Re: Problems logging on?

Indeed ..... but nothing to do with the forum! ;)

Most recently it was that I'd sworn off forums until I'd done my tax return! :D

Re: Kitty playing favourites

Some cats can play favourites, but on the whole it's much more likely to be just what she's used to and what she feels more comfortable with. On the whole, men tend to be bigger, louder and with deeper voices than women and some cats do find that harder to cope with. He needs to 'woo' her! :D

Foster Cats - update

Having not been around for a couple of months, I've just updated Buzz's thread about finding his forever home and thought I might as well do a general update too. After his false start, where his first 'new home' decided he wasn't settling and brought him back after about 24 hours (!!!) Buzz went ba...

Re: Incoming ....... Buzz

I've not been on here recently, I was busy, then I was away over Christmas, then things were still busy and I kept thinking I'd wait until I had a bit of time so I could catch up when I came back on here ....... which of course never happened! But Buzz has finally found his forever home, so I though...

Sadly poor old Buzz is still waiting for his perfect home - someone did come forward but the home wasn't ideal. All paws still crossed for him :)

Re: Do all younger cats play?

My Daz arrived as a terrified trapped stray tom cat, aged about 5. It took him ages to gain confidence and I didn't see him play at all for several years ..... until he suddenly got a taste for chasing poor old Grumpy Nellie! Even then, the only play I saw was him chasing the other cats, and it took...

Re: Cat behaviour

I'm so sorry to hear what happened to your boy, but your vet is right in that it's better for him to be quiet whilst he heals so, hard as it is to see him like this, it does mean he should heal well. Poor boy has been through a lot, it's not surprising that he's subdued. Give him a gentle fuss from ...

Re: 'tis the season of the year!

Slugs - bah!! :x Every summer I get slugs in the outdoor pen, especially round the food bowl. This year I removed at least three a night from Buzz's bowls, including the ones I found doing a leisurely backstroke in his water bowl, which I started to call the 'slug spa' - huge great big things which ...

Re: Can't shake this guilty feeling

I'm so sorry to hear you've been through such a tough year, but I agree with Ruth. Your boy sounds as though he had had enough, and all you did was allow him to slip away with some dignity rather than go on, suffering and in pain, for a few more days. It's the kindest and most loving thing you could...

Re: Cat who is extremely reclusive.

Having taken on several older and/or traumatised cats I agree with the others - just give her time and let her come round when she's ready. All of mine have, including the one that was so scared and depressed that he just huddled and trembled, not even raising his head when I came near him. Good on ...

Re: Training to use a cat flap

Not sure if this will be of any help ..... but here goes ..... The outdoor pen that I use for foster cats has a little heated house with a cat flap entrance. Most of the cats I foster for the rescue tend to be the ex-strays that have been living outdoors, so often I've no idea if they know how to us...

Like pretty much all ABs, took about 2-3 days to start seeing a difference and it's important to follow the whole course.

I've been known to chase bully cats out of the garden too. Once I ran down the side of the garden, growling and hissing "*** off you 'orrible little mutt" ....... only to hear my (very polite) neighbour from the street side of the fence "Erm ....... hello?".  I'm so...

Re: Oucha - Endoscopy cost?

One of the reasons I'm so very fond of my vet is that, more than once, when faced with the possibility of doing expensive tests (especially on elderly cats and knowing we're always skint and also that we foster several cats for the rescue) he's talked through the likely outcomes and possible treatme...

I agree with the others, though it could also be that she's just a naturally more timid cat and will take longer to 'get her bearings' in a new environment.

Re: diabetes and kidney disease!

Modern thinking seems to be that it's the quality of protein that's important for cats with renal issues, rather than just the amount. Tanya's website is tough going, but a mine of useful information, especially on foods:

I don't know Metrobactin but I looked it up and it seems to be primarily Metronidazole, which is a very common antibiotic. Several of my cats have had it over the years with success and no issues.

Re: Spaying

As Mark has said, the rescue often speys ferals and lets them straight back out, so I'm sure Ria will be fine. As to her coat, it took Buzz's coat about 5 months to grow back after I cut off his dreadlocks when he arrived ....... and you could still tell where the new hair was then so I'm guessing i...
