Re: My old cat went into a coma in her sleep

My little Twitch did the same. She was twitching a lot, but I think that was just neurons firing, she wasn't conscious. I take great comfort that she died as I held her, so if she was aware in any way I comforted her. I think your Oodyboo knew nothing of what happened, it's really good that you were...

Re: Close siblings and flea treatment

Did they drool a lot afterwards? Possibly even vomit? This would suggest they may have ingested a lot before it properly soaked in. I've done a quick google and it might be they've not licked it, but reacted to one of the ingredients of that brand of treatment. Or as a wild guess, possibly things ha...

Re: Rescue kittens might be from abusive home???

Running away in playfulness and bouncing back again is pretty kittenish along with stalking human feet and running away when they get near because they are so much bigger than they were when we started stalking! Alas it is different to playful stalking. I really hope we're not too late to properly ...

Re: Rescue kittens might be from abusive home???

I wouldn't say abusive, but they do sound like they weren't well socialized at a young age. I thought they had been with a fosterer, which had caused the medical mix ups? Even being born in a house doesn't mean well socialized kittens unfortunately, some of my tamest have been living outside and I'...

Rescue kittens might be from abusive home???

Hi all, We have the weirdest pair of kittens. When we first brought them home from the shelter they did a bit of exploring, then just started playing chase for ages. Considering how upset Whisper was travelling (her breathing rate was disturbingly quick) we thought it would be ages before they'd set...

Re: Mental Retardation??

I assume you've taken her to the vet - what have they said so far? It could be that she has something wrong with her eyesight or hearing, or both? But you'd still expect her to explore. Does she respond to loud bangs? Those are clearly the spots she feels safe in - is there anything there that diffe...

Whisper is our lovely female tabby kitten and looks a lot like my previous cat Twitch. We had Twitch 16 years, so sometimes Whisper can be a painful reminder as they are extremely similar. However, as time goes on, you can see they she is NOT Twitch in personality, she is her own cat. However, I hav...

Re: I am I being flea-ced?

We treated an entire 3 bedroom house with a single can of Indorex after the last resident cat died, went from seeing them hopping about to zero in one treatment. Never used bombs (though they sound like fun!) so can't compare. It was Johnson's veterinary dual action room fogger. Basically set it of...

Re: I am I being flea-ced?

As I said on the other thread, you need to find out what the vets gave them to make sure you aren't giving them too much. If it has been long enough, effipro should be fine. And yes, as others have said, you need to treat the house or you won't stop the cycle Sorry booktigger, I didn't know when yo...

Re: I am I being flea-ced?

Fleas do evolve resistance to some products though so new protocols are always going to appear and the old best stuff won't work so well any more. Do they actually have fleas or is this precautionary? And you can get any of the products a vet will sell you at a third to half price from internet pla...

Cats love to mess with your mind

Our new kittens, Winston and Whisper, have been difficult to win over. They'll come over for a stroke, but then flee before you if you stand up. Quite depressing. But we're making very very slow progress. Tonight though Winston decided he was avoiding me again, previously I'd managed to pick him up ...

I am I being flea-ced?

Sorry, terrible, terrible pun. I had been let to believe that you had to be really careful with flea treatment and kittens. The vet agreed to supply the stuff if we gave accurate weight amounts for Winston and Whisper. We have a baby scale so we able to give an accurate reading of 2.3kg and 2.8kg. T...

At their agei its weight and size age only really an issue if they're very young but if you use something like inforex on the house you will find you don't even need to treat the kitten's vat all just may take a little longer we have ferals who can't be touched but come indoors never have a problem...

Re: Cat Death (FLUTD) - my fault?

So sorry to hear of your loss. :( Cats do have an amazing capacity to not show symptoms, which is why things are frequently not spotted by the best of vets, let alone owners with no medical training. My last two cats lived to a good age, but when they started to exhibit symptoms of what they eventua...

Re: Flea treatment for kittens

Spraying would probably be worse as the noise sounds like hissing. Either way, I think the chances of them hanging around long enough to properly done are zero. I don't know what their foster handler was doing but neither kitten is keen on being picked up (but heartily appreciative of strokes). I tr...

Flea treatment for kittens

Goodness, I'm spamming the forum at the moment - thanks for putting up with me everyone! Seems like you forget a lot about kittens after 18 years since the last pair. I'm looking for flea treatment for kittens. I thought it would be simple - foolish me - but apparently you need to weigh them regular...

Re: Vet cones after a neutering - how vital?

Decision has been made - no cone unless absolutely necessary, because the poor wee thing had a fair traumatising adventure today. My mother-in-law and my partner were taking both the cats to the vets and the car for its MOT. On going to transfer cats from one car to another it was discovered that on...

Re: Vet cones after a neutering - how vital?

All of the cats I have had that were neutered none wore a cone. There is no harm using them, it's an extra precaution to stop them from going near the site. I believe female cats when spayed are normally given dissolvable stitches, wherever this has any baring on the cone, I couldn't say. I guess i...

Re: the perfect litter tray

I'm not quite sure if this exists....I would also question if your cat would be happy with such a restrictive shape. Have you considered doing a bit of DIY? I don't mean create a masterpiece, just make a wooden box out of some thin wood with one side missing, make the box spacious, not just cat litt...

Re: Medicine victory!

On a serious note, if your two are on medication for a long period and will take it in food then investing in a couple of microchip feeds might be worthwhile. Good idea - hopefully it won't be needed atm as it's for 3 days after neutering surgery, but they've got the check up on Friday, so I might ...

When you have 2 cats, both who need medication, both need different amounts, both who are greedy so-and-sos - do you do? I discovered the answer this morning! My chunky male cat Idris wolfs down his food then aims for my tiny elegant females food, who's a slow eater. So, I put their food in paper bo...

Oh, and one more thing.....I asked the RSPCA person when they were last defleaed. The rather snotty reply was when they had their last vaccination.....I looked on the forms and it was July! You're telling me that no-one trod a flea within an inch of these cats for the 2 months they weren't protected...

Vet cones after a neutering - how vital?

Hi all, I was told my female tabby would have a cone on after her neutering op. I found this confusing because 18 years ago little Twitch didn't. To make matters worse I collected her this afternoon and the vet said she didn't put it on because she wasn't fiddling with her wound, but to put it on if...

Re: Panic!!! Not neutered!!!

Ouch! :o Call me a smartass, but didn't it occur to the RSPCA or the fosterer that a neutered 5 month old female kitten would have an op scar and a shaved patch? It took a couple of months, as I remember, for my shorthairs' fur to grow back in. It would indeed be harder to tell with a black fluffy ...

And Mollycat is right - if I'd had two girls I could have ended up with 2 litters the first time I let them out!

Re: Panic!!! Not neutered!!!

Amusingly I can see how it was missed - the male kitten is black and fuzzy, thus his sack is also black and fuzzy - it's hard enough taking a normal photo of him, let alone spotting his, ahem, size down there. RSCPA and fosterer had complete faith in one another - I, however, am used to the universe...

Hmmmm... I think I would separate them as much as possible if she is showing signs of calling, just in case. You may have an early blooming boy, and it is only for a few days. If she is calling it may be safer to postpone spaying her until she has finished - it would be safer in the early stages of...
