Re: Cat folks: Let's talk litter boxes.
A really good dust-free clumping litter, and no lid. The lid keeps the smells in so that when you lift it you get all the stinky dust hit you in the face all at once! It's not just unpleasant smells, there is ammonia in cat urine and that will be stronger if they are a bit dehydrated. As for your ag...

Re: Older Cat 15 years, lossing alot of weight quickly.
Tricky one, the three most obvious possibilities should have showed up in a decent set of bloods. Does Thomas have any tender spots where he flinches if you touch? Does he have any dandruff, especially at the tail end of his back? Is he taking particular care getting down from things (chairs etc) in...

Re: Traumatised Cat
Think you're right to keep an eye on them, that doesn't look as friendly as it could. More of a truce than peace. Oscar's position is actually quite a dominant challenging one, and Lucy is near the radiator but off the end of it. Oscar's belly turned slightly upwards isn't relaxed, more like I know ...

Re: No flea treatment works
There is one product that is not available in the UK and it's seriously nasty but it does work, it's a flea and tick collar called Vetkem Breakaway. My old vet who was American and had connections used to get hold of it for our cat. I've checked and you can still get them. Every other product just s...

Re: Cat will starve but will not eat cat food
A really cheeky idea but might be worth a shot. Some prescription cat foods eg renal diet have additives that encourage them to eat. You don't want to shell out for large amounts of these but maybe you might be able to get samples from somewhere, vets, manufacturers etc? That might get him started o...

Re: Grooming Advice
I don't want to cause alarm but dandruff on the back end can be a sign of physical or psychological distress. As a precaution I would have a vet take a little look. My long-hair doesn't like those area but never has and has got better about it over time, but I would definitely be suspicious if he go...

Re: Kidney disease and diet
I lost my soul-mate cat to renal failure in the days when options were extremely limited and now have another in borderline CKD, both diagnosed early. The first had another 8 years with us despite limited options. Basically we could have Hills k/d dry or Whiskas tinned, and she refused Whiskas. So d...

Re: Diet advice
You may well find that your cat is less desperate to eat once the hyperthyroidism is sorted out - Pippin still has a good appetite, but is no longer voracious. Thanks I have thought about cooking in the past but specific health issues would mean it would only be for one and I'm scared to. She isn't...

Re: Traumatised Cat
What's the situation now with Lucy?
Hate to say this but just reading this it sounds a lot like something happened between the two of them.

Diet advice
Newbie here hi everyone! Quite a specific question. I have an 11 year old female indoor cat rescued 6 years ago. She has always tended to pile on the ounces. 2 years ago we put her on Hills Metabolic and she got down to a nice weight. Last November she was diagnosed hyperthyroid on a routine blood s...
