A miracle of cross-breeding - a Blue-Footed Booby with a Baboon's bum by the sound of it! Cats, gotta love 'em! :D

Oh I don't doubt that many cats would love their paws to be buttered, it's just I'm not sure it helps them find their way back to a new house after a move any better!! :D

Re: Mental Stimulation for an Injured Cat Confined to a Crate?

If you've read the other threads then you'll know that my Basil had to go through weeks and weeks of cage rest when he had a smashed leg after being hit by a car. I'm afraid the best advice I can give you is to harden your heart, to a degree. They DO adapt and learn to cope with the incarceration, h...

I feel for both of you, but you're both doing the right thing in taking it one day at a time. xx I always keep some Recovery for poorly cats, but have you tried Hills a/d? It's a soft pate that's perfect for syringe-feeding, and it's highly nutritious so they need less of it than other foods. It mig...

Re: Non recognition aggression problem between two siblings.

It's a very common reaction to a cat coming home smelling of vets instead of their usual smell - cats rely on smell much more than sight. It should resolve itself as the smell goes and he starts to smell like himself again, but as Ruth says you can hurry it along a bit by rubbing him with something ...

I have heard the butter on a cat's paws thing, but believe it to be an old wives' tale. Makes no sense to me, and in a new home I'm sure most people could do without the buttery paw prints! :D It's mentioned here, along with some sound advice. https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/pet-advice/rubbing-butter-o...

Re: What do you feed your old cat?

I have a houseful of older cats, and they all do seem to get fussier, and thinner, as they hit their late teens. I agree with what's been said, and I do find that feeding little and often seems to work better - even if you just take it away and give the same bowl back later. If you're really worried...

I had one heck of a job catching Charlie and getting him in a basket, but at last I managed it and he went off to his new home yesterday. I spoke to the new owner today, and he's hiding under the sofa but will allow a stroke and has had his tea, so hopefully he'll be fine. :)

Re: Foster cat with issues

I would certainly give her a few days peace and quiet to allow her to settle in to a new environment after such a dreadful experience. Then perhaps start by just spending time in the room with her, but not actually trying to make contact in any way, so she can see you're not a threat. I've had sever...

Yes, happy retirement Vivian! :) I thought of Gracie immediately, Sue, as I know how much of a daddy's girl she is. Re: Senior cat food - is it worth while?

I'd actually not tried feeding raw egg ....... but if I had a cat that would only take it raw in milk, then, personally, I think I might try it with mostly yolk and just some of the white, and perhaps less often? So often, with older cats and especially ones with renal issues and fussy appetites, yo...

Oh gosh, bless you for your concern. What area are you in? It's difficult, as you don't want to fall out with your neighbours, but equally you don't want the cat to suffer. Does the cat look ill or underweight at all?

Re: My cat will not stop meowing

This is one of the few problems I don't seem to have had, but I know that several people on here have had similar issues. The advice does always seem to be to ignore it, I'm afraid - if you get up and react, in any way, you are teaching him that his meowing will be rewarded by your attention. He is,...

Re: So sad - my cousin died last week, leaving 2 cats behind

It is such a tough situation, for everybody involved, but I'm glad that things do seem to be getting sorted out. You're right about splitting up cats that are not truly bonded - sometimes it does turn out to be the best option. Having just taken on an elderly cat who's owner had passed away, your fa...

Re: Senior cat food - is it worth while?

If you can get him to eat eggs in any form they are very good for cats with renal issues - a high quality protein that is easily digestible, and the egg white also serves to soak up phosphorus in the same way that binders do.

I was confused about what was wrong with the Purina One too, as it seemed to have worked. In my view 'absolute rubbish' is mainly wheat cereals .... which it doesn't have.

Re: Kitty Diarrhoea - Worried

My old Minnie gradually became more and more intolerant of certain foods as she got older. Cereals, fish and dairy were big no-nos. I had the same thing with her a couple of times - she'd be fine on a certain food and the suddenly she'd get the runs again. The cat food companies do seem to tweak the...

Most of mine are ex-strays, but mine all seem to be pigs that will eat absolutely anything. I feed a wide variety and never the same thing twice in a row, so there will usually be som...
