Re: Cat won't come in the house because of new kitten

maybe let the kitten out into the yard under your supervision, and the others kept in, just to see what happens? feeding them both outside might help

Re: Cat won't come in the house because of new kitten

time is on your side, as you won't have to worry about the weather at this time of year, assuming Rosie has somewhere to shelter from rain this situation would be so much worse in winter Mollycat makes a good point about Rosie perhaps picking up on your vibes, as if she is not coming into the house,...

Re: Cat won't come in the house because of new kitten

this is so sad, and difficult to know the best way forward without knowing why Rosie is so upset has anything changed for her other than the kitten being in the house? is there anything or any place special to her she now feels is no longer hers? was she with you when any of the other cats came in, ...

cat food detective wanted

A feral tom I have been feeding for around 7 years nearly lost his life 10 days ago, when I tried to trap him to take him to the vet for probable euthanasia - I failed miserably but now I am so glad I did, because I have hit on a cure for him, but I don't know why For several months he had been stru...

Re: I need advise regarding my older cat and his future please.

that last bit of advice was what I did when I had to take a cat for a long journey - and I would add that two top loading carriers make it very much easier to do a safe transfer, as not only can the cat simply be lifted upwards from one and plonked down in the other, but there is much less chance of...

Re: I need advise regarding my older cat and his future please.

I agree - I got my Penny from a rescue when she was 11, and I was told she was used to going outside yet two years later she has ventured out into my 120sq ft enclosed garden only a dozen times, and is really not interested in the great outdoors at all, despite being happy to use a cat flap so your ...

Re: Trouble Socializing Senior Cat After Several Months

It's a big help that your younger cat ignores her, and doesn't seem to see her as any kind of threat I have been in this situation, although my senior was the resident cat, coping with a new younger male, who took no notice of her - they lived together in a small house for 9 years, and she never sto...

if she's stopping you sleeping when you allow her into the bedroom, you have nothing to lose, surely, by shutting her out, preferably in a room not adjoining your bedroom I can quite believe she will create merry hell at first, but as long as you never respond she will give up eventually - overnight...

Re: Decision to risk anesthesia

probably irrelevant, but a feral cat I have been feeding for 6+ years had been struggling to eat, and regularly clawed violently at his mouth as if something was stuck, even with paste foods like Gourmet Gold, often drawing blood my only attempt to trap him to get him to the vet was a disaster, so a...

Re: 2 new kittens from different litters fighting

engaging them together in play is your best bet, in my experience - a wand type toy or just a long piece of string will do

it works as a distraction, of course, but also teaches them to realise how much fun they can have playing together

Re: For those who feed their cats Felix, has anyone noticed that their cats have stopped eating it?

my outdoor feral prefers Tesco's own pouches more than anything else, especially the gravy ones I don't think his teeth are in good shape, and he can't cope at all with the solid bits of meat in the more expensive foods, but the reconstituted lumps in the basic food are softer for him he has one mea...

I too live alone and don't have much life outside the home We are all different, and I can only say what has worked for me when I have found myself alone after a cat has died - I go to the rescue and offer a home to the cat most in need of one, not as a means of comfort for me, but simply because I ...

have you any reason to think he wouldn't use the tray if he was desperate? my 13 year old girl only pees twice in 24 hours, and poos around every 36 hours, so there may be nothing to worry about

the important thing though is to make sure he has access to a tray 24/7 if he needs it

Re: Hyperthyroidism behaviour - is this normal?

it sounds to me as if you haven't yet got the dosage of the felimazole quite right yet - 2.5 in two doses is quite a low dose, and it is right to start low, but it may be it needs increasing a bit I would say hang on in there for a bit longer, as she may well settle - hormonal imbalances can cause a...

Re: Aggression getting worse- need help ASAP

it is very unusual for a cat to show a lot of aggression towards his owner, especially in a one on one situation for months at a time are you sure his attacks are aggression, and not him trying to engage you in some interaction because he's bored - do you play with him much? If he is clinging on to ...

I insured an 11 year old rescue cat with Tescos 2 years ago - premiums are currently £30.12 a month which isn't bad for a now 13 year old, though I have never had to claim so far, which I expect makes a difference this is for their top of the range Premium cover, which gives a maximum of £4000 vet f...

if she is to go outside, you might want to consider how comfortable you'd be calling her name out loud in earshot of the neighbours :)

I'd certainly recommend putting a chain on the front door, so you can open it just a crack if someone rings - if you then need to open it you can move her away before doing so - good security anyway for you too to check out callers if yours is a terrace house, then there is more of a problem when yo...
