Re: Mimi diagnosed with Anemia

As with in humans, I'm sure this could be a sign of a number of things, not always really serious, non-curable conditions either. I was reading about diabetes in cats earlier (my cat has a weight issue) and anaemia was a symptom of this which would also tie in with the high glucose levels, so as boo...

Re: Persistent Vomiting...here we go again

She eats both dry and wet food...she needs to have wet food in order to get the steroid down...I crush it into the food. It really has been an uphill struggle to stabilise the sickness, now we just have to get over the next hurdle which will be a long road. Hopefully we can keep her well whilst we t...

Re: Persistent Vomiting...here we go again

Well I'm pleased to say that Daisy has been OK since going back on the 1mg of steroids per day. Although it is not ideal that she is on steroids, it is the only option - the vet thinks she has IBD and that this was causing the vomiting. The vet also seems happy that the dose is very low. I took her ...

Re: Claws and carpet!

There is a new product on the market by the manufacturers of Feliway, which can be sprayed on furniture etc to stop scratching - I'm going to purchase some as my cat Daisy has basically ruined two carpets, 1 (almost 2!) sofas!: https://www.monsterpetsupplies.co.uk/cat/cat-training/feliway-feliscratc...

Persistent Vomiting...here we go again

Hi All, Some of you may remember me posting about my cat Daisy a few months ago and her issue with persistent vomiting. Well long story short - Daisy was put on steroids by the vet - originally as a life prolonger as the vet could find nothing else to explain her symptoms so cancer was the only opti...

Hi Didi, Sorry to hear about Bilbo. I am a neurotic worrier too and so I know how you will be feeling, but regarding the not eating, this is probably likely due to the stress, change in routine etc. Also, as like us, if we are feeling under the weather, our appetite usually disappears. Try and take ...

Random Scratching

Hi All, Since we have had her really, Daisy sometimes randomly scratches and claws both me and my boyfriend. We read up on this and a website said that they can sometimes get overstimulated and basically fed up of being stroked etc. However, some occasions (like tonight), she will willingly get on o...

Re: Please help! Does my cat have a skin condition or just stress? Is losing fur : (

Hi Daphne, You can buy a Hills prescription diet food for skin support - My cat has this food as it also helps with digestive problems. It is Hill Prescription d/d - it can be brought from the vets but is much cheaper online. It might be worth a try in conjunction with some of the other ideas people...

Re: Recovery from Status Epilepticus + treatment

Hi David, Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear about Leon. I don't know anything about epilepsy in cats but it must be a scary experience. Regarding not using his litter tray however, this is possibly likely to be caused by the upheaval of the vets and also by the medication, anaesthetic etc that ...

Re: A Daisy Update

Hi All, Daisy usually eats all her food put down for her, so I don't usually have to worry about her getting the crushed steroid, but tonight she has left a lot of food,so I am worried that she won't have got all of the steroid, if any. Plus I'm worried that she is feeling poorly and the steroids ar...

Re: A Daisy Update

Hi All, Thanks for the messages. I am so worried about reducing the dose, just in case she has a bad reaction to coming off them quickly. As we would never be able to give her a tablet normally, we have to crush it and put it in her food - We have a special pill cutter from the vets, so the tablets ...

Hi All, I still regularly view the forum on here, but it's been a while since I have updated you on Daisy. Re: allergies and bumps on skin

Hi There, As Kay suggests, a specialist food might help. My cat Daisy is fed solely on Hills d/d food for a suspected food allergy. However, this same food is also formulated for skin allergies/problems too. This might be worth a shot. It is available in dry and wet form and is cheapest online - I u...

A Street cat named Bob

Hi All, I have been supported fantastically by those on the Health forum over the last few months and I wanted to share my thoughts on the book/film Street Cat Bob and see what everyone else thinks of them. I read the book a couple of weeks ago and I was blown away by the effect it had on me. It is ...

Re: Oucha - Endoscopy cost?

Hi There, My cat Daisy underwent a few tests a couple of months ago - One was to be an endoscopy at the local vets and although she didn't end up having the procedure, it would have cost maybe £250 (plus anaesthetic costs). There was also talk of referring her and this was going to be into the thous...

Re: Persistent Vomiting...Support & Advice needed!

Hi Franlow, Thanks for your reply. Daisy has been on Hills Prescription d/d for nearly 3 months now, as the vet thought it could be food intolerance. However, this lasted 4 weeks before she was regularly sick again. I just looked it up on the internet and this food doesn't contain wheat. After more ...

Hi All, Here's another Daisy update.... Daisy has been on 1/4 cerenia tablet for 4 days (5 tonight) and is OK. She has been taking the steroids for about 12 days with no obvious ill effects. I spoke to the vet today as she asked me to call to catch up on how Daisy is....she was pleased that she has ...

There is another Hills prescription diet - d/d for allergies/sensitive stomach which contains venison and pea. Daisy has only this food. ...

That's great news...as you said, good news seems few and far between.

How on earth do you get a urine sample from a cat?? I have struggle enough with getting tablets down  The vet took a sample from Daisy (I'm assuming when she was put under anaesthetic!)

Hi LTurtle, I would be surprised if the vet didn't test for thyroid problems, but definitely check as I had the same situation recently! My cat, Daisy, has had two ultrasounds recently (abdominal) and they cost £87.00 + VAT each. However, bear in mind that they are may anaesthetise for the procedure...

Re: Persistent Vomiting...Support & Advice needed!

Hi Lilith, The vet assures me that both drugs can be taken together. Daisy has been taking the cerenia now for 2.5 weeks. I think the theory is that the steroids are an attempt to actively reduce the cause of the vomiting (the inflammation) and in turn the vomiting should decrease or stop. I asked w...

Re: Persistent Vomiting...Support & Advice needed!

Hello All, Thanks for your lovely posts. Daisy is OK at the moment. I spoke to the vets earlier and the current plan is to keep her on the same dose of cerenia for 5-10 days and hopefully wean her off gradually. I have collected the steroids too, but I am going to start these at the weekend I think....
