Re: poorly kitten

Poor little soul - at that age it doesn't sound good and she needs to be seen quickly if you haven't already taken her. If you check out the PDSA they are supposed to help but it might be that as you've taken the mother in they will deem her to now be your cat as I found out a few weeks ago. Once yo...

Re: Thryoid problem and teeth problem in our 21 year old cat

My first cat Tigga was diagnosed with an over active thyroid many years ago on the same day I was diagnosed with an under active one  She was given Neomercozel ( no idea how to spell that) - no doubt the medication has changed over the years as this must be over 20 years ago. It caused her to h...

Re: Taking on a frightened cat..

Oh gosh the poor things - they must have have been through a terrible ordeal and it will take them a long time to give their trust to you - please don't give up on them. When we took Daphne on we did exactly the same thing and kept her in the conservatory with water, food, a tray and blankets. I wou...

Re: Help please - cat with cage phobia

Hi I have had exactly the same situation with Daphne who was almost feral when she arrived in our lives 3 years ago having lived in my son's garden for several months. She desperately needed spaying so the only thing they could do was to contact the PDSA who managed to catch her with a loop and pole...

Thank heavens my son emigrated to NZ - they don't have anything like that there although their cats love to bring lizards in

Re: Can anyone help me with my cats sickness

Oh so pleased she seems to be picking up - it sounds like something she's ingested maybe which has infected her and affected her kidney function - hopefully the drip will clear it out of her system. Its so frightening seeing them deteriorate and feel so helpless!

Re: Ultimate cat toy suggestions?

'Mousey'! He came in a Christmas stocking the first year Daphne was here and she fell in love with him - he now has a totally bald bum and she brings him downstairs crying morning and night and plays on the stairs or in the bath (empty) chasing him about. We did get another one the next Christmas ex...

Re: Peaches hurt

Oh gosh poor Peaches - what a shock for you but thank goodness you found her and she's doing ok. Hopefully she might now be more wary of going far from home. The description of her wanting to go out reminds me of my Daphne who was also partly feral. She hides behind the door and growls at it as it o...

Re: Operation night time lockdown is a failure

Hi I've read this thread with interest as I have had cats for over 30 years and been through all the traumas of trying to keep them in when they obviously don't want to be confined. We got our first cat shortly after moving to a new area and our dog had been run over and killed on a main road behind...

Re: Food Advice

Just wanted to second what everyone else has said about the wonderful chance you have given Rufus - regardless off his eventual outcome (which I hope is a long and happy life) you have given him such an amazing chance and been very brave taking on such a challenge. I just think that you need to give...

Re: New neighbours and possible problems

Still monitoring these dogs which are still barking all day. I think the couple are going out to work and leaving them in the garden with access to their utility room. This morning one of the larger dogs was jumping up at the fence and I could see it flexing back and forth. I've read about a 'stop b...

Re: Litter tray issues

I have 3 cats and at the moment 6 trays! Alfie goes outside but will use a tray when he has no choice. Daphne will not go outside at all and will go through phases of not using a tray preferring the carpet in corners :( hence putting in trays in these areas. Max then uses all these trays thus puttin...

Pleased to hear things are calming down a bit - sometimes it just takes time to get back to normal - sometimes it doesn't happen unfortunately and they end up just keeping out of each others way as two of mine do.

Re: food for an old cat

When my cat Harry was very ill with kidney failure (he passed away 3 years ago) it became very difficult to try and get him to eat - he wouldn't look at the special diet food. I found that a bit of minced chicken or white fish just done in the microwave in water or milky water helped for a while or ...

Re: New neighbours and possible problems

Thanks - I've had a look at the cat proofing fencing and will investigate further - it might be an option at the other end of the garden too where the dog which used to live behind us demolished some wall with it's constant jumping up and down. I like dogs but can't help thinking four in a small gar...

Re: Roughly how much do you think it costs to 'keep' a cat .

At least £80-£100 a month for food, litter, 'sweeties' for 3 and the 1-2 strays we feed. That doesn't include the vet visits which topped £230 last month or their injections. We are also going on holiday soon and for the first time putting them in the cattery - another £165. We don't have insurance ...

Thanks for your replies - the situation actually got worse after I posted the original message as I then spotted another dog an hour later and believe it or not yet another a bit later on - 4 dogs it seems! :o The noise was quite bad all morning but they then went quiet so I assumed the owners let t...

New neighbours and possible problems

Hi - hoping someone has some words of wisdom to offer :-) We've lived in this house 28 years now and always had cats - we currently have 3. The neighbour on one side (a cat lover) has recently moved and it seems our new neighbours have 2 dogs. They have been barking non stop for the last 2 hours so ...

Re: cat agression after cats son dissapeared and returned

Hello Jay What an awful situation - you would have thought it would be Charlie who may have the problems having been out. Has he been neutered? I'm just wondering if he's now sexually active at 10 months and been with a female on heat during his escapade? This might account for Pheeby's aggressive b...

Re: Help-I am an anxious mess about this...

I really wouldn't worry - the fact that you've had all these cats in your house over the time you were there just shows how clever cats are and will visit different houses on a regular basis for food, warmth and a sleep! There was a program on tv last year where they'd attached video cameras to seve...
