Re: Cat occasionally stumbling

Maybe, never though about pond liner.

Could you also try a grow bag tray? I know they are large, but are shallow and plastic.

Re: Cat occasionally stumbling

That's good she's doing well.

I've just replaced one of their trays with a grow bag tray (low sided and large). Let's see if they prefer it.

Re: Cat stands in litter box but pees outside (!)

Anyone know where you can buy large, low-sided trays? There don't seem to be any on the internet.

Re: Cat occasionally stumbling

She has finished her first dose of prednisolone at high doses, and the neurologist is reasonably happy with her progress (I showed him the 3 videos starting with 'LATEST' on https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYCFcTNx5MCpJQCUWOxXGhQ), which were taken last saturday. I have noticed she's been scooting ...

Did the vet say what sort of growth it is? You can get a referral to a specialist vet to confirm, or ask a vet to do an ultrasound.

Re: Cat occasionally stumbling

Thanks for the link. I've read other articles but not that one. Her potassium is 2.9 (was 3 three months ago), blood pressure is normal and sodium is a bit high. The email on friday was as so: "As you know the toxoplasma and coronavirus testing have returned as unremarkable. As such the spinal ...

Re: Cat occasionally stumbling

He doesn't think it's spinal lymphoma now (although can't rule it out), although a biopsy is the only way of telling for sure, and he can't take one from her spinal cord without paralysing her. However, he called me yesterday saying the final test results are in, and he believes it is consistent wit...

Re: Cat occasionally stumbling

Toxiplasmosis tests negative, and spinal tap (lumbar puncture) results 'consistent with blood contamination' and 'no neoplastic cells seen'.

She's upping the prednisolone now for 2 weeks, and seems fine so far.

My cat's blood work came out with the same platelet issue. The vet clarified that their machine always seems to say that, whether they have a platelet issue or not. Something to do with the size of platelets.

Re: Cat occasionally stumbling

They have the biopsy results in now (two - one from her liver, one from her spleen). No signs of lymphoma in them, although that doesn't mean it isn't elsewhere.

Re: Cat occasionally stumbling

Ok, I have her home now. He clarified: The 'multiple tumours' he mentioned on the phone were two very small white spots on the spinal cord, shown up on the MRI. It is not possible to tell what they are. He suspects the likelihood is, in this order: 1) Non-infectious meningomyelitis (eminently treata...

Re: Cat occasionally stumbling

Apparently it's likely to be either lymphoma (don't know which type yet), meningomyelitis or infectious meningomyelitis (possibly FIP). Samples will rule out or confirm the latter in a week, but the treatment is apparently the same. It's strange because none of her symptoms are consistent with any o...

The MRI showed up irregularities on her spine, which he believes are either multiple tumours or an automimmune disease. They are still doing more tests.

Re: Cat occasionally stumbling

Her electrolyte tests show potassium now at 2.9 mmol (was 3 three months ago, normal range 3.4-5). He phoned me and suggested it could be symptomatic of Conn's syndrome (Primary Hyperaldosteronism), although her blood pressure is fine, so will do an ultrasound of her adrenal glands whilst she's unde...

Re: Cat occasionally stumbling

Thanks. She's there now. The neuro exam showed some minor ataxia in the legs (as we knew). The neurologist said I can either take her home and monitor her, or have an MRI, which would show the cause (unless it was an infection or stroke). I opted for the MRI, which may be done today (if they have ti...

Re: Pancreatitis - very worried

Two of my cats have had pancreatitis. One was relatively mild, and may have occurred as a result of a fall. The other had to be hospitalised for three days, but she was fine after that (she had an inflamed liver too which was crushing her bile duct, and causing jaundice). It's very frightening, but ...

Re: Cat occasionally stumbling

That sounds very complex. Have never heard of Devils Claw as a supplement for cats. Coco doesn't seem to be any different from a few months ago, stumbling once a day or so, but still eating normally, and being social with the other cats. She can jump up or down a few feet, but has a stiffer gait tha...

Re: Cat occasionally stumbling

Thanks for your detailed posting, Mollycat.

The potassium level is still low despite a supplement. I suspect he'll suggest an MRI next.

So your cat has similar symptoms, when you say she has a ' hind limb thing'? If so, how long has it been going on for?

Re: Cat occasionally stumbling

Yes, on electrolytes, Sodium is high (156 out of a normal range of 146-157), potassium was 3.0 (normal range 3.4-5.6), sodium:Potassium ratio 52 (normal range 26-42), chloride 112 (normal range 111-129). MPV (whatever that is) is low (6.5, normal range 8-12) in general bloods, but everything else no...

Re: Cat occasionally stumbling

I don't know if it has truly ruled out a tumour, as they say only an MRI scan can tell for sure, but no obvious ones visible.

Her potassium level is the only electrolyte that is still below par.

X-ray today didn't find anything (spending a fortune in the process).

Have metacam to try for the next week or so.

She's no different to the videos I posted above, occasional stumble, stiff walking.

Re: Cat occasionally stumbling

I'm happy to have an X-Ray, but she was due one 2 weeks ago, but he cancelled it, so there will be a 4 week gap now between the originally scheduled one and the new appointment. He said the X-ray would be to look at her spine (presumably for tumours?). He doesn't think it's a brain tumour, as the sy...

Re: Cat occasionally stumbling

The vet didn't even look at her videos on my phone, just booked her in for an X-ray in 2 week's time.

That will be her 5th appointment in one month.

He just said it looks like ataxia, and is probably neurological.

Re: 3 y.o. cat diagnosed with pancreatitis, likely chronic - any advice/stories?

I haven't an experience with chronic pancreatitis, but two of my cats have had acute pancreatitis, one at age 5 in 2016 and one aged 11 or so, in 2019. One of my sister's cats had it too when young. They are all fine now (pancreatitis-wise). One had to be hospitalised for 3 days, and had jaundice an...

Re: Cat occasionally stumbling

I don't know, but the vet thought it might be the cause, as he didn't think it was worth having an X ray that day. She's going back on friday for another follow up.

I will have to video her walking again. Doesn't seem any different.
