Thanks, it looks quite sore and he's growling at me! If he'll let me I'll have a go, I haven't got long nails though..

Large tic- twister too small
Just discovered a tic on my cat, it looks fairly engorged and I can see a couple of legs! The Tom o'twist is too small and the skin around it looks sore and a little bloody- how can I get rid of it? The vet is emergency only and couldn't advise. Do I just let it drop off on its own or is there somet...

http://m.petmd.com/cat/conditions/respiratory/c_ct_lungworms http://m.petmd.com/cat/conditions/infectious-parasitic/c_ct_heartworm_disease How frustrating when there is obviously something wrong but tests are negative. Re: Asthmatic Cats?
When my cat was diagnosed with asthma/chronic bronchitis she had been having coughing spasms for a while. She had antibiotics which didn't help so started taking prednicare (steroid tablets) There were no other symptoms like wheezing or breathing fast like some cats have. She had an X-ray at a speci...

Re: Itchy ears
Hi, thanks for the info and links regarding ear polyps etc.. sorry to hear your cat's had trouble with those, poor thing. The vet has never suggested polyps as a cause and there are no obvious signs of anything going on in there. Baileys ears are often 'down' when they are bothering her though. The ...

Re: Itchy ears
I picked up the Cortamance and the vet gave me a small syringe to use so I could dropper the liquid in which is probably better than a sudden loud spray in the ear. Bailey wasn't impressed and is now sulking in the garden but I'm so hoping it stops the itching. She's only had the usual ear exam usin...

Re: Itchy ears
Thanks for the suggestions of olive oil or a spray. I called the vet and she said I could try a steroid spray called Cortavance which is for dogs with itchy skin/ eczema but she thought it would be fine to try it for Bailey's ears. If she will tolerate the spray noise! She has an inhaler puffed in h...

Re: Itchy ears
Thanks for your reply. I was surprised the vet didn't suggest something like that rather than tablets. Bailey's itchiness seems to be deep down in her ear and looks as if she can't get her foot in deep enough to scratch it! Not sure a spray would reach right down. She did that scratching reflex when...

Itchy ears
My 10yo ragdoll cat Bailey has had itchy ears all her life and vets can never find out why, no infection, ear mites, fungus etc.. but prescribed surolan or otomax drops which have helped in the short term. Allergy has never been suggested.I have recently weaned her off prednicare for chronic bronchi...

Missing cat Wollaton, Nottingham
Our lovely black cat BC didn't come home yesterday and haven't seen him since. This is so out of character for him as he's more indoor than outdoor. Please look out for him if you live in the area and let me know if you think you've seen him. We're so worried.

My cat also does that! When she wants attention while we are watching tv she will look at us with her big blue eyes and back up to it to spray! Re: Giving my cats up - advice pls!
I can understand how stressed you must be, I would feel the same. Maybe suggest to the neighbour that as he has them most of the time and feeds them would he also like to take on the vet bills and insurance payments? Or why not get his own rescue cat? Or keep them all in for a while to re establish ...

Re: Blood test- how often?
Thanks Crewella, that makes sense. I'll take another look at the website. I'm one of those annoying people who doesn't fully understand the condition, searches the Internet and likes to pepper the vet with questions which she clearly didn't appreciate.

Re: Bailey, prednicare, kidneys, blood test, worried!
Ria, your Molly reminds me of a little tortie cat called Wilma who used to visit every day from a neighbour. She was nineteen years old and was on meds for crf and hyperthyroidism. There was nothing of her, all skin and bones and seemed lighter than a feather when picked up. She was a feisty little ...

Re: Bailey, prednicare, kidneys, blood test, worried!
Hi Booktigger, I'm really puzzled by her eagerness to start a renal diet based on results that seem well in the normal range, as were the previous ones. The red and white blood cell counts were 8.95 and 8.9 which I assume is ok as nothing was mentioned. Re the muscle loss, this is a new idea I think...

Re: Bailey, prednicare, kidneys, blood test, worried!
Hi Ria, apparently it's to do with the low protein in renal food which can cause weight/muscle loss and older cats can end up too thin. It was Jan's post in my other thread that got me looking into it as her vet suggested keeping protein levels up and feeding regular cat food adding apaktine. Tanya'...

Bailey, prednicare, kidneys, blood test, worried!
I've started a fresh thread from blood-test, how often. Feeling very uneasy this morning after talking to the vet. :( I like to ask a lot of questions when one of my cats is diagnosed with a condition and in the past they have said call us if you have any queries. One vet knew I was on a forum and w...

Re: Blood test- how often?
Hi Jan, thank you for your post. Pleased to hear Blackie is doing well, sounds as if you have a good vet. I'm not so sure about ours :? I was interested to hear about protein levels in food, I hadn't looked to see how low it is in the rc renal food. I will be talking to the vet on Tuesday regarding ...

Re: Blood test- how often?
Thanks so much for the links Crewella, very informative. There's a lot to take in from all this info but it's so useful. I rea...

Re: Blood test- how often?
Update on Bailey: the blood test showed that her creatinine (sp?) levels are raised to the upper end of the normal scale compared to the previous test three months ago which was at the lower end. So the vet wants to start her on some RC wet kidney food- not sure of the name yet. Also repeat the bloo...

Re: Blood test- how often?
Thanks for your replies. Bailey didn't need sedation after all, a new lady vet and vn managed to take blood without it! The first time ever so I was pleased about that and Bailey was fine. I hope the vet is there long term for future tests! There was a note about her being a 'naughty cat' which the ...

Blood test- how often?
Bailey has been taking one prednicare tablet a day for nearly a year and she had a blood test last December to check kidney and liver function. All was fine. The vet called last week to say she should have a blood test every three months, so she is booked in for this morning. The problem is that Bail...

Re: High cholesterol
I can find very little regarding cholesterol levels in cats except to say it can be a symptom of some underlying condition. I'm not convinced he is overweight either, at 6 kg he is probably the right weight for a raggy/wegie. I'm cutting down on the dry food though and hoping they will all eat more ...

High cholesterol
Beaker, our big fluffy ragdoll- cross has high cholesterol. He is 8 years old, weighs 6kg and recently has been a bit off colour. He sleeps more than usual and has been a bit loose over the last couple of days. His blood test shows he is all fine except for the cholesterol which is 8.9 The vet said ...

Re: Stopping food before sedation
On one occasion Bailey came out of the specialist vet with several shaved patches on her neck and legs where they had tried to get blood with no success! I don't like the idea of her having to be sedated for a simple blood test but is hopefully less stressful for her. Even our usual vets can't get a...
