Very worried- co-ordination

Hi all, Apologises in advance - a lot of questions. I'm pretty worried. Friday night Twitch started having balance problems, falling off during her usual route of chairs and desks as she tried to step on thin air. She paced around around rooms on the floor. We had to wait until Tues for an appointme...

What's she got against electricity?

My mother-in-law's cat (young adult female) used to spray all over her husband's electric riser/recliner chair. The thing got horribly rusted and even damaged the carpet. She's got rid of the chair and got a brand new carpet and for a year now her cat has not sprayed......but she's started again. Th...

Re: Super picky eater loosing weight - allergy to blame?

Thanks all! I now have plenty of options. I'm particularly hopeful about the Bisolvon, I will see if my vet will give me a prescription. Getting a second opinion is awkward - last time I tried that I ended up having to completely move vets! The new vets wouldn't say anything without the notes from t...

Again, excellent names :)
I hope I've been of help. I'm sure things will eventually pick up, I'm glad you're daughter isn't heading off anywhere for a while (otherwise she'd need to sneak him into her digs at uni!).

Re: jealous cat

Firstly, a most excellent selection of names for your cats :) Something that apparently works really well is positive association, i.e. feed them there favourite food on either side of a closed door. They start to associate the other cats with good things. Maybe start with Dozer as they were once pa...

Super picky eater loosing weight - allergy to blame?

Twitch is causing me much frustration. She has become extremely picky in what she eats. I keep putting the cat food up a notch and it gets her eating - huzzah! Then after so many days back to her fussy self again. She's not skinny as she is eating a bit, but she is slowly loosing weight. She's also ...

Inventive advice needed

One of my cats is peeing on the stairs :( I've tried all sorts of things, but essentially he's old and our local unneutered tom is causing his distress, and consequently causing his unpleasant activities. My concern is that the stuff is getting soaked into the carpet and we don't notice until we've ...

Urrghh and hope you defeat the little suckers! I've cleaned out many a mucky ear in my time and the one guideline I've gone by is - blunt index fingertip, wrapped in a kleenex, nothing smaller than this. Sorry glam females you will have to tear off the nail but better safe than sorry :) I...

I knocked a really nasty infestation of earmites with one dose of spot-on Advocate for cats widely available - just one example http://www.vetuk.co.uk/pet-meds-prescription-only-advocate-for-cats-c-21_702 I use Effipro spot on for flea prevention......I've just looked and it says nothing about earm...

Ear mite war - tactical suggestions requested

Both our cats have ear mites – drat! The vet has given us CleanAural and we’ve used it three times now and removed quite a large amount of unpleasantness from their poor ears. I’m not sure if we’ve got the rotters yet. Basically we’re worried about poking down too deep and causing damage. Where poss...

Ear mites?

We're suspicious Backy has ear mites! His ears are always grubby, even though my other half regularly cleans them. Our other cat, Twitch, doesn't have this problem. Does anyone know of something I can use that doesn't need a prescription? Backy is 14, but he doesn't have any regular medicine or heal...

Re: Let me sing you the song of my people.....at 5am

Vocalisation can be a sign of hyperthyroidism, which is common I older cats and is treatable. It shouldn't be ignored as it puts a strain the other organs. This can be determined by a blood test, and well worth doing. Lily had it for the last four years or so of her life, and was fine on pills (adm...

Re: Elderly lady cat meows very loudly at night!

You might want to put a second tray where she went (don't move the regular one). See if she goes elsewhere......she may have a problem with the litter itself. If she's suffering from feline dementia or a stress disorder then the crunch of the litter may disturb her, try using that paper litter stuff...

Another 'my cat from hell' trick is to feed them at the same time on opposite sides of a door. They'll have positive associations with each other's smell and treats.

I've just noticed Hollysmum's post about howling. It sounds like I have the same problem. I'd still be interested in how many people have the same problem though.

Re: Elderly lady cat meows very loudly at night!

Regarding the litter tray problems - As I knew we'd end up socialising in the same room as the cat litter when we first moved into our house, I did a little DIY. I made a spacious box out of wood, nothing fancy but with generous head room for a cat and good ground space for the litter tray. My inten...

Let me sing you the song of my people.....at 5am

Just a quick question, more of a poll I suppose.... For the last few months Twitch (also 14) has been yowling ...

NOW FOUND Lost cat TS5 - Black & White female

I've had a lost cat note through the door, I thought it was worth putting the details up on the forum. A cat called 'Sootie' went missing on 8/10/15. She lives near to the Probation Hostel in the TS5 area. She's a small neutered female. Mostly black with white paws and chest. If you find her please ...

Ahh that's the one - thanks Crewella! :D Hi Exlibris, I know your dilemma - I'm not a great one for running to the vet, but the times I've taken a cat and said, 'well, I hope I'm not making a fuss about nothing, no well I DO hope I'm making a fuss about nothing!' Re: Oh for a reliable website! - cat weight question

Thanks Lilith, that will be really helpful! I intend to take her to the vets if the problem persists. Part of the reason I haven't so far is she is still eating, plus last time I took her to the vets with sometime I was told she was so agile and confident that she was healthy. So I'm in that awful s...

Re: Lola suddenly out all night?!

Maybe put a note on her collar asking that if anyone is letting her slum it at their house - adding you don't mind but would just like to reassured she's staying somewhere. Is it possible she has a male companion? I've heard that sometimes neutering doesn't stop the hormones kicking in. You could al...

Oh for a reliable website! - cat weight question

Hi guys, I'm concerned about my fuss-pot cat Twitch. She's being very fussy about eating. I would be concerned that it was a medical thing, but it could just be her being super annoying. Basically both my cats are okay with Felix Senior (Twitch is 14) and they are treated occasionally with Sheba or ...

A Christmas visitor

About 6 months ago we had a very beautiful black cat come around claiming to be hungry and homeless (btw - very well fed if this were to be true). We were taken in and all ready to adopt until we did a last chance “Is this your cat?” leaflet drop. We got a phone call from the irate owner who calmed ...

Twitch also thinks she's a lion! I came home tonight and let them out while I made a cuppa - whoosh! I don't have a cat flap so I can easily con...

Last night Twitch came upstairs to the the computer room and she had a tail massively fluffed up like a bottle brush. My first thought was "oh no, that bloomin' black cat has got in again". So I rushed downstairs to catch the little so-and-so stealing food but found no sign. Twitch just st...

Thanks for looking. It's not coming up, but if it's all black then it's not the correct cat. I've discovered that Floyd's owner has put him on the site, ref ALP204552. I hope he has some luck. :( Fingers crossed.

Re: New Kitten - Two Resident Cats

Kittens are very energetic - older cats want some peace and quite. Make sure your two have a number of comfy spots where they can easily retreat too but the kitten can't get to. Also, be wary, I tried to introduce a new cat a while ago (I thought he was homeless, but he just turned out to be a con a...
