Re: Really need help soon!
Can you put her into the carrier for your friend to take her to the vet? If that is not possible I would ring around the cat charities in your area and see if anyone can help transport her, and/or the local Stroke/elderly care/church/other support networks and see if there is someone able to sit wit...

Re: 3 year old male moggie cat with lump in chest area
It is extremely unlikely to be a mammary tumour - possible, of course, but they are not common even in female cats in comparison the dogs and other species. From what you say it is far more likely to be the result of an injury - it may even be an abscess forming if the skin has healed but there is i...

Re: Kitten destroying curtains
Have you tried giving her something even better to climb? Is she allowed outside? Does she have high places she can get to without climbing the curtains? Clipping claws is not really advisable in young cats who can keep them in good order themselves - I would concentrate on giving her better outlets...

Re: need new kitten advice
Firstly food. I always reckon young kittens self regulate, eating more when they are in a growth spurt and less in between times, so unless she is very definitely overweight or your vet has specific reasons for concern I would feed her according to appetite, and four times a day. Even adult cats pre...

Re: Problems with rescue
Is the rescue a registered charity, with trustees? Or some form of board of control? If so I would appeal to them, along the lines of "a possible breakdown in communication" and "very bonded with <cat's name> who has settled well" and "saddened not to feel trusted after so m...

Re: Single CKD kitty Mom - how to work and care for her
Welcome! SQ fluids are rarely used in the UK where most forum members live, but I don't think timing them is crucial to within a few hours so perhaps you could plan on giving them when you get home from work and can monitor her. Free feeding or a timed feeder will take care of meals - ice blocks hel...

Is she perhaps overeating? As Amerififer says, smaller meals may be the answer, or perhaps put her dry food in a play ball or puzzle toy to slow eating down.

Re: First time owner kitten advice
Is it possible that the crying and attempts to escape are because she is already calling? Does she roll on the floor asking for attention? How long has she been noisy? Did trying to get out of the door start at around the same time? All these are behaviours typical of a cat in oestrus, and if that i...

Re: Inflammatory Bowel disease
I suspect the key to Gypsy's improvement may be in the single, novel protein. IBS and IBD are associated with food intolerances and commercial foods tend to contain the same few protein sources along with a wide range of other potential triggers (carrageenan, for example). If a cat's symptoms are du...

Re: 6 month old tabby kitten acting strange
I would consider any major behavioural change along with runny poos reason for a vet check, unless you can identify some other obvious, non-alarming, cause. Has something happened to shock or upset him? Any major changes in routine? Any possible toxins introduced into his environment (pesticides, we...

Re: Weird bloody patch of exposed skin with missing fur????
Does he go out? The sudden appearance, and the grazing on the other ear, look as though the skin has been torn, perhaps in a fight or other accident. Is it healing or getting worse? If it is healing and looking clean and healthy I would bathe with boiled, slightly salted water and watch carefully - ...

Was the antibiotic metronidazole? It acts to soothe the bowel as well as to reduce bacteria levels - Poppy, my toy poodle, has probable SIBO as a result of chronic liver failure and I have found a small dose every 2.5 days just keeps her digestion in reasonable balance. It doesn't work for all anima...

Re: Poorly cat with ibd
I don't know of a good site for cats, unfortunately - someone else may. The basic principle for a healthy cat is to include some bone or other calcium source to keep the phosphorus/calcium balance correct, use rather fatty meat, and always include a little offal, especially a very small amount of li...

Re: Poorly cat with ibd
You may find home cooking easier than finding a single protein commercial food. Most of the big raw food suppliers have suitable meats - I use Durham Animal Feeds, and they have complete duck, goose and game amongst others. You will need to consider whether other supplements are needed, of course.

Re: Advice for FLUTD/Idiopathic Cystitis Kitties
I think it is time for a urine sample, culture and targeted antibiotics if they prove necessary. I have not, thank heavens, had to deal with FLUTD in a male cat but with my female who was prone to bouts it always took ABs to clear the underlying infection. There are loads of home "remedies"...

Could it be that feeding has become uncomfortable for him, or perhaps he is feeling nauseous? A lifted paw is often a sign of mild protest, as you know, especially if he is trying to push your hand away.

Re: Help my cat went from black to white
Photos would certainly help, but is the hair growing in pure white from the roots or turning grey white, more of a film all over? If it is the latter it could be something like dandruff, mites or mange, all quite a common reaction to a time of poor nutrition and straying. I would get her checked by ...

Re: Cat constantly waking me up at 6am
What time do you go to bed? And what happens when she does get you up? Games? Cuddles? Food? Ignoring her? If you google "microchip cat feeder" you will find lots of options. Best buy will depend where you live and what specification you want (eg room for an ice pack if you are feeding wet food). They have also been discussed on this forum if you use the Search option in Quick Links.

Microchip cat feeders, one each. Sorted - although you may need to get both cats microchipped if you have not already done so.

Re: Cats peeing everywhere
This is a cat forum - almost inevitably responses will put the cats first! The peeing problem is very probably caused by stress, and I suspect that you are now in a vicious spiral - cats stressed by dog start peeing inappropriately, peeing stresses you, cats react to your stress, and round it goes. ...

Re: Help! Poorly cat advice needed
If the steroid was given as a long acting injection then metacam is an absolute no-no until it has completely worn off, so that is probably why the vet has ruled it out for the time being. Definitely worth considering if he is still uncomfortable when the steroid has cleared his system, though.
