Re: Pippin's experiences with hyperthyroidism
So the treatment has been successful - Pip is looking better every day, and slowly building up a little more muscle, which is helping with the arthritis. This part of your post is the best one! :D :D :D It's wonderful to read such things, isn't it? ;) A big kiss to Pippin and Mouse and all other ca...

Re: Elderly cat constantly yowling
My 14 year old female cat Meg used to be very quiet but is now very vocal and spends a lot of time yowling pretty loudly - basically if she isn't eating or sleeping she's yowling and I have to admit it sometimes drives me up the wall, especially if she decides to wake up at 3.00am! Could she be jus...

If the visitor cat is someone's, could you just wear a collar on him with a message where you ask to be called by its owners?

Re: Help please - hyperthyroid cat, vidalta and now early stage renal failure
Hi @fairy100, Yes, you can never win with the therapy against HT, and the meds can give more issues. My cat Pallina, was treated with I-131 August last year, when she was 16 years and 3 months old, in Belgium, because over here in Italy there are no I-131 facilities. She was diagnosed a year before,...

Re: Is this fur balls?
Asthma can give very a tough cough, with the cat almost gasping and choking.
Furballs should come out, sooner or later.
I'd suggest you to have your cat's heart checked. Some heart diseases or failures give cough.

Re: Help please - hyperthyroid cat, vidalta and now early stage renal failure
I'm sorry that you and your cat are going through this situation. I'm sure you know that hyperthyroidism cannot be controlled long term. You're adjusting the dosage of Vidalta, but you will never win. The (benign) cancer in her thyroid will keep growing and you can't increase the meds dose forever. ...

Re: Pippin's experiences with hyperthyroidism
Did the vet tell you to have him checked after 6 weeks, or did they give you a different schedule? I was asked for a check Pallina at 30 days, 90 days and 180 days. At the last check, when everything was fine, the vet at the facility (Pallina is being checked at my clinic, the facility is in Belgium...

If a cat can be led on a leash, like I did with my Lola, you can do exercise everyday, by walking a longer stretch of sidewalk everyday.

Re: How Often Do You Wash Litter Trays?
http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_litter_litter_boxes/litter_tray_cat_toilet/98035 I tip the tray to keep the litter towards the back, which also has the merit of revealing the clumps, and keeping the worst of the digging at the back of the tray Interesting! But I soon thought about my Rainbow...

Re: How Often Do You Wash Litter Trays?
I started to use Cat’s Best OKO. It’s not cheap but I was very surprised how long a small amount lasted! but the downside is it doesn’t mask any odour very well at all and trails more, so I’m back on a search. I used to use the same litter, then I switched to Cat's Best Sensitive (formerly known as...

Re: Finally had Kala spayed yesterday, we'll see how she recovers now
Female cats who return from the surgery show different signs during the recovery. Some are quite alert and active a few hours later. Some are crazy as soon as they come back home, do things that look impossible, then sleep for 24h in a row. Usually they shouldn't eat in the first hours after the sur...

Re: Pippin's experiences with hyperthyroidism
Poor Pippin, I didn't imagine how hard the HT hit on him. You say he's very thin and weak on his back legs and hips, hopefully some exercise will help him to gain some strength and muscles. I like the way you are counting the hours  To me it was more a matter of days rather than hours, and two ...

Re: How Often Do You Wash Litter Trays?
I use Cat's Best Sensitive Natural clumping litter. It is made from chipped wood, has a pleasant smell of wood and clumps rather well. I scoop the litter two-three times a day and remove every clump or solid waste. A pack of litter is enough for two refills. When the second refill is close to a low ...

I need to correct my previous post.
The supplements are CondroStress 3.0 and Alevica (not Alecia). I typed from my phone and the auto correction did the rest. I wonder when this feature starts working fine on phones and tablets

Re: Meowing
I agree. Closed doors are a real issue with some cats. Many years ago my cat used to meow at night, when the door was closed and the lights were off. So I would get up, play a few minutes with her, then go to bed again. It would happen 2-5 times per night. Until this bad habit died off on its own. P...

How long have you had him? What does his day look like? Do you make him play before going to bed? Does he sleep with you? Do you leave some food out at night?

The vet used a geiger counter to demonstrate how close you needed to be before the radiation level registered as above background - in Pip's case about 30cm or less. The half life for this isotope is around 8 days - it can actually be very dangerous if absorbed by the body, especially for children,...

It's a matter of how many good days he has and how many bad days he has.
It'll come a time when the bad days will be more and more. When no more bright days will show up, then it is time... this is my opinion.
