Re: Advice Needed For Potential Future Mum!

Please get Georgie neutered, advise your neighbour to get his little boy neutered and take your mum to the local sanctuary for a pet, it's best for everyone, and there are too many homeless cats needing homes. If you are bothered about starving Georgie for an opp, you can ask the vet to keep her the...

Re: Agria Pet Insurance - Age Amnesty for April only

I told my neighbour about this, if you do a quote online it will say they are too old, we had to ring up. For £6.5k cover for her 15 yo, it was £21, but with 20% to pay per claim. ECI are 15% tho

Re: Cat gave birth now now incontinent....

I'm sorry to hear this, but I think you did the right thing, you had to think of her quality of life and keeping her going for the kittens wouldn't have been fair. Sadly sometimes in rescue we can't save them, all we can do is show them love and let them go peacefully. RIP little one

Re: Could I foster?

It sounds like you have the space and time to foster, the main thing people find hard with fostering is to let them go. There probably aren't many times when hand rears are necessary but plenty of others need help. If the rescue you helped this time don't regularly need fosterers, there will be othe...

Re: Fred, the saddest cat I've ever met

Helen, if it's the smell of his wee rather than spraying (you'd find patches if he was spraying) then there are a couple of litters that can help mask the smell, certain clay clumping, and anti bacterial. I'd be very surprised if he was spraying but it would show he was interested in his surroundings

Re: Roxy 22 months has renal failure.

Did they mention her Creatnine levels at all? It's odd for only Urea to be high, but high Urea with normal creatnine isn't always an indicator of kidney issues - things like infection can cause high urea, as can being dehydrated (which is normal after vomiting). Did they check her white blood cell l...

I've only heard of Acute Renal Failure in cats that young, did the vet say what kind and what they thought might be the cause? Do you know what her kidney values are?

I used to use a specific pet sunscreen, but it was really hard to get hold of, and it was in a col gate style pump that was awkward when using. I now use some kids factor 50. Buster hates it though

Re: Cat with upset tum issues - but has seen vet

To be honest, I wouldn't worry about moving him on to senior at his age, the average lifespan is 14, so he's middle aged rather than senior. I don't always use senior food on 10+ cats

Re: How to not burn out rescuing cats (mostly me venting)

Catherine raises a good point - a lot of independents are independent for a reason, so I don't know how you could 'police' imposing rules on them - and who would be responsible for that. For the registered charities you may be able to do something through the Charities Commission, but a lot of indep...

To be honest, I'm not sure how feasible it is if you don't want to be tied to a particular charity, you need to be linked to somewhere to be needed. I'd personally start with one and gain some experience before approaching others

Re: How to not burn out rescuing cats (mostly me venting)

I'm confused by your comments about centralisation, what you have said on your last post is exactly why we do a home visit, we look at each home on its own merits and whether the cat they are interested in is suitable, sometimes we suggest a different cat, or with kittens, suggest adopting 2. I don'...

I agree with you about people of a certain age Crewella, it has been my experience too. I also agree with you about centralisation of homing, I would find it demoralising and certain areas do have different requirements - we don't have that many people asking for indoor only cats, although I suspect...

If there is no smell, it is unlikely to be undescended testicles, I've had two with that and both times you knew about it, and they were much younger than Woody. Let's hope his age doesn't make homing him harder

Re: How to not burn out rescuing cats (mostly me venting)

I think part of the reason charities do not push that much is lack of resource /time. A lot of volunteers work as well, which limits what we can do, and there is no point doing school visits etc if it leaves no one caring for the animals.
