Re: BARNEYS ILL WITH BLADDER PROBLE YET AGAIN.....SO MISERAB

Very sorry that poor Barney seems to have had more bladder problems, Julie. Only just seen this thread ... I'm not around this forum too much these days. Did you try him on Zyklene after all? Not saying it will help - but anything is worth a try and expect poor Barney gets stressed when he can't pee...

No probs Crewella .. I was really just trying to reassure Julie that Blackie had some extenuating circumstances that might have caused his cystitis.

Re: Bald patch on cat

Go to the vet of you can. Refuse covenia because you can. There is no reason in this world to administer tht particular drug to a house cat. Can you tell me why? Blackie has had it twice since we've been looking after him - with, as far as I know, no ill effects. But if you know of them, I'd be gra...

Hi Jan, glad to hear Blackie's still doing OK. I remember his episodes. xx You probably know all this, Julie, but to explain (just in case and to stop you worrying), both Blackie and Daz (and Midnight, I believe) have an additional complication in that not only do they get cystitis, but they are al...

Julie ... I am so sorry to read all this ... cannot express how much I understand what you're going through (as am sure many others do here). We went through all this worry/panic/tears for a few months last year after Blackie had 2 bouts of cystitis in as many months. If I come down in the morning a...

Re: Bald patch on cat

This looks just like the patch Blackie had on his neck recently. Fortunately, I spotted the thinning before he'd managed to scratch his skin to make it sore. As Blackie had a bout of miliary dermatitis from just one flea bite last summer, I took him straight to the vets. She couldn't find any fleas ...

Re: Tommy update - advice please!

If Tommy would eat cereal free food then that would be a good thing. Mark will be able to advise on which brands are cereal free. I'm not sure if Felix are or not. I think Felix pouches in jelly (not gravy) are cereal free, and (thanks to Mark) I used to feed the senior version as it's lower in pho...

 75% Scary indeed. (I recall phoning my mother's GP in a panic because I saw on her medical history that she was in Stage 3 of CKD and the GP telling me it was nothing to worry about ... quite normal for her age (at that time 85). She's now in a care home and still going strong at 89....

Re: Molly hates flea day!

Glad things went well for Molly's flea day. We do a 2-man job but Blackie is such a wriggler that my OH finds it impossible to hold him still while I put the Advocate on him. As soon as the liquid hits his skin he fights like mad to get away. However, we brought him back from the vets the other day ...

Blackie has just turned 12. I know this is a common disease of older cats ... and of course I want to do all I can to make sure he is healthy for as long as possible. The vet who did the dental recommended he be put on the RC wet renal diet due to its low phosphorous level. I'll look round the site ...

Re: Not sure if another bout of FIC or not ...

Hello Crewella ... very remiss of me not to come back and at least thank you for responding. Its been quite a worrying time over the past week or so as I had no real idea of what to expect after Blackie's dental. In the end, I was worrying needlessly about his toileting habits ... I upped his Cystop...

Not sure if another bout of FIC or not ...

Blackie had to have a canine tooth removed 4 days ago and had the usual reactions of coughing and gurgling - all of which the vet assured me was normal. His appetite never seemed to change and neither did his toileting habits. However, in the last 24 hours, I've noticed that he is peeing less ... tw...

Re: UTI?

You could try adding some warm water to his wet food, just able a tablespoon is usually enough to keep things moving through. If it happens again speak to your vet about putting him on a maintenance dose of something like Cystophan, you can tweak the dose upwards if you think it might be coming on....

Glad I came across this topic because in the last couple of weeks, I've been asking my OH if he thinks Blackie (aged 12) is getting thinner.
