Re: Strorm Katie
Escaped the storm here, but we had a very wet weekend. My recent adoptees were initially indoor cats, but for the last couple of months they've had access to my (enclosed) garden. Since the time when they could go out, I hardly ever have to clean the indoor litter trays - they'd always prefer to go ...

Re: Bookends!
A friend once had an elderly cat who used to sleep UNDER a stove like that! The bottom part of the stove gets about as hot as a radiator, but not take-the-skin-off hot. My previous cat used to sit quite close, and I didn't have the fireguard then. But she never used to jump up on to anythin...

Re: Do cats eat Hamsters?
I agree with alanc; small rodents are natural cat food.
Incidentally, I believe some kinds of hamsters are solitary animals. Anyone wanting to keep a group would need to make sure they had the right kind.

Re: Feline urination problems on the increase?
I wonder if the increasing popularity of dry food is a factor? A lot of cats don't drink much. Most wet foods appear to be about 80% water, so maybe they don't need to drink. If put on dry food, is the cat going to drink enough water to keep the innards working normally?

A common strategy is to let her out just before her usual meal time, so she comes back for food.

Re: Moving to London soon with my cat and looking for cat loving housemates
Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious, but if you are moving from outside the UK, have you checked the regulations about importing cats? There was a time when an animal would have had to go into quarantine for 6 months. Nowadays, with the right documents, pet passport, vaccination certificates etc, ...

I like the look of the Kalven Deluxe Gym, as I can't see my two sharing beds on any of them - they like their personal space! Mary, did you find it was stable enough, as it's tall but has a small base. Why did you replace it in the end? Yes, stable. I had it tucked in the angle between a wall and t...

Something I saw on TV: if you really must use an Elizabethan collar, a transparent one is less distressing than an opaque one. But the comfycollar looks better, if it will do the job.

We are toying with the idea of a cat tree for Ingrid, but wonder if it will be ignored in favour of the paper bag  My cats didn't seem very interested in their cat tree at first, and I resorted to putting treats on all the levels to encourage them to explore it. But a few weeks later, they e...

Re: Training an Elderly Cat to Use a Litter Tray
Has anybody tried using sand in a litter tray? My cats use wood pellet litter in their indoor trays. But now that they have an outside run, I made them an outdoor loo, basically a sand pit with a sheltering box over the top, and now they use that in preference to the indoor litter trays (unless it's...

Re: Adopted a 2 year old cat
It's very disconcerting to an adult cat to be moved to a new place, and she'll need a few days to realise that this is now her home. Since you're getting purrs from her, you could maybe show her a toy - trail a piece of string along the floor, where she can see it. Or offer her a tit-bit of tasty fo...

You've only had her a day. She'll need a bit more time to settle down. I'd say the early signs that you report are hopeful rather than otherwise.

Re: Cat with small strange patches on skin
It looks a little like ringworm, although I haven't seen that in cat before, and it's hard to see how she could have picked it up, unless from a lapse in hygiene at the vets or groomers. Ringworm, despite the name, is not a worm, it's a contagious fungus infection which causes hair to fall out in sm...

Mrs Kane, the original poster mentions Virginia, in a way which suggests that that is where she lives, so international travel doesn't come into it. But apart from that, I agree with you that such a long-distance move would be unfair on both the cat being moved, and the resident cat.

Is your little fatty cat like my Gracie? She empties her own bowl AND everyone else's You could fix that by using microchip feeders, which cover the bowl except when a specific cat is eating. It's not my area, so I can't help with identification. But thank you for posting all this information. If they owner sees it, obviously they'll be very sad to know that their cat is dead. But if it was me, I'd rather know for sure than be left wondering.

This is probably because you are advertising your kittens at well below the market value. Someone wants to get a kitten at your price so that they can sell it on at a vast profit. If you can recognise the style of these callers as soon as you answer the phone, probably the best thing to do in future...

In your place, I would drive him away. I'd stop feeding him and try to scare him off any time he showed up. I would put the welfare of my own cats ahead of the stray. I know that's harsh, and I know you'd love to sort things out for the visitor, but you've tried, and the only result is to make life ...

Thanks, Lilith! Yes, it was a design error, due to neither me nor my fencing contractor having experience of keeping cats contained. :? Thanks for the link, meriad. That cat house looks very nice, and not too expensive. I think they may like to sit on top of my log stores, but both of those have sloping roofs, and a level surface would be more comfortable. I'm aware that netting can be a wildlife hazard, but mine is strung quite tau...
