Re: lost - Orpington, Kent

Unfortunately if he's 9-10 months and not neutered there's a good chance he's gone after a female. I do hope he comes back soon and if he does please get him done ASAP to avoid wandering and unwanted kittens. And please get him microchipped at the same time. Fingers crossed it won't be long before h...

Re: Is this normal behaviour? 1 year old cat sucks blanket

How lovely - the little paws working to get the milk coming, and apparently the fabric smells a bit like the mother's milk when sucked - or so I've read. I have a two year old cat who came to me aged 4 months. After being with us 4 months she became very bonded to me, and one night decided I was her...

Re: Fluffy needs an operation!

Oh poor Fluffy! We're all rooting for nature to take it's course tonight or tomorrow. I'm glad the operation went well, which was your main worry and it sounds something of a consolation that this is not unusual after a general anaesthetic, but I would talk to the vet about it at least and, much as ...

Oh dear - I haven't been on for a few days and just seen this about poor Henry! So sorry he's poorly and I do hope, like others have said, the overnight with special care will see him turn a corner and back to his happy little self.

We are all thinking of you and Henry - hugs and headrubs xx

Re: Holiday furries

Thanks for the tip about Cat's Whiskers - I might see if they come out as far as me - they say North London. At the moment it would be too much trouble as I have to manage 'innie outie' with Mr Socks coming in if Lara is out or upstairs (with door to upstairs shut), then going out if she comes in......

Re: Ginger tom taking over

Hi Nick - it sounds like your Ginger boy is playing a little bit of a dominance game but I guess he can only sleep in one place at a time, and if his other needs are met well and the two play together I doubt your other cat will leave. Are they both outdoor cats then? You say 'sleeping places in the...

Re: Fluffy needs an operation!

Oh Carol, poor little Fluff! Not news you wanted to hear, but positive that the vet is going to give her special attention for this op, which hopefully will not need too heavy a general anaesthetic, and if they can manage her heart condition adequately during the op she should recover quickly and we...

Re: HELP!!

Hi and welcome to Cat Chat. You do have a dilemma and I don't think there is any way you can reasonably let your cat out if you're on the first floor UNLESS you can build a cat ramp for her - or a series of platforms for safe ascent and descent - but then you'd have to incorporate something to stop ...

Re: introducing cats to new home

I would agree to keep them in for 3-4 weeks - they need to build familiarity and confidence in their new home. The worst thing would be if one got scared and bolted... It's also possible that once they've really settled in their new home and routine they might be better placed to deal with the local...

I have just read that FEVERFEW, which is an attractive daisy like plant, is good for cats (in fact can be used medicinally for cats) and puts off bees and wasps...

If this can be corroborated it would be an ideal choice for some pots in the enclosure!

Re: News of Mr Socks - for those who aren't 'Dashers'

I know he has! I'm sitting on the sofa working on the laptop, and he is snoozing on the other end, in one of Jessie's 'places' - just happy to be with me. Jessie is in her igloo, Sophie on the top of the cat tree and Lara upstairs in her doughnut ring, oblivious. I've shut the door to the lounge so ...

Re: News of Mr Socks - for those who aren't 'Dashers'

Thanks all - Kay I'm really encouraged by your story of Tosker - for the third night he has slept in his basket like a little dog - not a whisper out of him all night. I shut the door, take my girls up to bed, and in the morning he is up and over to the back door to inspect his territory. He even us...

News of Mr Socks - for those who aren't 'Dashers'

Well, we seem to have a new cat! Last weekend I bought Mr Socks a dog basket and a thick cuddly cushion, and he took to it IMMEDIATELY and after kneading the cushion, got in! We kicked him out of the house at bedtime, but he hasn't wanted to go, and paws the glass of the patio doors desperately to g...

A lovely reply, Hazel, and good advice I think. Although it seems like ages since you picked up the ashes it isn't really, and for all you know someone has got yours and would be delighted to do a swap. If you can't find the right ashes, still have a little ceremony in memory of your beloved cat - h...

What a wonderful little lad Comet is, and what beautiful pictures! Lara has little crops of white 'sensing...

Hello Julie! Well, yes it's a dilemma but it's also a very personal thing - and everyone's circumstances are different. Ah, yes, I may well have dropped myself in it - it is one thing that concerns me in the long term with Sophie, that she may well be prone to the same sort of problems. Fluffy's experience is a warning of what to look out for I think... just so glad she's feeling better - and Barney too. xx

Poor Edgar! Jay I think you've handled this in a very positive and patient way! It seems to me this unneutered boy escaped because he smelled a female in heat and will have come back smelling very different. I'm guessing too that your girl isn't spayed? If she comes in to heat you will have more little kittens ...

Dear Julz, Sorry to hear you're having trouble with your little family - I would agree with Lyn that it's likely the proximity of new cats and the territorial issues that are going on (after all your guys are the new kids on the block but they don't see it that way) are leading to some redirected ag...
