Re: automatic food dispenser

I've tried a fair few food dispensers in my time, and have found the manual ones easier to set and more reliable than the digital ones I have the Catmate ones, but these are reduced at the moment so might be worth considering https://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/petsafe-automatic-2-meal-dog-and-c...

Re: Found a month old stray kitten and brought it home, now what?

probably not helpful to you, Joe, but my 13 year old Penny pees around every 20 hours, and poops around every 36 hours, and as an only cat she has nothing to spook her

Re: Advice for a long car journey

personally I wouldn't worry about a litter tray for a five hour journey, as most cats would find using one in a moving vehicle difficult, especially if stressed lots of spare bedding which can be swapped if necessary would be useful though I travelled from Surrey to West Wales with a sedated cat in ...

Re: Sox - our saggy beautiful old cat-puss, has cancer

the last two cats I had to say goodbye to were euthanized at home, which made it so much less traumatic for them and me if your vet is willing and you can afford it, knowing how you will manage that final farewell can help in the time leading up to it - you can prepare a resting place for him, and g...

Re: How to Handle Peeing Outside of Box?

I'm with Joe - asking an entire tom cat to live happily indoors is a recipe for disaster, and I'm surprised peeing outside his litter box is your only problem I'm sure you care for him, and want to do your best for him, but your posts do rather give the impression the object is to get Kitty to confo...

Re: New Kitten Shows Aggression

I suspect the large crate is the problem, as if you are approaching her while she is in it she has nowhere to go, and the hissing and spitting and claws is what most cats do when they feel backed into a corner Can you let her out of the cage and let her find her own safe places? Preferably a high up...

Re: Single cat spraying in new house

first thing I thought of when reading your first post - did the previous owners of the house have a cat or cats, which he can smell? is he marking because their smell makes him feel he needs to establish his ownership of the house?

thorough cleaning and time may help if this is the cause

I think Spaska is a fine name for a cat - Barbara Woodhouse, Jackson Galaxy's very very different forerunner :D - used to say cats respond best to names with an 's' sound, so Spaska is doubly good

Re: Found a month old stray kitten and brought it home, now what?

what a cute little scrap

it seems goat's milk is better than cow's milk for kittens, but not as good as special formula milk - and if he has a dodgy tum goat's milk could make it worse

can you shop on Amazon? there's quite a few kitten milks on there

Re: Reintroducing old friends

another consideration as that there will be no way of returning the second cat if it doesn't work out, as woud be the case with a cat coming from a UK based rescue my own experience, FWIW, after a lifetime of cat ownership, is that female cats tend to enjoy sole possession of the home and the people...

Re: All most four years on ,I am still grieving

Issie, your post reminded me of a work colleague whose son was killed by a train when he was only 21 her grief became so much a part of her that she had no wish to move on, because to her it meant she was abandoning him - focusing on anything which made her forget her loss for a few hours just led t...

Re: Spayed cat problem

a bit of googling suggests it is possible for a vet to miss an ovary, becausethey are very small, and that will cause a cat to be in heat, but it can also just be a sign her hormones are still settling down I think you are going to have to keep her inside for a bit to see = though she can't now get ...

testing for EPI is by no means routine - you can buy pancreatic enzymes on line, and it could well be worth giving them a try, as I don't think they can do any harm and could well be the answer

I too have changed my mind about the indoor/outdoor debate - I have an enclosed area 20 feet by 30 feet outside my back door, accessed by a cat flap, and which is partially paved with tubs and climbing plants - it gets loads of sun, and has been much appreicated over the past 20 years by several cat...
