 18. But within minutes of me putting...

Re: Casper's bloodwork came back and I don't know what to think
Joe Danger, my Rufus is exactly the same - he'll rather starve himself than eat something he dislikes. And it's always the cheaper food he dislikes, which then ends up in the bin. :x I'm on benefits and therefore on a very tight budget but it's a false economy to buy cheap cat food. At least ...

Re: Vibes for Lucy please
Hi Booktigger, I heard a vet's tip that you may want to try with Lucy when you struggle to get her into her carrier: try to put her in bum first. I've no idea if it works, but surely anything that might reduce the stress on her is worth a try. Poor fur baby, having needles stuck into her. I used to ...

Oh yes, the ominous quiet ...
There's a story about my former brother-in-law, as a small boy, being suspiciously quiet upstairs, and when his mother called him again and asked what he was up to he replied 'Sorry, I didn't hear you the first time.'

Alice, I've had one of those cat hair removers and although it worked well, I found the little 'studs' wore down fairly quickly.
Mary and Lilith, thanks for the picture posting advice, I'll try it soon!

Re: Was I right to get a companion for Rocky?
Loved the video, Mary, and the genius use of music! By the way, I noticed you have a cat arch in your living room, for 'self grooming'. Do either Rocky or Ria use it? I ask because I got one for Rufus. He totally ignored it, even when I sprinkled it with the catnip that was included. I passed it on ...

I'm going to be really smug here and tell all of you that my new carpet is an exact match with Rufus's fluff, which is invisible until I attach the special cat hair removal thingy to the vacuum cleaner and then I'm amazed at how much of it there is! The vacuum cleaner attachment has that red fabric ...

Re: Is the cat next door being fed enough?
Thank you for all your posts. Kitty is just the same as usual this week... I think the problem can be, and is in this case, that people feed their cat a set amount, say a pouch in the morning and biscuits at night, regardless of whether that is enough or not. I've always fed my cats on demand, and n...

Is the cat next door being fed enough?
This is a trivial issue compared to some of the health issues some of you and your fur babies go through, but I'd appreciate some advice. My next door neighbours are a nice young couple, both in work, two little girls of five and ten. I get on really well with both of them but the girl is the one wi...

Lump leaving and jelly licking seems to be a universal problem. And by the way, Kay, as a (former) Creative Writing tutor I admire the way you've captured this behaviour in just four pithy words! The trouble is that it can make feeding your fussy feline rather expensive. I'm on disability and unempl...

Am I the only person who is sightly uneasy about playing with laser lights? I know lots of cats chase them - we say 'love to chase them' but do we know if they love it? - but there's nothing to catch in the end. Isn't that a bit unfair on the cat, or am I being ridiculously oversensitive here? I als...

What gorgeous pics and videos! I love the flash of Rocky's angry eyes. Norwegian Forest cats are stunning. Am I right in thinking that Maine Coons sort of descended from them? Lemonbella, I'm so glad S is recovering, and I'm impressed by the police's attitude. Cattuslove, I'm so sorry to hear about your poor cat. The symptoms sound very familiar as I had a cat who had chronic kidney disease too. He was 18 years old. Thank you all for your responses. Rufus was sick twice yesterday, but the second time he threw up a hair ball. Then he seemed fine. But this afternoon he was in the front garden eating grass...
