Gel caps
Hi, can anyone tell me what size I should order for my cat? He’s having to start taking Clopidogrel which I’m told is nasty tasting, bitter and the vet advised crushing the pills into gel caps. Looking at Amazon I’ve no idea what size though. Has anyone used these? Thanks in advance.

Re: Cat noisy since it's companion died
We have a cat in the same position too. His brother was put to sleep last August and he still misses him. We have four other cats but the little brothers were a pair and Harry yowls and waits for Alfie to come and play with a particular toy they both loved. He too has become very vocal like yours an...

Re: Is VetIQ urinary care paste any good?
Hi Janey, I’ve tried mixing it with other food but he still won’t touch it, apart from Royal Canin I don’t know what else to try that would help reduce the crystals.
Kay, I have read some of the reviews on amazon but I also like to ask on the forum for opinions too.

Is VetIQ urinary care paste any good?
My cat Beaker’s urine test results came back today and nothing has changed, still off the scale concentrated and struvite crystals still as bad. As he won’t eat the the diet wet food, hills c/d, Ive been adding extra water to wet food, syringing water into his mouth, adding chicken broth to the wate...

Re: Cat won’t eat special diet.
Luckily Beaker likes chicken and the broth, even as cold jelly out of the fridge. Strangely the others won’t touch it. I tried him with some diluted in water and he drank quite a bit but today he wouldn’t touch it. I’ll have a look at Thrive too, can’t get it in the pet shops which is a pain, will h...

Re: Cat won’t eat special diet.
Thanks Ruth, it’s true about the food and the manky water! There is a large dog bowl of water outside which I leave for a few days until it looks iffy ie had a large dead spider in it yesterday :x He ate a couple of pouches on the first day and that was it. He likes the dry version so I sprinkled a ...

Re: Cat won’t eat special diet.
Hi, he loves the bone broth I make with chicken bones and he licks it out of the food and leaves the rest unfortunately. I’ll try diluting it and see if he’ll drink it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Cat won’t eat special diet.
My 11 year old cat Beaker has struvite crystals and very concentrated urine. He has been having trouble using the litter tray and prefers to vertical spray in the garden. The vet advised that he should drink plenty of water and eat wet food specially for dissolving the crystals, but Beaker rarely dr...

Which flea spray?
I haven’t needed one before but we need to find a household spray after finding one cat flea jumping about on our bedding :o in spite of the cats being treated with stronghold plus. Indorex is being discontinued, replaced by Permaguard apparently. I saw Johnson’s spray in the pet shop. So which one ...

Re: Harry losing weight.
Harry’s scan didn’t show anything abnormal including lymph nodes. At the moment it’s being treated as ibd. The Vet suspects its lymphoma but while he’s happy at the moment we’re not putting him through more tests for now unless he deteriates. Has your cat been seen by a vet in case it’s something th...

Hi Mikihiro, Harry has started taking a low dose of steroids this week and will start vit b12 next week. He’s eating reasonably well, a bit better than before. He doesn’t have trouble swallowing.

Re: Harry losing weight.
Hi, that hasn’t been mentioned. I’ll talk to the vet about it. The cardio vet thought there might be a link early on with Alfie but was ruled out later on. Harry had a heart scan in June which showed the thickening had lessened and was doing well. He had an abdominal scan last month which looked nor...

Harry losing weight.
We lost 10 yo Alfie last month to suspected lymphoma. He had been diagnosed with severe IBD originally but all treatment failed to help sadly. Now Harry, his littermate, has also been losing weight over the last three to four months,His appetite is up and down and his stools are normal sometimes and...

Re: Alfie
Thank you for your kind comments. It’s been hard watching him fading and the last few days were the worst. The time was right to let him go. His little brother has been looking for him and hiding under the bed so not sure how to help him. I suppose he will adjust in time.

Re: Update on Alfie with colitis and heart issue.
Sadly tonight we had to let Alfie go :( He had been deteriorating since I last posted and on Tuesday morning I found him hiding away in our wardrobe. The vet found he had a high temperature, severe anaemia and enlarged kidneys. They kept him in and gave him fluids, abs and anti inflammatory meds apa...

Re: Update on Alfie with colitis and heart issue.
‘Little lilac- pointed bagpipes’! made me laugh  I didn’t know that about atenolol. He hasn’t been taking them for long so maybe he’s affected by them. This morning he has eaten half a pouch of wainwrights! It’s been weeks since he ate that much, then had a nibble at Harry’s food. Followed by a...

Re: Update on Alfie with colitis and heart issue.
Alfie has just done something unusual for him- a normal looking poo on the floor, then tried to bury it. He was near litter trays so not sure if he couldn’t make it in time? The only other time was when he was passing mucous frequently back in March/April. OH said he looked disorientated.

Re: Update on Alfie with colitis and heart issue.
He likes gourmet solitaire chicken but only licks the sauce. He doesn’t usually like pate but could try a tin and see if he eats it as his appetite is all over the place. Up until a few days ago he loved lickelix, I was hiding his atenolol in it twice a day, but now he won’t touch it :( At the momen...

Hi, he is having normal cat food as his appetite is poor, trying different ones. Grain free wet and a little dry jwb. He has a couple of licks and nibbles then goes and lays down looking miserable.

Re: Update on Alfie with colitis and heart issue.
The specialist vet was against using steroids unless Alfie didn’t improve but the local vet was all for them and was certain they would help the inflammation and make Alfie feel better. But it hasn’t made a difference so he’ll be weaned off them. The appetite stimulants helped in the beginning a few...

Re: Update on Alfie with colitis and heart issue.
Alfie has been taking steroids for just over a week and he seems to have become worse again. His appetite is almost non existant again which I think is unusual- steroids are meant to increase appetite? and more lethargic. I gave him an appetite stimulant on Sunday to try and get him eating again. He...

Thank you for your best wishes for Alfie. He’s enjoying the sunshine on a slightly cooler day today. Not his usual self yet, not eating much still. Don’t know how long the steroids take to have an affect.

Re: Update on Alfie with colitis and heart issue.
Alfie is now taking steroids. He had seemed to be feeling a bit better after he came home from the vet hospital and was eating more. But over the past week he has been spending his days mostly on a pile of blankets in the kitchen when he wasn’t mooching around slowly. His appetite dropped again desp...

Re: Update on Alfie with colitis and heart issue.
Yes so would I, even our usual vet was surprised. It seems the specialist vet wants to wait a couple of weeks before resorting to steroids. I’m to report back next week on Alfie’s progress, then he will decide whether to prescribe them or not.

Re: Update on Alfie with colitis and heart issue.
Hi Kay, Alfie quite likes the JWB lamb but I’m wondering about more unusual meat like venison etc.. although while his appetite is not good I give him what he will eat, like the JWB or wainwrights, cooked fish which he loves.
